  1. If you go to the Archaeology thread, two up from the model one and then go down three places to the Libya/Tripolitania chat, I'm sure there was discussion of that emblem. Strangely, started by a Canadian member. I don't have time to go through it now, but I'm sure it will be worth your while. Good luck.
  2. Good luck to whoever it is, if people are daft enough to pay those prices.
  3. If I remember rightly OC600 was used in Centurion gearboxes, so I guess Hutch 3674 is a young whippersnapper with experience of more modern vehicles. Great work on this old girl, so good luck with it. Steve.
  4. I for one prefer to see vehicles working rather than gathering dust. Think of all the vehicles that were demobbed after both world wars and how many went on to do many years of hard work before being restored. It looks as if very little has been altered and it could easily be restored if wanted. Steve.
  5. I would suggest it would not be good to pursue this line of chat, as it is likely to result in verbal fisticuffs. I have lost count of the number of times I have stifled a scream over grammatical errors etc but at the end of the day this is not a site promoting the English language. As long as people can understand and be understood, please just live and let live. Steve.
  6. Hi Steve, and welcome. I am sure your knowledge will be an asset to many here. By the way, I'm also Steve, ex-army and 69 years old, but sadly I don't currently have the time, funds nor space for any hardware, so I can only offer an occasional snippet from my experiences. No doubt you can do better. Good luck. Steve.
  7. But was it a Warrior or a Challenger?
  8. Rotating the wheel by 30 degrees (in either direction) would have enabled a clearer representation, but we are not all technical drawing experts. Anyway, it seems we now understand what is intended. Steve.
  9. Hi David, I think the D dimension is actually supposed to be the pitch diameter, as the left hand grey line extends through one stud to the one below, which doesn't make it easy to see. STEVE.
  10. Advertisers have always had a bit of a cheek.
  11. That looks to be in good condition, so assuming parts and equipment are not too hard to find, it should be a nice restoration job. Well done for purchasing and good luck. Steve.
  12. Brilliant films, thank you for posting. I was amused by "the Scammells are coming" in the first one, I don't think I've ever seen a training film with a comedic commentary before. Also, the vehicle with the rear end on a trailer and front wheels on the road under tow was an eye-opener. Always good to get an understanding of bygone practices. Steve.
  13. Good on you. One of the less common vehicles (at least on this site), so best of luck with the project. Steve.
  14. Good morning to you and welcome. If it's military I'm sure there will be plenty of people wishing you well with it. Just one thing to remember; everyone likes to see lots of pictures! Good luck with your endeavours. Steve.
  15. I've not been for several years, so not perhaps as good a comparison as recent visitors could give, but with many pluses and a few minuses, I would give it a seven out of ten this year. Steve.
  16. As no expert has come along, I will put in my two penn'orth. Soon after coming into service, the mark 1 Stalwarts had a new exhaust system fitted as a mod. From my (very bad) memory the original, 2" I think, manifold pieces looked like that, and yes there would have been four. Steve.
  17. That really is a labour of love. It's what I would have liked to do but never had the cash or space for. Now too old old to contemplate it, so good luck and I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines. Steve.
  18. I think a dropped kerb is a requirement everywhere and certainly sensible in this situation. Could save problems in the future, as you will have done it legally. Good luck with the project. Steve.
  19. I'm sure the purists will have looked anyway and been scandalised but I think ferrets are common enough to have a few extra 'variants' without being an issue and it can all be returned to original later if required. So good on you for showing what the army missed out on for all those years. Steve.
  20. Just a thought but if deviating from the original by using coloured wiring is your concern, perhaps all-black wires could be identified by fitting numbered rings, as many military vehicles had in the past (possibly still do?). It may be easier to hide such unoriginal features and be more in line with what you are after. Steve.
  21. It seems to me that a CES is called for. Surely Clive has one?! It certainly looks as if everything could be original, but what's the chances it's all complete? Good luck and thanks for keeping us all enthralled. Steve.
  22. It looks to me like someone wearing cook's whites just to the right of centre in the group photo, which would add weight to the messing area scenario.
  23. Hi Bernard and thanks for the prompt reply. I have been busy these past few days, hence slow response. I will have a longer look when time allows, but I think I haven't found the correct link, as the one you gave sent me to a thread I'd not seen before. Thanks again. Steve.
  24. I am struggling to access the photos in the gallery. How do I get a picture to come up? I have tried to click on the index number but nothing happens. I also have a picture I would like to upload once I have managed to get it into a suitable format. Can I add it direct to the gallery? Assistance would be gratefully received. Steve.
  25. I'm sure anyone who served anywhere during the Cold War will have numerous memories of the time but it's picking out what is of interest to the wider public. I suppose even what I think of as mundane could be an eye-opener to others, so I will put my thinking cap on. Actually, my first memory of any action was soon after joining 11H LAD in Jan 68, when the unit was called out on a "quick train". Three of us had arrived together and not yet been allocated to vehicles and two of us ended up riding on the back decks of the HQ Sqn Cent ARV. Being early Jan it was bitter cold, so the heat from the decks made it quite bearable, especially as we were only out for a few hours. Just a pity the decks weren't a bit softer!
