  1. Sounds like the rack may be stuck? Does the Solenoid actually shift it?
  2. I used an adjustable pipe wrench, to undo the many connectors on the Chieftain electrical control systems, during my time as an ECE. The jaws can be adjusted to the correct size for each plug so do not squeeze the ferrule. Saved many a knuckle from damage (my knuckles that is!)
  3. I always think that the chains should be crossed at the front and the track chocked, or am I just being pedantic? Just feel that sideways movement could happen and the beastie could slide off the trailer. Never had any of our vehicle/ MBTs in BAOR secured like those pictures.:undecided:
  4. That is certainly an FV438 (Swingfire). The periscope is in the travel position so stowed retracted. Must be fairly early 70`s as still got the flotation kit fitted!
  5. Like the Abbot but can`t think why you have not got somebody in the commanders hatch on the intercom. It is impossible to see what is behind or even to the side of a vehicle such as this. Surprised that the fuzz did not give you a pull.
  6. When I was with Tank Regiment LAD Fitter sections as ECE I used to send the young gunners to the SQMS for packets of assorted Elipse`s for the laser range finder sights! The computer produced the elipse around the target with size proportional to range. So lots were needed..lol In either amber for night or green!
  7. This type of Cam was used in BAOR by the pack section of 12fd wksps for the hessian sheeting used to cover their repair vehicles. They always parked in farm yards so it made sense not to use the normal cam nets.
  8. Back in the dark ages...1971/2 I was attached to the Coldstream Guards in BAOR and remember an FTX during which we did a lot of night moves using the light from searchlights shone into the clouds behind us. It was a very weird experience as we could see very clearly, but I felt it was a stupid thing to do as if we could see, so could an enemy!
  9. I agree with you, that is what it is. Now where is the rest of the gun!
  10. I remember being issued with one of these at BATUS Wksps in 1979 along with the rubber overboots and fur hat! Very useful bit of kit at -40! I was on a 2 year posting so got used to the very low and high temperatures..at least we had seasons then!
  11. A Desert Cam Coloured Landrover Snatch.........Driving through Halkirk in Caithness at about 1500hrs! Not what I expected to see in this area. Civilian VRN started with N!
  12. I think you will find that it is actually Kirsty Young...a scot! Fiona is english!
  13. I feel sorry for the little red dingy doing all the work pushing the bigun!!:nut:
  14. Saw this over Wick today!
