  1. Thanks for the warm welcome everybody much appreciated. Yes Chris that was my MW it looks like a different truck now though as you appear to have virtually rebuilt it. I never got to Normandy in it but managed to get there in my 43 Ford GPW a few years later. I wish I had kept the Bedford but glad it went to a good home. My current green machine is a 41 Chevrolet G-7107 which I bought recently but hasn't turned a wheel since. I miss my jeep already but no work meant I had to sell it and buy something a little cheaper so we could eat ! Will hopefully get another jeep one day maybe a restoration project but things are difficult at the minute no work no cash.
  2. Thats interesting as with all stories I suppose things get added but I do believe the chap who as a boy saw them buried as he is a retired school teacher who is extremely fond of Barkstons wartime history and not one to make up stuff. Isuppose we will never know as the land still belongs to the MOD and not available to dig. A lot of stuff was buried after the war as finds have proved but some will always stay buried.
  3. I live very near to RAF Barkston Heath in Lincolnshire and it is common knowledge round here that at the end of the war many jeeps were buried on site, whether this is true is anyones guess although I have been told this by someone who swears as a boy he watched them do it ! I was also told that pilots training there to this day are warned their compasses will play up when flying over the field containing these jeeps. Is it true who knows ?, but I would love to find out for sure.
  4. Forgive me for this as I only joined yesterday so maybe my views are not relevant but in my opinion you only have to look at the Nuremburg rallies etc to realise that the vast majority of Germans supported the Nazi party and its aims it seems to me that people only started saying they were against it once the war was lost (damage limitation) ? Maybe the young children were unable to make rational choices but the truth is the Nazi's were elected into power by the very people who later claimed not to support them.
  5. Hello, My names David Wallis and I have recently joined so just a few lines to introduce myself. I have been a fan of all military vehicles since my time in the forces and a few of the vehicles I have owned are 1943 Ford GPW, 1980 Land Rover Lightweight, 1975 Land Rover FFR lwb, 1939 Bedford MW generator truck and my latest is a 1941 Chevrolet G-7107 cargo truck which I hope to take to the D Day anniversary next year. I usually attend as many shows as possible and Pickering Railway at War each October has been my favourite however last years seemed to have lost alot of atmosphere so I have decided to give it a miss this year and try somewhere new. Best Wishes to all. David
