    You are right about the R

    With the old engraving machines, depending who manufactured them there may have been a slight variation in the letters even for the same font. 

    If you have a local engraver, hopefully they have the exact font.

    F/O (144763) Derek Tom Newell Smith DFC (nav.) RAFVR - injured. 

    No information on the occupant(s) of the car.
