  1. Still looking for definitive answers re MOT of our 1943 Chevy C60L Wrecker and if it now needs an MOT as it can be classed as a breakdown truck on and HGV chassis.  This would mean plating, fitting side bars and rear bumpers to modern standards etc which would totally change vehicle and render it non accurate for the period etc, also annual testing by DVSA etc.

  2. Friend posted this after a recent meeting

Copied this from mobile military museum, meeting we should keep in mind re gas cylinders

💥💥💥💥💥💥 NOTICE OF ADVICE TO ALL RE-ENACTORS 💥💥💥💥💥💥

JB WAS INVITED TO ATTEND A SEMINAR ON COUNTY EVENTS REGARDING SHOWS WHERE DEACTIVATED WEAPONS ARE CARRIED OR ARE FOR SALE.

IN ATTENDANCE WERE THE POLICE, FIRE AND HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICERS.

THE POLICE INFORMED THE ATTENDEES THAT BECAUSE OF THE CURRENT POLITICAL CLIMATE A SPECIAL TEAM OF NON-UNIFORMED OFFICERS WILL VISIT THE EVENTS UNANNOUNCED. THEY HAVE THE POWER TO CHALLENGE ANY INDIVIDUAL OR FIRE ARM STALL HOLDER TO PRODUCE THE DEACTIVATION CERTIFICATE FOR ALL WEAPONS.

ANYONE WHO CANNOT COMPLY WILL HAVE THESE WEAPONS CONFISCATED AND HELD UNTIL THE CORRECT DOCUMENTATION IS PRODUCED.

THE FIRE SERVICE ALSO STATED THAT ANY SPARE GAS OR PROPANE CYLINDERS NOT CONNECTED TO EQUIPMENT WILL BE REMOVED TO A SAFE AREA AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC.

    💥💥💥💥💥💥 JUST BE AWARE 💥💥💥💥💥

As far as I am aware you do not need a deac cert present as long as the deac proof markings are on weapons etc and you only need them if selling etc (although new legislation reqs the new deac regs) having said this I usually carry certs anyway

Any help appreciated as having trouble getting it to pump fuel although it does it be hand pumping the lever as well as the hand primer.

  4. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/129843

PetitionRecognise the UK standard of firearm deactivation as equivalent to EU standards.

Proposed legislation in the Policing and Crime Bill intends to enforce the application of a EU standard that will result in firearms previously deactivated to UK Home Office standards being classified as defectively deactivated. The EU standard is inferior to the UK standard and unnecessary here.

  5. Guys

Purely an initial marketing exercise to gauge interest. We are looking at opening up a covered storage facility (5 to 10,000 sq Ft) for classic vehicles (Mil Vehs get priority) on a month by month basis with the option of making use of our workshop ramp/area at an hourly rate and also for an extra nominal charge a weekly or monthly battery and fluid check maintenance service.

I am trying to see what the average cost per month for a dry clean facility with the optional costs over and above a basic rental fee.

Likewise we will also be looking at offering an outside caravan/trailer/boat storage area in a secure yard as well. Building and yard has CCTV and alarms etc and we are either considering a 24/7 entry or normal hours and weekends - still trying to find out which may be better - if normal hours then we would also have to offer an out of hours service to open up far a nominal sum to cover cost of staff coming in at whatever time.

Thoughts, discussions and comments welcome and also anyone who may be interested and want to be put on a waiting list, price and availability dependent etc, likewise anyone who already does similar advice and warnings re pitfalls and problems, customer relations etc.

    Thanks

    Gary

  6. Had our C60L wrecker uplifted to our new location by our Local REME unit as part of a charity assistance project. The Man SVR recovery vehicle (13 tonne lift and 50 tonne winch pull) looks massive compared to our wee CMP. The location is in built up area with lots of parked cars so a 4am delivery was necessary lol

  7. the insulated box aka hay box was in use into the 80s with some units, a local shop used to have a pile of these on sale wonder if they have any left will need to go look. I have the metal containers, dixies with lids but no outers

  8. One of the highlights on here every year was the posts by various members arriving at and during the build up and actual War & Peace event. This was a great way to see everything that was going on for those of us who couldn't make it along for whatever reason.

This year there has been a media blackout, it seems, as there has been nothing thus far and it is nearly over! Has the regular contributors been so busy enjoying the show or is there an Electronic Black hole or bubble sitting over the area, maybe ECM being used by Rex lol.

    Just my thoughts guys
