  1. I recall Wally's business and stock being sold quite a few years ago. I think some of the Canadian Ford parts were bought by a certain dealer in Holland. Someone up in the North of England was running a business under the Nordian name and I did get an item from them, but it appeared to be a part time operation. Then when I was after some more parts, about 15 years ago, I found that the stock had been bought by a man in Liverpool area and I was able to get some V8 parts for a WOT6 from him. Then I believe the stock moved on again and I never did find where it ended up.
  2. Hi Johnny, I know nothing about Saurers or where to find parts. The only suggestion is to find one of the dealers in Switzerland who sell of their old military vehicles. regards, Richard
  3. Hi Jim, The reason I come to this conclusion is the LV1 parts are tank related, so definitely not for David Brown tractors! The transmission on a Centurion was a Merritt-Brown design, and it had 5 forward and 2 reverse gears.
  4. Hi Jim, I would hazard a guess that these parts are for the Centurion tank
  5. Looks like the station was taken over by a RAF Maintenance Unit to support nearby Bekesborne airfield as stores and munitions were moved from there to the station. See this link, it explains a lot; http://sussexhistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=5244.msg22026#msg22026
  6. Steve, You should look at the South East History Board, http://sussexhistoryforum.co.uk/index.php Don't be mislead by the address as it covers Kent as well, there has been posts on there about the rail guns. I believe one was kept at Ruckinge Siding on the Ashford to Hastings line at some point. Maybe they were moved around to hide them.
  7. Hi Andy, This company website states they can supply seal kits for Lake & Elliott jacks; https://www.commercialsupplies.co.uk/parts/hydraulic-seal-kits/
  8. Thanks for the alert Clive, we will miss our annual outing to Dorset next year, hopefully back to normal in 2024. regards Richard
  9. Hi Wally, I am with you on this, my view is that this was an idea for Land Rover swivels, and it is not compatible with Daimler Dingo, Armoured Car or Ferret, due to its inability to flow to the required areas. Having had many years experience working on both Ferrets and Dingos (and all other MV's) and understanding the workings of them, there is a high risk of damage due to lack of lubrication on all moving parts. I was asked about final drives over heating on a Daimler armoured car and asked what the oil level was like in the bevel boxes, when checked it was found that they had grease in them. I then asked where the heat was and it was pointed out to the section of drive line between the two tracta joints, the shafts in this section run in bronze bushes so very likely they were not getting the lubrication and possibly the inner tracta was not getting any either. With Dingos, the lubricant in the outer tracta also feed in to the wheel bearings and it is unlikely that this "L/R" grease will flow in to that area. If owners are concerned about leaks then it is time to renew the seals and check condition of the tracta challis's for scoring or pitting. For Dingos and Daimler armoured cars, the recommended oil for the final drives is SAE 140 gear oil (NOT EP 140)
  10. Hi Bob, Your seals are listed in the 1950 edition of the 6/MT1 Vocab. No applications shown for seals, but sizes are: Shaft diam. 3 5/8" OD; 4.928" Housing diam; 4.922" Width 1/2"
  11. Mark, Info came from Army Code 60293 Equipment Regulations- Pamphlet No. 8 - Nomenclature and Coding of A, B, C and D Vehicles. Although listed as in RAF service the crane IPC was an Army Code number as quoted.
  12. Mark, There was another main difference between MK and MJ, that was in the air brake system. On the MK all air pipes were steel. On the MJ they were plastic pipes, this meant that all the fittings, elbows and adaptors were different.
  13. Mark, The Army contract MK with crane - the IPC (Illustrated Parts Catalogue) for the crane only is Army Code 22753 The RAF MK with crane - The crane IPC is Army Code 22883
  14. Mark, I note in your list of MK associated publications is one for a HIAB crane, not sure whether these were ever used on Army MK or MJ as I worked in REME workshops for 22 years and all the mounted loader cranes I ever had dealings with were Atlas make. I used to repair and test the cranes as one of my tasks.
  15. At a recent steam rally, the 1930 Sentinel steam wagon from HMS Sultan, suffered a front wheel bearing failure on route, and surprisingly, it was just a large bronze bush.
  16. The MK literature was in EMER’s, the predecessor of AESP.
  17. Without checking the contract number I would say it is an early chassis number for an AEC Matador.
  18. Hi Graeme, The bolts are not familiar to me. regards, Richard
  19. He went to that posting after leaving 44 Command Workshop REME where he was 2i/c. Had a lot of respect for him, now sadly gone.
  20. Could be a bus bar spring from a Wilson pre-selector gearbox as they are square section, if it is 4.25 ins long, could be for a Dingo.
  21. Hi Mick, That would be right as I was on a course at Plant Roads & Airfields Wing and positive it was 1980. Do you remember a REME Major there named Kemp?
  22. Mike, I recall seeing one in the RAE Museum at Moorebank in 1992, I recognised it as we had one come in REME workshops (in UK) in the late 70's
  23. Thanks Mick, good to know it has survived as that was about 1980 when it went on the plinth!
  24. I wonder if this is the D4 dozer that used to be on a plinth at Wainscott? If it is, I recall working on the steering clutches whilst on a course there, so the retiring CO could drive it on to the plinth.
  25. Roger, I have an army parts list for 1950's Q4 with ohv engine and cylinder head gasket is P80923. The book covers the following chassis numbers; 38A0001 to 38A3499 and 38A5000 to 38A5200 regards, Richard
