  1. Welcome Andy to the Forum, we have a lot of great members who all share the same passion and love affair with Military Vehicles and their knowledge and willing to help is absolutely awesome. What part of Devon...? I moved from Torquay to Orlando 22 years. :cheesy:
  2. What a beauty, I would have this in a heartbeat and it would certainly go down a treat here in Orlando. Oh well, we can only dream. Good Luck with the Sale, someone will sure snap this up.
  3. Peter...."THANK YOU" - "Thank You", this is awesome and what a history file. I wonder what happened from May 1988 to July 1994 ...do you think the record is missing any history or was this the wind down for Ferrets in service? The seller of the Ferret was quite adamant that 01CC99 served in Gulf I !!! but looking at this, it seems to have spent most of its life in Germany (BAOR Theatre). I have printed this and it is now proudly part of 01CC99 History File. Simon Keep Calm And Ferret On
  4. Managed to get a copy of the records for my '59 Ferret Mk I/I (01CC99) from Bovington. The scan is poor but with the help of a magnifying glass, I'm hoping members can help me decode my Vehicle History Card: Scout Car Liaison Ferret Mk I/I (VHF) FF Clansman Daimler DIS May 1959 EIN 1 HA 04 Contract/Warrant Number 6/FV/19260 Theatre BAOR 20-11-59 17 VEH BN RAOC BAOR 31-12-59 HQ 25 CORPS ENGR REGT RE BAOR 30-5-69 12 FLD SQN RE BAOR 21-8-69 Reclassified Age to Class 3 (INTERNAL MOVE 23-3-70) 42 FLD SQN BAOR 23-9-74 17 BVD STOCK BAOR 12-1-76 9/12 LANCERS BAOR 6-4-76 VSD M BAOR 20-9-77 R HUSSARS (PWO) BAOR 15-10-78 Code Change 0110 4111 to 0112 4111 Auth DSM 530 29-3-79 SCOTS DG BAOR 27-7-81 Conversion 0112 4111 to 0112 4001 J67-27.7.81 VVK 25-11-86 RHG/D 28-1-88 ODA (EQPT A/C) 20-5-88 LUDGERSHALL 27-7-94 S/O Witham (Spclst Vehs) Ltd 999 The "Compliments Slip" from the Museum says "well done, your Ferret has some great history!!!" Any help you can give is REALLY Appreciated. Cheers....Simon KEEP CALM AND FERRET ON
  5. Thank You Robin, any help you can give is most appreciated.
  6. Hello Friends and Happy New Year! I know there has been a lot of chatter about which oils etc... and sorry to bring up old nightmares but I hope you can understand ...Orlando is not "Military Vehicle Friendly" so trying to find SAE30 non-detergent oil for the engine etc… and EP90 GL-1 oil for the transfer box etc… , well - let's just say most automotive stores look at me like I'm crazy. My Ferret (01CC99) is in need of a good service, can anyone American Ferret(eers) or Canadian Ferret(eers) help me? and .....am I even looking for the right oils? Thank You. “Keep Calm And Ferret On”
  7. Good Evening Friends....GREAT NEWS, I received today my Dad's Army Records. He served in the Royal Signals, 87th Army Group Royal Artillery (AGRA) so I guess I was off a little with R.E.M.E. although I could have sworn he mentioned this, either way ...I am very proud to have obtained his military records along with his Army No. As a bonus, I also found out my Grandfathers name (my Dad's dad) as he was listed as Next of Kin sharing the same address which is something we did not know, Dad never talked much about his life prior to meeting my Mum ...he would go as far as saying say his life started when he married her. So I can add this to my family tree. Called my Mum in Torquay to tell her the good news and she is as chuffed and proud as I am. "Even though you left me June 30th, 2013, I miss you every second, every minute and every hour ...Good Night, God Bless Dad".
  8. System must be slow......waiting for your PM to fall in
  9. Griff....You bet, we had to have them drilled back in the UK before entering the US, otherwise ATF would have seized the Ferret at the Port and my ownership would have been very short lived. Tempted to fix the holes with an outer cap to slide over the entire smoke discharger, be my luck that if I was to weld the holes closed, I would be caught at a show by local Law Enforcement.
