  1. welcome to the forum friend. one of my favourite vacation destinations Vegas! some interesting stuff you have hidden in that desert!!
  2. Just a further note on the Butterfly fuse relic I have. A collector in the early 80`s (I think) had the complete bomb on his mantle piece at home as a display!!!! It was when the series "Danger UXB" was on tv (maybe earlier than 80`s then, sure I will be corrected!) He watched the one with the Butterfly Bomb and they said it couldnt be de-fused!!!! He then carried his to the bottom of the garden and called the Bomb Squad. They blew it there and then and said if he hadnt have moved it they would have no choice to blow it where it wes.....on his mantlepiece!!! This is true as it was in the Daily Mirror at the time which is how I found out about it and wrote (Yes, a letter....pen, paper, stamp etc....you get the drift!! LOL) to him asking for information on it. He searched the debris and sent me the outer fuse cover with all the stampings on!! On another note that would scare the poop out of you. Last year one of my customers (a demolition company) had an unanounced safety inspection at his workshops. The safety guy recognised the item being used as a door stop in the workshops.......... only another Butterfly bomb!!! This was taken to local fields by the Bomb Squad and blown!!!! Scarey as hell what some people have lying round!!
  3. hi, think the AZ 41 is a fuse of some sort. I have one similar marked off a butterfly bomb! type 41 fuse, not date. the two holes for a pin spanner.
  4. Howdee doodee partner and welcome to the forum
  5. Hi, Im new so didnt miss you, but HELLO anyway and welcome back to the fold....!!!
  6. G`Day and welcome to the forum przyjaciel.
  7. Just an update, my supplier recognises this fitting and is making a call Monday!
  8. Now thats a nice one....! 1 5/26" wired nut with a convex cone (Bsp 60 degrees, JIC 37 degrees or SAE 45 degrees?) compact Male / Female 90! The thread on the male side the same (will the nut screw on it?) It looks like it has been manufactured out of TWO parts judging by the seam below the male thread. I know Burnett And Hillmann can make one offs like this but it would cost a bit. I will speak to my suppliers this morning and get the feelers out. If theres some out there they will find them. Good old British MOD, never a dull moment!! The ones I do for the MOD ships have same threads BUT no cone, flat on the faces!!!! They say variety is the spice of life eh??? o you know if the cone is 60 degrees, 37 degrees of SAE 45 degrees (normally oil cooler lines!) Just had a thought, is it off an engine oil cooler system???? Havent come across them for years but they used to use simelar on the oil cooler systems on the old Atlantean Busses!! We used to take the adaptors out of the coolers etc and fit our own to make it easier to connect. Has the hose that goes onto it got like a fabric braid on the outside and the fittings on the ends have FLATS on the collar (ferrule) that holds them to the hose??? There is a specialist company that supplies this stuff called BURGAFLEX, havent used them in years but might be worth a try if its oil cooler lines!!! Any problems you can PM me and will give you my number.
  9. The 1 5/16" is a JIC fitting (dash 21) which is too small (1 3/8" equates to 1 6/16") but still has the 12TPI on the threads, also it has an inverted cone (convex) on the face. A BSP has a convex cone (unless its JIS when it has a concave cone; ie. Caterpillar fittings! confused yet???) LOL Has your fitting got a concave cone on the face or flat faced?? Any pics available?? We can make them to suit with a pattern or make new hoses (plain black with no coloured brand writing on if you prefere) re-using your original ends and tested. We can also manufacture and supply seals to pattern if required, in most materials. If you ask we can only say no, which isnt very often! lol
  10. I know that 500 bar is not high pressure, thats working pressures, burst is 4 times that and test is 1 1/2 times. We supply hoses to the MOD at 1400 bar (certified to 2100 bar) and some to 2000 bar (certified to 3000 bar) As most modern STANDARD hydraulic systems rarely go over 500 bar (most valve blocks and solenoid valves would blow at that, not to mention interface seals and securing bolts!) We have done work Hydrasun engineers down here and taken contracts off Rolls Royce, as we make all our hoses onsite up to 2" multispiral. End of FREE PLUG....LOL.
  11. Your joking arnt you.....!!!! I was senior engineer for them for over 10 yrs up here and they are all muppets!!! LOL Case of no love lost there then!! Why not try your resident online club member who owns his own HYDRAULICS COMPANY!! AND to boot does the work on the MOD ships up here in Cammel Lairds Ship Yard! AND has made the 13/8" UNF hoses on the Fleet Auxillary ships that supply high pressure air (500 Bar) to the submarines they are supplying!:cool2: I do wish some people would have the time to read the NEWBEES intros when we come on...!!
  12. Think im living in the wrong country....!!!! Too many Shermans lying around in France I think!!!! Doing a fantastic job on this and more luck than you can shake a stick at!!!! Just decided, cant find a Welbike so now I want a Sherman!! Just a couple more cylinders on the engine and a few more wheels!! Not much difference realy then...??? LOL :trustme::nut:
  13. Think they are advertising them on el alamein website, selling them as copies of the Canadian ones, dig out the website link and post it. Some interesting bits on there too, have a mooch! http://www.elalamein.eu/ Yhey have 8 complete uniforms different sizes @65 euros each!!!
  14. I remember this place as a kid too, would spend the whole day up there. Bought a fair bit of kit off them too, webbing, pouches etc. If I remember right he had it all layed out on a large table in the shop and you had to delve in and grab what you needed. Quite cheap too.
  15. As soon as I saw that I thought Mariners Telescope. i have one simelar bound in leather made early 1800`s as dated by Liverpool museum that i was given by a great uncle years ago. Looks very simelar to pic apart from leather bound. OR could be something else.....Thats my expert opinion...!!:nut:
  16. Thats the one, Glacier Girl, excellent book if you get your hands on it. I had lost contact with the story but knew some of the braking system was restored over here (Girling/Lockheed units??) My father worked for Girling in Bromborough when it was going!
  17. Anyone mentioned the "planes below the ice" story?? A squadron of P38`s lost their bearings and landed on an ice shelf in the antartic (I think, got the book but cant recall off top of head!!) They rescued the crews and intended to come back to refuel planes and retrieve but due to bad weather couldnt. When finally had the chance the planes were covered in snow so decided to leave them there. About 10-15 yrs ago onje guy set out a rescue mission, cut long story short he used steam and hot water to free one plane 30m below surface and brought one up. As far as I know rest are still down there!! Get the book, great pics of the planes then and now. The salvaged plane is now being rebuilt!! Im into my Urban Exploration and you would not believe what lies below our feet, seen a few things in shelters and bunkers. The 2000 person shelters near me still had military kit in them in the 70`s!!! remember them as a kid when we used to climb in down the air vents, all blocked up now. Had a few gas masks out of there even then!!

