  1. ok, so I went to my local scrap yard in Kent today, and was gobsmacked to spot a Spartan ready to be cut up. It was in white, is that IFOR colours? I am not an expert in post war armour and so if this does not turn out to be a Spartan please forgive me, but its a tracked wedge shaped British Armoured Vehicle and it will be cut up if you dont move quickly. PM me for details. Andrew
  2. thanks very much Singe. I wil check them out. Have you any idea how many Dingoes were used in the event?
  3. try this one http://www.itnsource.com/shotlist/BHC_RTV/1946/06/08/BGU410100023/?s=*&v=0&a=1 A
  4. HI Richard, a font of knowledge as always, thanks. I wonder if somewhere there is a record of who was in which vehicle? There is probably an old Pathe new reel of the occasion. Food for thought and hours of net surfing now!
  5. Well at last I have picked up the new Dingo and its now back home safely in Kent. Well the first thing to note is that it is a MK3 not a MK2. Bit of a school boy error on my part in that i did not check the engine bay properly and thought there was no 2 speed dynamo control box when I peeked under the hood. I was wrong, there is! Its much better than I had thought and whilst the distributor was stripped out and the coil and ignition filter were missing I am moving forward to getting the old girl started. Next off will be a full clean of the fuel system. I will take the tank out and drain it and swill it around with some slosh of some type. The we can try to get her going again. I will try to post up some more detailed photos shortly. I have been told that it may well have been one of the MK3s that took part in the end of hostilities parade on the Mall in 1945. Each one had a senior member of the Armed Forces being driven in the parade. Now all I need is to find a picture of My Dingo with a certain plump Gentleman with a Homburg hat and large fat cigar and I really will have won the lottery! Anyone got any of these old photos?
  6. Its for a Daimler Dingo MK2. Check out Singe Ager on here somewhere as he has a list of most extant Dingoes, so if the Dingo still exists then it should go back to the vehicle. If I get a change I will see if I can find out whether its still alive,. Nice piece to find!
  7. I have one QLR and one QL chassis cab. The QLR was on the 77 or 78 MVCG trip to Normandy driven by may father and mother, registered CLK55H from memory. And I know of a Bofors tractor in fully restored condition as well.
  8. hi there . I have looked on the website but dont see the records. I have sent a pm as well thanks
  9. if I had the money I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I reckon that to be one of the most exciting vehicles sold at auction for some time. There again, you could bid on Paul McCartneys DB5 on tuesday at Duxford. Not quite the same cache to me though
  10. well worth it in my opinion. THE greatest Britain of all time own personal Land Rover. If you see what happened to Nelson memorabilia I suspect this will be worth 4 or 5 times this next time it comes up for sale, if ever. What a trophy/investment for some lucky person. Lets hope it stays in the UK and comes out from time to time.
  11. It appears that the Dingo post war number is 28ZS10. Therefore does anyone have a copy of the key cards for this number? I know Bovvie have them, but trying to save myself a trip down there if possible. It doesnt appear to be on the Ruddington sales particulars posted earlier . I wonder where she came from. I know it was owned by a Londoner in about 1976 but not sure who. Mystery? Any help much appreciated. thanks Andrew
  12. thanks for all the comments and interest in the Dingo. The photos tend to make it look like it was forgotten about and a bit forlorn which I suppose is partially true, but like all good barn finds, this had not ever been lost so to speak! This was owned by a collector who had moved on and decided to sell to me. I have been monitoring it for many years, and as I said the first time I saw it was in 1976/7 from memory. Back then it was in the post war British dark green and may have only been demobbed for about 8 years by then. It was used a bit in the late 1980s and then laid up. Most of that time it has been covered and only outside for a few years. I am very pleased to own it and am looking forward to bringing her back up to standard. I am told the old 19 set did work, but been advised to put it somewhere warm and let it dry out. Not sure that the number painted on the hull is correct, as I thought 340... numbers were MK3 and as this is a MK2 it may be incorrect, but the data plate is there on the chassis side, just needs a gentle clean off to reveal the post war number, I think I can see 28 ZS on the photo I took. I believe records exist to track that back on the key cards to the wartime serial. I need a new hood as the original canvas has not rotted out thanks to water sitting in the top. Does anyone know who can remanufacture these now? Martin at Allied Forces did one for me a few years back but I understand he has retired now. Will post up a few more photos when I get it home and start on cleaning it up. thanks for all the interest once again.
