  1. Will give stripping it down to see how I get on first, taking care about the spring now I know about that lol cheers guys :-)
  2. Does anyone know if its possible to swap over the furniture from a later black plastic with that of an earlier wooden one on a late spec de act? The reason I ask is currently I have one of each (lucky me lol :-D ) but when I place them in my swb 2a ffr/Rover 8 the plastic one does seem out of place for it (too new) so would rather swap the furniture over for shows if its possible rather then buy another one given prices now
  3. Guess it didn't help that years ago the standard 11 leaf springs I fitted also came with a blue label on them too lol, but yer sits and rides alot better now though
  4. Ordered new heavy duty 7 leaf springs from Owen Springs this week and had them by Friday, so got them fitted today and now sits up and rides alot better too :-D
  5. Still not got round to getting the charging situation sorted yet as I was decorating over winter and work getting in the way etc but have been getting a few things done though. Fitted new series 2 doortops after the old series 3 items where flopping all over the place. Found a series 2/2a handbrake on ebay not far from me so picked it up, painted and fitted one afternoon, along with the second Larkspur radio mount and then refitted both the C13 and C42 radio sets, still need quite a few bits to get the set up correct in the back but not too sure exactly what I need though. found that the rod from an old hand brake expander is just right for use on the jerry can holder with a small bar through the hole and nut on top until I get a wing nut the right thread. Just waiting on some new rear heavy duty springs as the standard ones I fitted years ago can't handle the weight in the back now. On the plus side I took it to its first show in over 10 years at the weekend at Metheringham Airfield in Lincolnshire :-D

  7. I'v got one and seen post's of a couple of others so there are a few around but quite how many I'm afraid I dont know
  8. Yer still about mate, just been way too busy with work, moving around with work, getting my own place and a couple of other wagons too, hopefully get more time to spend doing this crazy hobby in the next year or so now :-)
  9. Ah ok, will have to look and investigate further and see how its been sorted out
  10. Haven't got any leads at all or fittings for batteries in the back unfortunately, something I still need to track down someday, would this cause any problems by not having it?
  11. Awesome cheers everyone :-) just need to find time to crack on and check it out, after this weather has past lol :-)
  12. We did test the generator, but weren't really sure what to check though, with it connected up it was only showing 1-3 volts and with it disconnected I think it was something silly like going up to an 100 volts at times! but like I say not sure what results to look for at the moment
  13. Yep, well a mate with his did last week for me, had the batteries charged up so I could start it and with the multimeter and was only showing up 23 volts :-(
  14. For some reason my FFR has stopped charging, does anyone know how to check the generator, regulator and rectifier and anything else I may of missed and what results I should be getting? checked and cleaned simple regular stuff like earth leads etc and the batteries are good but got no idea how the check the rest of the system
  15. Its taken way too long, with getting moved around the country, going to hot sandy country's and that massive sports day in London last year to name a few things getting in the way, but it's finally back on the road again. Drove it around when I was back for 2 weeks in July with its new MOT and Free tax disc but now it seems to not be charging the batteries at all, does anyone have any information on how the check if the generator, regulator and rectifier are work or which bit is at fault :-(
  16. Just having a flick through to see what I can find about sankeys as I did mine up a few years ago and never worried about maintainence as everythuing is working fine but have just relised mine was the next one done the production line after tinweasle's, at work at the mo so can get pics of mine but got the info here on my phone, Trailer, cargo, 3/4 ton, 2 wh. sankey 24 ET 88 Chassis number 213 Contract no wv/5307 code no 2855,0790 Covered by ces no p/33984/3
  17. If your only going to be using the truck for shows etc I'd say keep the 2 1/4 engine thats in it and enjoy its originality, if it is to be used everyday and the Tdi can be fitted without too much modifications that can be reversed then why not, I'm planning to put a Tdi in a series 1 that has had lots of different engines in and used and abused but it will become my daily driver where as my swb ffr 2a still has its original 2 1/4 petrol as I want it to be as original as possible and my 109 has a 2.5 petrol and LPG as I use it more then the ffr but not everyday though
  18. I'm guessing the one at RAF Leeming will be out 34 SQN RAF Regiments hanger as 1 and 2 SQN's at RAF Honington (the RAF Regiment depot) also have one each outside there hangers, 1 SQN in gw1 colours and 2 SQN's in green and black
  19. Not a lot to add I'm afraid but here it is http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?8241-raf-rover-11
  20. Looks similar to a vehicle I owned until about 2 years ago, that was a ex RAF late 2a landrover like that, but the plate said something like "24 volt GS HARDTOP" so could be from the same contract
  21. Been a while since I'v done anything major to this wagon (still gotta get round and paint the interior as yet lol) I was using the wagon everyday back in December (tax had run out on my 90 and was due to go abroad before a change of plans in January) and it started using lots of water for some reason, before I found the cause of the problem and fixed it by re-torquing the head bolts I had gone halfs with a mate on a old lightweight (or "bodgeweight" as we call it lol) that had a 2.5 petrol and SU carb fitted! So last month I got round to removing the 2.5 and swapping some bits around to look like a 2.25, coat of paint to look like it had been refurbished, but not in the duck egg blue that the UK forces use, so I when for a "army green" from a Ebay company that does engine enamel paint a mate suggested, new clutch fitted and 8 bladed military spec fan fitted and it was done!
  22. Just looking at the fuel tanks (I'm guessing there's another on the other side) and the length that the chassis must extend at the rear to support the body you sure its not a QLT?
  23. Glad to hear I'v actually inspired someone with my toasty, dont think I'v ever inspired anyone in anyway lol
  24. only a couple of bits, and not for ages now as well, kept getting out bid mate, if its not you or me there must be someone else out there with a simular interest lol
  25. Bet ya cant wait to get the new chassis after seeing those pics mate, at least the relay's alright though, heard some really bad experiances where people have fitted new ones and the shafts have snapped! keep up the good work mate :-)
