Hi Guys, I'm pleased to announce that the South Midlands area of the MVT will be hosting this show again on 22 & 23 June. Whilst its not the National Show on this occasion, the MVT have kindly given us a substantial grant towards our costs. With all the positive press coverage we've had, we are planning for an even bigger turnout. Ok we won't have as many Champs as last year but I'm sure that as we will also be celebrating 65 Years of Land Rovers we should still reach around 400 military vehicles. I'm also hopeful that we will have a great display in the skies, as I spoke with the RAF Events Team today ref our application for the BBMF & was told that we are due to have the Spitfire, Hurricane & Lancaster on the Saturday & the Dakota on the Sunday! Nearly fell off my chair when told. Obviously its subject to confirmation due mid-Feb. Our Landowner Bob James has also been busy around the camp & has just built three more nissen huts to house more displays. 1st one is a new Home Front Display, 2nd for a new RAF Operations room & 3rd is yet to be decided, suggestions on a post card please as they say. (See pic below, but excuse my dodgy cut & paste for the new nissens, will hopefully take a new aerial pic later in the year) He's also moved the Pickett-Hamilton Fort to the middle of the arena to make for a more interesting battle. If you've not been before we've got a decent sized arena, the size of a football pitch with a couple of mounds of earth to drive over. As always we are very keen to include vehicles within dioramas rather than just lined up, so if you are happy to park up with an appropriate group or have any suggestion then please let me know. For more information please visit the events page on: www.ashdowncamp.webs.com Registration of Vehicles Forms for MVT members are due to be included with the next Greensheet Magazine, due later in January. Non MVT members very welcome. If you want to save money on postage you can register online at: http://www.freewebs.com/ashdowncamp/onlinevehiclereg.htm (though if entering more than one vehicle, its best to use paper based form) So I hope you can join us & do please contact me if any queries. Thanks Paul m: 0779 159 1528

show report South Midlands MVT - Winter Road Run, 29.12.12
Papav66 replied to Steve 82's topic in The meetings log and photobook
Hi Steve, Thanks for taking the time to right & post some pics. It really was hammering down when we set off & I know we would of had more vehicles had it been dry, but all the water made for a more interesting puddle hunt. I think the prize for the gutsiest has to go to your Kubel, I think the pic with your headlights submerged is great. Below are a few more pics of the ford taken the following day when the water level had dropped & just to show how long it was. cheers Paul -

South Midlands MVT - Winter Road-Run 2012
Papav66 replied to Steve 82's topic in Future events and meetings
Thanks for posting Steve, perhaps we can discuss route options at the Christmas Party on Dec 10. And visitors can have a quick peep at the three new nissen huts that have been built. Here's the new Home Front one. -
Anything to do with searching for Lions in Essex?

Hi Mark, By RAF are you referring to the crash rescue versions? Where you can walk through from the cab, if so they are extremely rare, I think there are only two or three. I do have a few pics on my K9 site. Cheers Paul

Hello Arran, It will be on the 22 & 23 June, so will be good to have you back especially as its fairly close to you. cheers Paul

Looking to buy a Kraz / russian mv
Papav66 replied to je1640's topic in Russian-Eastern block-Warsaw Pact Vehicles
Jim has sold that Kraz & bought a radio bodied Kraz. -
It will be on the 22 & 23 June. I'll post a pic of the route during the week as there are two slipways, so possibly starting from the town centre just below the weir, then cruising down river to exit by the ferry. Cheers Paul

Hello Shaun, Great if you are prepared to come all that way. You could also join in the Evesham River Festival which I think will be the 6 & 7 July, though even that was cancelled this year due to so much water. http://www.eveshamriverfestival.co.uk/index.html As for parking it is reasonably secure as Bob the landowner run's a truck business so his drivers are coming & going so there is always somebody about & gates are locked overnight, plus a security chap living in a caravan. A few people this year left their vehicles there in readiness for W&P. And if you wanted to continue camping there are facilities onsite. +pm sent.

I think people should be charged more for camping if they take an inflatable air bed, it will be pure luxury like sleeping on a waterbed!
-
Yes. I've had a few others express interest James T Mark C So I think thats about 5 so far. If you are a Stolly owner & thinking about coming to Evesham next June you would be very welcome. And you can leave your vehicle/loader onsite for a while before going off to another show like War & Peace if that helps.
-
Hello & welcome, Thanks for your email about bringing a Stolly to Evesham next year for a swim, looks like we will have a few there. Do post a pic if you can. cheers Paul
-
Thanks for helping clear up, you Champers left quite a muddy mess! pm sent

Hello Alan & welcome, Did you make it to the Champ Camp at Evesham the other week? As you are so local to our club would you be welcome to attend our meetings, next one is tomorrow night 8pm in the nissen hut. cheers Paul
-
If boomboom going then I'm definitely going. Might have to unhitch 155 to get in depending on which field Tim has got. I know some of our area members would also like to attend & have our monthly meeting on Monday so will try & get names/vehicles etc. cheers Paul

question How to age and stress paintwork
Papav66 replied to hoppy's question in I may be stupid, but......
Try dabbing on some scumble glaze with a sponge to give the look of cracked paint, but test first. Best I luck Paul -
And you almost took out the water tap as you swung round, not that we needed any more water on the ground. I was just surprised that the public kept on coming in on the Sunday, a definite surge after lunch as the sun came back out causing a few delays in the car park. And I chuckled to myself when the Champs were all in the arena with the last one towed in by a Land Rover! You would have thought another Champ owner could have collected it.

Just returned home but would like to say thank a big thank you for all those who brought their vehicles & supported the event, it was our best ever, even though the ground conditions weren't ideal. I haven't checked the vehicles numbers yet, but am sure some were put off by the forecast but many still turned up & the variety of vehicles was just fantastic. I loved the noon day guns on the Saturday with the 18pdr, the Garrison's 25pdr, Andrew Bakers CVRT & my ears are still ringing from Boomboom's Howitzer. To see the Champs set a new record of 103 in the arena was fascinating. The marquee on the Saturday night was just rocking all night long. And the camp had a great atmosphere with the Garrison with their searchlight & I know Nick Johns had many in his Cinema, so a big thank you to all. Rambo, sorry I didn't get to see you, I did walk over but you must have gone walkabout. Hoppy, thanks for your pics & comments. A few pics here for starters taken by a local photographer. http://www.rjkytephotography.co.uk/c0058/c0058.html cheers Paul