Hi Ron I've seen that site and had a good look. There's another guy in the US who has done a register and list of one's sold that he knows of. Quite a few found their way to New Zealand and Australia (where my sis lives, have to get her to have a look about the net there!!)

    Welbike

I have a contact in America that says many where exported over there! some as parade bikes or even circus clown bikes!!! Many of these are in bright colours, blue, red, yellow etc! He's looking for a mini to restore if anyone has any info for the New York area. I'm looking for a Welbike for a 're enactment I'm doing if anyone can help. incomplete or abandoned project.
  20. Has anyone got any info on any welbikes for sale? Either a MK1 or MK2 prefered for a WW2 Para re-enactment. Dont mind incomplete or restoration piece. also maybe a Drop container, but as most had crumple crush noses that might be a long shot! Any info greatly appreciated. Serious collector, trying to get the contacts in the military vehicle world. Many Thanks in advance
  21. Was just before Christmas, maybe end of November, driving home from work. Was sitting at the lights at the bottom of M53 sliproad at junc 5.....Saw low loader passing with a Russian T34 on the back heading up the A41 towards Birkenhead/Liverpool direction. Tried to follow but got stuck in traffic. Anyone know where it was heading and why??
  22. Hi, Im Hoseman, new here and asked to introduce myself.....Here goes.... I own my own Hydraulics company dealing with mobile breakdowns and site work. Great job, get so see a lot of things and places the average person cant get access to. Been interested in Militeria since an early age, collecting the usual medals and badges at first, then the uniforms and the weapons (deacs). Had a passion for Military Vehicles for some time, just not the opertunity to do much about it,(costs, storage and contacts) but getting there. I also restore Classic Cars presently owning 2 morris Minor Convertables and a Traveller (woodie!). Im currently putting a WW2 para uniform together, let a lot of stuff go in the late 80`s and early 90`s to my great regret!! Had some nice German stuff i bought "Under the Counter" when I was there as a teenager, but that went in my youth too!! So, im here keeeping in with the crowd for when its time to take the plunge and hopefully gain a few knowledagable contacts to help me on the way. Many Thanks for reading and see you all out there (on tinterweb!) soon. Man with a hose......................Hoseman :-D
