  1. Danny, I was fortunate enough to be on the LTF XXX Corps tour in my Dodge D15. Unfortunately the tour organisers had some problems with the Belgian authorities the day before the southern route start. The organisers stated that tracked vehicle permits were withdrawn/not issued by the Belgian Authorities, so the impressive array of armour on the tour had to start in Holland on an alternative route. We were lucky enough to be with the small contingent permitted to drive in Belgium from Lommel over Joes bridge to start the tour. I have linked my video of the main column waiting in holland while those of us chosen to start the tour in Belgium passed them by. It was an impressive sight, and I really hope you got to see some of these magnificent vehicles while we were on tour. https://youtu.be/--6a8rPB2KI
  2. This video on my Youtube account shows us passing half of the column ready to start the event at Lommel in Belgium https://youtu.be/--6a8rPB2KI
  3. We managed to get there. Had an awesome time with our Canadian Dodge D15. It was humbling to see some much brit and commonwealth gear in one place.
  4. Hi Dean, I had some luck getting a contact last year with the Nowegian Army to help research my 1943 WC54 ambulance. I think you might have better dialogue with them if you have the chassis number as well as the hood number. Anyway, contact details below. Good luck and let us know how you get on. 5. Hi folks, my dodge d15 has the standard raised bar above the bumper that stands in front of the radiator as with most cmp wartime vehicles. I had always assumed this bar was to protect the radiator and grill from big debris, but if that is the case, why is the bar mounted on leaf springs?

  7. Thanks for the feedback Pete. in the 2 and a half years since I posted here I have found this truck and just completed its purchase and transport to the UK. Alex, the supporting registration documents and feedback from the Belgian owner confirm your feedback about its French army history. I'll post some more photos and info soon - I am just in the throws of applying for a UK registration for it.
  8. Hi all. I've just got back from the National Archives in London where I was looking at the War Diaries from my Grandfather's RASC unit, which served in North Africa, Italy and Austria. As a Jeep owner, I know the interest in finding war service history of specific vehicles is usually a pipe dream, but I uncovered a full audit of the vehicles in this GT company. It includes WD, and Order Nos, but more importantly, in some cases the Chassis numbers. Do any of you good folks out there in MVT land know if any of these are still knocking around? Would love to hear from you. Thanks, Simon I also recovered a huge list of 10T MACK Lorry numbers from the same unit if anyone would like them for reference.

  10. Thanks Alec, could you tell me what the full name for the C+U regs are so I can look them up? Thanks
  11. Hi, I wonder if someone can help? I have a '45 Willys MB Jeep, it has serviceable brake and sidelights, but no directional indicators. I have been fixing up a pre-war Brockhouse 8 CWT trailer. This will only be used in daylight for short trips to local shows. I understand from the regs that I need a number plate which matches the Jeep and the rules about brakes, but what lighting does the trailer require (if any)? I guess I can socket up the brake and sidelights on the Jeep for a trailerboard if necessary, but do I have to have the Jeep wired up with indicators/turn signals so I can tow? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  12. Sure - some more pics... As was when I bought her last summer:- Markings uncovered during winter maintenance:-
  13. Hi all, I have been sprucing up the old girl, and on sanding down the usual areas, I found a few old (but I dont think war period) 101 AB markings. On going through these to the base paint, I have found a much darker colour OD. The bumper markings seemed to be just white caps on the ends, The bumperettes had already been sanded down to the metal at some point, but there were remnants of some odd markings - looks like a red circle with a white fill? The Hood again had been sanded down and painted over, but there was a suggestion of a brit number M45... or M43... I still have to have a crack at the windshield yet, but want to mark up as British once the repainting is done. The last picture is of a stamped number on the bumper gusset which I thought might be nice to use for the British hood number - M4239692 Can anyone offer some advice on what hood number range I should be aiming for? Numbers from the around the jeep Dash plate 428069 Bumper Gusset "jeep"Tag 428069 Frame Number 214336 I assume from previous research she's late 44 early 45.
  14. Wow Tony, thanks for the advert - the Hitch and Wheel config is exactly the same. <3 the forums for helping find out what what you've got. I think Ill progress to a bit of wood replacement and an OD coat of paint so I can use it to tow my canvas to next summers events.
  15. I picked this up last week, I havent a clue where to start. There's no data plate that I can find. David, I see your resto has progressed well, I might need some tips if you dont mind me sending you a PM... First job is to source a pintle hitch ring that will fit my MB Jeep.
  16. Hi all, I have been to look at a couple of "ww2 Willys" for sale this last month- 1 was a post war CJ with a GPW grill and lights fitted, and the other had more plastic bodywork than Joan Rivers. So still looking, and certainly not buying until my experienced advisers get back from Normandy next week. One thing I wasn't sure of was what documents I should be asking to see when looking at buying? (for use in UK). I understand recent imports need Nova? registrations. Do these things need V5s from DVLA? Is there anything else I should ask to see in terms of docs? Thanks for any advice.
  17. Thanks for the advice so far! I have just completed phase 1 of the battleplan - replace the garage roof and clear the crap out so I have a nice cosy place to store any future purchase. Found some old olive drab jerry cans at the back that I had forgotten about. I must've saved a couple of quid already with those. :yay:
  18. Thanks Simon, already bought the book - Ren shipped it and I've read it from cover to cover already, and it only fuelled my desire
  19. Hi all, I am new to the MV world, and am considering my first purchase at the moment. I have been researching where to start for a few months now - been to a few MV shows, shipped and read Ren Bernier's guide from the US etc etc. Ideally I would like to get to an authentic WW2 GPW, but I am a realist and with my extremely limited mechanical knowledge, I suspect it would be better to start with something more modern. I thinking reliability is more important than authenticity for my first MV. So I would like to know if I am better to go with a Hotchkiss M201 or M38 to start with while I build experience and networks (assuming these are likely to require less input than an old gem). It seems there are more cheaper runners available and less pitfalls with the more modern options for a clueless starter. Can anyone offer advice?
  20. Hi all, I have joined to get some advice from the people in the know. Its been my ambition to run around in a Jeep for a while now, so thought Id try out the forums to mine some advice on how to progress. Ive done lots of research and enjoyed reading the forums regarding GPWs Hotchkiss and Later than WW2 Willys. Its quite likely I will be refreshing some old threads with new questions, as I have the scary prospect of not having much mechanical experience, and am therefore unsure of how to narrow my search for the right MV for me. I can feel a lot of posts in the "I may be stupid, but..." section coming up
