  1. I'd hoped to have made the trip with Tobin. Unfortunately due to family being up, I couldn't. My dad and I did take the Scout carrier out and about on a mini road run. Driving carriers on the road can be fun but the ice certainly helps keep concentration levels high!! Fortunately I didn't have an issue until we went looking for a little ice at Turweston airfield. Perhaps next year in the Dingo!!
  2. Later type carriers sometimes had a fitted cover but the vast majority of carriers just had a flat sheet as you mentioned, they were essentially open to the elements. What carrier type do you have?
  3. I can watch Julian rebuild that one. I must keep my eyes open for another..... Thanks
  4. Did either of these two sell? Does anyone know if they're still available? Thanks
  5. Best of luck. Great looking project. Ben
  6. It's a Loyd part. The part number is listed in the Loyd parts list. It's not early, the clue is the size of the number 13*** and the date 1941. Early British parts would have a much lower part number and a 193* date. It also isn't mentioned in the early British carrier parts list. The British production was suffering from German bombing, this is one of the reasons carrier production was started in Canada. I think a batch of carriers were ready and the only units available (perhaps due to bombing) where the Loyd ones, they function and fit exactly the same as the carrier type, they just look different. I think this is one reason for the non folding gunners armour, again this isn't an early feature as early carriers all have folding armour. It was just easier and quicker to make the fixed type If the date fits the carrier, keep them on. Strictly speaking they're not correct as they're a Loyd part but it's all part of the story. They may have left the factory fitted to that vehicle or perhaps swapped in service by the Kiwis, they had Lyods too. Either way it's up to you, it won't effect the use of the vehicle, just it's appearance.
  7. Andy I'll take the Scout carrier, should be there all week. Looking forward to seeing how many carriers we can get in one place. I'm pretty sure we should set a record!! Ben
  8. What a perfect way to check the new mag is working correctly:cool2:
  9. Arabic snatch, Greek boy or even Dutch football. Still looks great:D
  10. Great work Rick. What happened to the Cush? Ben
  11. Andy It's starting to come together. We're at 12 carriers, Scout, MK1*,MK2* and T16. There's feelers out for Loyd and LP types too. Ben
  12. This was just after it was painted, it's started to go back together now but I don't have a more recent picture. The original reg number was still there under the paint, I Carefully rubbed back the paint and decided to keep the reg number as original, just a protective layer of lacquer over the top. Ben
  13. Hi Stefan Great shot, it is a Scout MK1L. Also interesting is the reg number, I'm restoring Scout carrier RMY 683. It's a shame the one in your photo isn't a little clearer. Would you have anymore shots of Brens or Scouts? Mine is the only known surviving Scout and information is very thin on the ground, period shots can sometimes shed light on missing information. Ben
  14. Excellent family show, great weather and good to catch up with some folk. Fingers crossed I can bring a toy next year. (I assume it's the name on the truck) Ben
  15. Good to see you, a productive day. Pity all those wheels went back into the Disco these little trips can make a big difference and help a lot with project morale. Ben
  16. The Holt tractors are fantastic, love the camouflage pattern too. A quick google search shows a couple of survivours, are there anymore? ben
  17. Well done on finding the parts in Holland, they should help a lot. How about a push to get it done for W&P next year? :cool2: We can encourage each other along......... Ben
  18. Hi What battery would a WS11 have used in late 1939/40 when fitted in a carrier as part of the BEF? I'm struggling to find good references but think it would have been a wooden box type and stored in the rear compartment battery box. Could any of you supply photos or details please? Thanks Ben
  19. Love the "catalogue" pose shot. Did things get that bad by the end of the show in the back of the 44 that Rick needed the easy access tear in the tank suit..?
  20. Yeah well done Rick. It's nice to see all the hard work and effort rewarded. ben
  21. Good to see the video from Thursday evening. The steering really started to work well by the end. Excellent result with the award, a reflection of the work and dedication needed to get a special vehicle like the Cromwell up and running, Well down Rick. Looking forward to seeing it in print. Ben
  22. Just got home from W&P, hope Rick doesn't mind me saying that the Cromwell looks and sounds really great. Just left after its maiden run after hours in the arena. great work...... Ben
