  1. Tony, Glad you have managed to get a picture of yours in service as well, as Adam mentioned they appear pretty rare and bet you were well chuffed cos i certainly am. Havent been on the site for ages and just decided to have a look and saw your post. 01CA78 was in N Ireland from 1969 for most of 1970s before going to Cyprus and then BRITFORLEB (Beirut I guess) in 1983 and then back to Cyprus, (bits of white paint appear now and then). Finally sold off and ended up at Hirsts in 1995 where she must have sat until Andy brought it in 98. Where was yours when painted in peace keeping colours? Have posted a picture hope i have done it right! Many thanks again Tony email address is: Lavelle.Terry@yahoo.co.uk regards Terry
  2. Tony, Thanks for posting picture of the photo, it certainly looks like 01 CA 78 and I have checked my service records which although strangely seem to begin in 1964 and is complete from that date, this Ferret was actually in service from Feb 1959. It begins with Nov 1964 Guards Ind Para company then May 1966 Para Sqn RAC, who I now understand were in Aden at that time and got their Ferrets from Ind Guards coy. So thanks to your picture you have managed to fill in a bit of history for this Ferret. 01 CA 78 is alive and well, and I have had the pleasure of looking after it for the last 3 years after she was restored by a guy called Andrew Deacon back in 98/99 when she was in a terrible state. Andrew did a great job restoring her and apart from the odd leaks of oil it runs great, is very complete and is in very good condition. Is it at all possible I could get a copy of your picture and your permission to enlarge it. best regards Terry
  3. Cheers guys, Here`s an update, and another question! Took off the oil pump and the sheared T part was inside where it fits snuggly into the oil pump drive. When i first took the distributor shaft out there was a black thin metal hex shaped sleeve, around the bottom of the shaft which appeared to be incomplete. When i took the pump off to retrieve the sheared T lug of the shaft there was two tiny sides off this hex sleeve which appeared to have sheared from the main part. The Willys manual states there is a friction spring at the bottom of the distributor shaft I guess this is what the metal hex is in an M201? If so do you reckon this may be the cause of the problem? Many thanks again guys. best regards Tel
  4. Many thanks Centurion, Will try that and hope it comes out with the oil pump, best regards Terry
  5. Has someone give any ideas on the following Had a progressive tapping noise coming from the engine on my Hotchkiss M201 which got louder the other evening. I pulled up in front of my garage and turned her off. I tried to start her to get in the garage and it didnt start then coughed and spluttered and then nothing. Couldnt get her in the garage by pushing on my own as there is a slight lip so used the Ferret to push her in. Now to the problem, i have taken the plugs out and she turns over with compression in each cylinder. Then took the distributor cap off and the rotor will not turn. When i tried to turn it by hand it turned right round very easily. This isnt right i thought so took the complete assembly out and it would seem the shaft has sheared off at the very end. Does anyone know how i get the sheared off part out of the engine which is now sitting snuggly at the end of the shaft housing, and does anyone know why this may have happened and if there is something else more serious at fault. :? Many thanks and best regards to all. Tel
  6. Many thanks everyone for the advice, much appreciated best regards Tel
  7. Hi all, Can someone tell me the best way to charge my Ferret batteries. As alot of military vehicles they are 2x 12v linked so do I charge them seperately using a 12 volt charger? Or do I leave them in situ and connected to each other and use a 24V charger. regards Tel
  8. Hi everyone, been a member of Ferret Heaven for a while now and thought I would now join HMVF too. Owner of 1 x 1959 mk2/3 Ferret and now a 1962 Hotchkiss M201. regards Tel
