Seen a similar pattern made by Goodyear today, will see if they're any more about. A chap I spoke with today gets them from Belgium. In other news, I passed my Cat H test today with Terry Brooks, recommended 👍

I thought of this thread when I saw what turned out to be the barrel & cradle of a FH70 in Crouchs yard this morning.

Cracking job, factory fresh. -
Our thoughts exactly Iain, wouldn't like to think of the cost of the Oshkosh if he's asking £28.5k for the old Foden EKAs

Popped down to Dave Crouch's Kibworth yard south of Leicester this morning to collect this colourful gearbox - I wonder if it's the box out of Crouchs old Mili?. Plenty of toys in the yard, those 16r20 Mich XZL tyres seem to fetch a lot of money at the minute. Both the 8x8 MAN & Oshkosh seem to be set up for off road winching.

I'll second that, very interested to see this progress.

Thanks Scott, though I fear Richard may be correct looking at them side by side. Cheers

Thanks Richard, Iain mentioned them too, I'll contact them.

Clutch out, think I've had the wear out of it! Need to find a replacement clutch now, flywheel should go again.

Lovely motor -
Certainly is, at least I can have a good look at the clutch and hopefully never have to take it all apart ever again!

Box now out the pit, in the photo of the open topped box we've found the gear for 4/5th just spins with no drive transmitted when the selector drum slides onto it, unlike the rest of the gears. In the photo, these are the smaller gears inbetween the two larger ones on the right. Spigot shaft is to be removed next to hopefully see why this is. A spare box has been found, if required, & complete with transmission box for £600.

Thought these two were quite interesting, a lot of the footage is of Andy's CR1 near Rugby. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACAzVWFoZHA&feature=share

Afternoon all, Progress on investigating the loss of 4th & 5th gears. Box is now out as you will see, selector forks & assembly seem in good shape so far. Workshop think it's to do with the splines on the main shaft. The transmission jack is the lowest it will go in the pit but not low enough to get the box out from underneath, thoughts are to lift the front end of the truck up & slide it out so it can be palletised ready for investigation & repair. Clutch will be checked & probably replaced. 17.5 hours labour thus far. A big thanks to Iain Crosbie & co for the support. If anyone knows of a trusted gearbox repairer please let me know? Update to follow. Nick

You've reminded me I need to sort one of the temp gauges on mine, once the gears are good again 🙂 The old old girl has come up good with that splash of water -

Tank gauge on mine is certainly mechanical and works therefore all the time - seems fairly accurate unlike the dash gauge which my dad repaired the wiring to, which is over optimistic in its reading by comparison -

Just revisiting this thread, some good photos here. Links below look like the trials vehicles for sale? Fleetex had quite a few cargo variants at one point. I also saw Dave Crouch had at least two recovery vehicles some time ago. http://www.ljacksonandco.com/LJDB2014/mobile_view.php?editid1=40135 http://www.fleetex.co.uk/spec_sheet.asp?UnitID=6936 -
As some of you may have seen the truck is having 4th & 5th gear issues; more info here http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?54902-Lost-4th-amp-5th-gears&p=475519#post475519 I'll update the repair progress on this thread as where I now park the vehicle, there is a HGV garage & the owner started his days on AEC gearboxes. Hope to have more info next week. Regards, Nick