  10. Wally, I am indeed missing all (6) of the rubber smoke discharger covers. Tried eBay (UK & US) and several companies with no such luck. I found (6) new flat rubber caps that just barely slip on the end but I was hoping to find the longer versions - so no caps yet. Under new laws passed by the ATF here in the U.S., we had to decommission each discharger by drilling a single hole through each barrel equal to the diameter of the nozzle!!!!! :-(
  11. YES....sounds like I have a short as the lamp stays on constantly, so for now, I am simply unscrewing the cap to break the contact. Wally.....the Ferret is FANTASTIC and so much better than I thought. I plucked up the courage, read the owners handbook and drove it several times around the block - drives perfectly, just a couple of very small issues to sort out. Remember, I purchased this sight unseen except for 30+ pictures. I fly back home to Torquay next week to finally lay my Dad to rest. He wanted to be cremated so we had a beautiful Rose Garden made for him in Cockington Village in his memory so he can finally be laid to rest. Then when I return home, work can begin on the Memorial Plates for the Ferret in his honor - "Name, Rank, Serial Number, Regiment, Dad, Hero...My Best Friend"
  12. Perfect…..this picture helps a lot. Now all I need to figure out is what exactly does the “Panel Off” switch do as is swivels freely with pressure to push-in but does nothing when lights and everything is on and working...? - The only electrical issue I have is the LEFT TURN SIGNAL, lights come on and stay on – no flasher and no dash light, so this may be a simple ground issue or may need to replace the flasher unit... when I put on the four-way flashers, the right side works great but the left side stays on and the bulbs burn hot really fast.
  13. FIRSTLY...sorry for having to ask such stupid questions to members of the Ferret Community :red: I have many handbooks and for some reason, I cannot find information about the left-side instrument panel (turn signals, start etc…) – I know this sounds daft but all the “lettering” on mine has rubbed off over time. Please can anyone post pictures and/or descriptions…. - Between the Yellow/Red Indicators, there is a switch – (not sure for what as it spins freely but also has a pressure for pushing in) …? - Lock / Off / On – in “Lock” Position, does this cut off all power…? - Switch between Off/On and Start – no white lettering at all…? Also…..on the Speedo Panel, am I right in saying to turn off the dash lights, I turn the black cap located next to the petrol gauge…? (I understand if I turn the cap fully, it comes off to show the bulb). I found the horn and headlight dip switch hidden under the metal cap. Now all I need is to locate a correct shovel, the only thing stolen off the Ferret during transit!!! KEEP CALM AND FERRET ON... :cool2:
  14. As many of you now know, I purchased 01CC99 in Memory of my Dad (see previous post) who passed away in June 2013. I found 01CC99 in the UK and had it shipped to Florida. No issues what so ever, found myself two fantastic brokers to handle all the paperwork required for Export and Import ...NO issues what so ever and believe me when I say, you have nothing to worry about, anyone can do it, just make sure you get the right brokers to help you (PM me and I will gladly supply them to you). We picked up 01CC99 from Port Jacksonville, FL ...US Customs where on hand to help us load it on our trailer in return for a quick drive around the impound before leaving. :cool2: Then my nightmare began. Went to my local Orange County TAG Agency here in Orlando to obtain a Title and Tag, the Supervisor took one look at the Ferret and almost had a heart attack, she swore she would not let me drive it on the roads of Orlando stating this was a tank, not a scout car and she even took a picture of the Ferret and emailed it to ALL Agencies within Orange County . Well, Thanks to my newly made friends at the DMV Office (former Military guys) , I am here today to report I have a Title and Tag in hand for 01CC99. It took an amazing 2 days, 3 hours and 22 minutes to obtain it and we even got the Florida State Office for the DMV involved but a Precedence has been set and from here forward, any new Ferret Owners wishing to Title and Tag their Ferret in the Sunshine State of Florida will have no issues what so ever, in fact, it should only take you about 15-20 minutes to do so. Thanks to the Supervisor who vowed I would not get the Title/Tag, Florida State DMV made a new category for Ferrets - Tank/Truck or TN on the title. Not what I was expecting but it is done and we can move forward. The reason behind the TN (in the minds of Government Officials) is easy, the Ferret has a Hull of a Tank, but the Wheels of a Truck - hence TN!!! I must also say a BIG "Thank You" to a certain Ferret Owner in South Florida who not only lent an ear...but provided tremendous support and input for me when the past couple of days seemed grim. "KEEP CALM AND FERRET ON"
  15. My Mk I also has both of these antenna mounts fitted. It went through a Base Overhaul in August 1990 at 34 Base Workshops, REME, at Donnington in Shropshire …so I’m guessing they may have been added then.