  13. thanks Guys. encouraging words. I had to tell someone, you lot, as I cant tell the wife! thank goodness she does not have a log in! Now all I need to do is work out a way to smuggle it home. Its only been outside for about 3 or 4 years and has just a bit of surface rust, but I will expect the brakes to need a full refurb, and may be the wiring, as they are all rubber insulated and it deterioates with age, Richard? Talking of brakes , are the brake pipe copper Richard? I cannot recall ever seeing any rust on the metal pipes in a Dingo? Home in the next 2 weeks I hope and then we can see whether it will start after 20 odd years.......of course it will
  14. Very excited, just managed to buy this lovely old Dingo last used in 1991. I have known it since about 1976 when I first saw it in ex MOD condition. Its a MK2 but I dont have the numbers yet. Can wait to get it all up and running. Normandy 2014 I hope. here is a link to some more photos http://s714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/vanquishspirit/dingo/
  15. thanks for the information. I will check the Dingo and see whether it is on there or not. At least 40 Dingoes ended up with one dealer in Hounslow, subsequently sold to a dealer in East Sussex and then sold out to collectors far and wide. I wonder if the information exists, as a matter of public record, as to who bought what? Would be interesting, I bet you would track down one or two still hidden away. I remember my Dad buying 95ZV48 in 1974 after seeing an advert for it for £325. Seemed good profit for the dealer in 6 years but not a bad buy now I suppose!
  16. how do you know it cost £45 if its on the other page ? I am confused. DO you have the other page then? if so please can you post it? thanks
  17. Thanks Guys, I appreciate the help. I am now going to sound rather mad. I have lost/mislaid the number of the Dingo I am looking for now. I will check it when I am next down the shed where it is kept and carry on the thread. I know it was not on my page from the auction above because I checked it last time. I wrote the number down an now cannot find it. Sorry to waste your time, but if you have the other page of Dingoes do please let me know, or post it up here.
  18. I have scanned the page I do have of the Dingoes sold in 1968, if anyone has the other pages relating to Dingoes please can I have a copy, if there were any? hope this is of some interest to other Dingo owners out there.
  19. thanks Nick. I have one page of the catalgue with some prices on it which relates to my first Dingo, but I cannot find any reference on this page to any others. I assume there are some more pages. Mine first one came out in a lot of 5 sold to Derek Dyson from Huddersfield. If it was only 60 Dingoes sold at this auction I wonder where and when all the others were sold?
  20. Does anyone have the Ruddington Catalogues from the sales in the 1960s by any chance? I am trying to build a history file on my Daimler Dingo and would like to track down its sale details. I would imagine it went through the auctions during 1968 when the majority of Dingoes were sold, but I stand to be corrected?
  21. Several years ago, I owned a Daimler Dingo MK3, F340805 registered GTW 796N. Sadly I sold it in the early 1990s and I have never seen it since. I have checked on a few of the websites but nobody seems to know of it, and I would dearly like to know what happened to it, and whether it is still in the UK. I partcipated in an article and photo shoot with this vehicle on Bordon Camp with about a dozen other vehicles in about 1993 for Classic and Sportscar Magazine. Please let me know if you have seen it. Am I strange in missing my old vehicles or there others out there too!!
  22. Wow!! I am not alone, there are more of us. What great work you are all doing, well done. I have had a set back in that someone has stolen the radiator from private property, outside my fathers house where it was being stored. It has really upset us, we have enough of a task on our hands not to have to contend with losing one of the best bits! I still think or wish that we could all get together and have a set of body timbers and brackets made in quantity. Whilst , what little I know about coach building tells me that they are all bespoke, I am sure they basic set up is common, with just the need for individual fitting. I confess to having been busy on another project, which has taken my time , but I will get on with this again, particularly if someone can get me my radiator back, although I suspect its in the melting pot by now. Andrew, your chassis and front end is an inspiration. well done
  23. thanks, yes indeed it a good project!!! Sadly cannot help you with the gears but keep posting here in the UK, I am sure you will find a transfer box or parts. Good luck
