Hello Folks, what sort of lever would have operated the exhaust valve lifter from the handlebars? Mine has the mechanism in the cylinder head but not the cable or handle. Most of the bikes I,ve seen have a separate handle but the drawing in the hand book makes it look like the handle was integral with the clutch lever. Andy

Help!! can anyone tell me how the fuel tank is supposed to be connected to the carb? Mine only has one connection from the left side of the tank via an on/off valve! This means it only draws fuel from one side of the tank. There are two other blanked outlets towards the front of the tank so are these supposed to be connected via some sort of U tube? Andy

Hello troups, i was at the VMCC Founders day at Stanford Hall last month and there were quite a few military bikes about including WWII types. I noticed that some of them had old fashioned brass pump action type fire extinguishers mounted in various places on the bike and pannier frames. They did look very good but did that happen in reality? I,ve got one of those extinguishers and have thought about fitting it on my 3HW. all the best Andy

Well the next job on my 3HW was to get the new leather corners made for the pannier bags. The old ones had all perished, so I asked Dad if he would have a go and what a cracking job he did too! Anyone going to Stanford Hall this weekend as the 3HW and I will be there?

Thanks for saying so Ron. Next job is getting the pannier frames sorted, one thing you maybe able to help with is what the brackets look like to fix the lower part of the frames to the rest of the bike. I had a look at the 3HW in the Nation Motorcycle Museum but they are clearly wrong. If they originally used brackets like they have put on, you would never be able to raise the tray as the bolts would be in the way. I'm assuming because of the holes along the bottom of the frame that that is where the brackets would have been fitted,am I right? Regards Andy

Thanks to help from Ron, my 3HW now proudly wears its new identity. Still working on the pannier frames so hopefully they will be on soon.

Hi Folks, Are the electric horns for 3HW's easy to come by. Looking at the photos of other bikes mine is obviously not the right one and isn't mounted in the right place!

Hi James, just done exactly the same thing myself. Wanted a wartime bike, decided on Triumph and researched what they made for the war effort. I had never even heard of a Triumph 3HW! All the best for your quest, hope you have as much fun as me!!! andy

Hello Folks, anyone know if 3HW front brakes always had a short cable that becomes a rod which operates the brake? Mine has a cable all the way from the brake to the handle bar. Andy

Clever idea. What are the gear boxes like to work on? I need to take a look at mine as its jumping out of top and sometimes struggles to find 1st. Thanks again for the info Andy

Hi Ron, I notice on your bike there is a pipe coming out of the top of the oil tank. Where does it go to? Mine has the union but its blanked off. Regards Andy

Well mine certainly has the lever but not the cable or the control on the handle bars so thats something I will need to source. I dont know if there is anything on the inside as when I had a close look today it seemed very loose and not actually contacting anything?

Hi Ron, very many thanks for this info. Cant wait to get the stencils and paint out!! One confusing thing though, there is a stamping on the frame under the saddle " IEC 3 44" but as you say that might be the date the frame was made rather than when the bike was built. Does your bike have the exhaust lifter? It is fitted on mine but its not connected up and there is no control for it. Regards Andy

Hi Everyone, I've just joined the HMVF, so I'm new to all this! However I've also recently bought a 3HW and have similar questions about its originality. Currently the bike hasnt got a number painted on the tank and I would really love to use an authentic, and if possible an accurate number. Anyway the frame is TL 53551, the engine 3HW 58823 and the gearbox TE 62836 with WR stamped in the top of the gearbox casing (Wide Ratio, I believe?) Any info would be much appreciated. Oh by the way my frame does still have the side stand lug!! Many thanks

Hello Everyone, I'm Andy from Northampton, England, I own a 1944 Triumph 3HW motorcycle. I've never owned a bike before, let alone a military one, so i'm on a steep learning curve hence joining the HMVF. I'm gradually working my way over the bike getting to know it and fixing the snags. There are a few bits missing so hopefully I can find these via this site. All the best Andy
