  1. Cheers! Will do! Heres a couple of pics I took on my visit to you guys.
  2. For those wondering where the James Watkinson 20ton Constructor ended up a friend of mine chopped it out of a tree in 2015 and then sold it to a chap to restore, unfortunately he decided he wasn't going to be able to complete it so yesterday we went and collected the "Ikea" Constructor assembly kit. Here are the pics: Here are some moving images with sound!
  3. If anyone has one of these and a "Bedford" Willenhall cab for sale please let me know!
  4. Sorry to revive an old thread. I am looking for a FV397698 / 2540-99-873-9916 Towing Eye for my Rubery Owen trailer. Clive would you happen to have any more info or drawings for this specific eye?
  5. Hi Guys, Bit of a thread revival so I apologise. I was discussing armour and making them more reliable for sporadic civilian display use (read: reduced manpower, funding and spares availability) with a friend recently and they mentioned your EFI and Electronic Ignition efforts with the Meteor John, sounded very interesting! When my Explorer was Meadows powered I intended on fitting an electronic ignition system from Megasquirt to help with starting etc. I still have the kit in the shed actually along with the Meadows with the intention of making a running display engine to pop onto an Arrows trailer. Recently I have stumbled across two things that may be of relevance and interest in this thread: First is a company doing Fuel injection conversions on classic cars via a couple of different methods but one of which is a replacement "carb" which has built in sensors, butterly and injector and doesnt detract from the classic appearance of the engine in any great manner www.classicfuelinjection.co.uk The second is a bloke on youtube who has created a device called a "CarbCheater" which is basically a closed loop PWM control of an off the shelf idle control valve from a modern vehicle which adds air to the intake after the carb to lean out the mixture to 14.5/1 accurately. Parts count was about $100 for the circuit board, valve and AFR sensor. He is looking to make it an open source project like Speeduino. Hope this is of interest!
  6. Has any more info surfaced on these since this post started? Ive just picked one up.
  7. They allow you to modernise but needs to be within 10% of the rolling diameter from memory and equal or greater weight and speed rating The rear has rods actuated by a T-16 brake chamber that pull wedges which push rollers out to expand the shoes, the front is the same but has small hydraulic slaves doing the pulling (these are actuated by a master cylinder which is pressurised by a T-16 brake chamber)
  8. they use 8.25x16 tyres on split rims but im looking to convert mine to modern tubeless
  9. My Rubery Owen had an overnight stay at her majesty's pleasure a few years ago because my front axle was unbraked, I had to go back and collect it the following day with the lowloader. Basically the C&U regs say all wheels must be braked and all brakes must work to the required standard.
  10. The data sheet ive seen for the day cab version was just as a 6X4 tractor unit, no winch. (I believe the data sheet was in this thread somewhere?)
  11. David Brown Tractor Club might be the best bet?
  12. Yea I know they didnt run Amazons, just not seen many Crusader/Amazons with single round headlights before I was sent the service pics of mine. Normally see the twin rounds and the civvi squares.
  13. Interesting headlights on that! Similar to mine when it was first in service: Out of curiosity what is the truck behind that Amazon wrecker?
  14. Well shes been under the low loader a few times now... Currently building a Scammell house as the weather hasnt been kind to the Crusader cab or Explorer back body
  15. Just a gentle nudge... Does anyone have that brake info pdf from 2007 handy?
  16. Hi Steve, The Rubery Owen trailers are plated to 5.5ton I believe (after my little road side chat) so without some paperwork and a DVSA headache it wouldn't be legal to tow behind the 110 either unfortunately. The 110 is capable of pulling the weight its just stopping it and controlling it. I have had mine up to 30mph behind my 90 and my 110 and these trailers like to wander behind the tow vehicle but the Land Rover isn't heavy enough to let it wander so the trailer makes the back of the Land Rover wander, not a nice feeling! If you just need to move it once for a short distance then borrow a tractor, more controlled and within your licence entitlements. I am based near Manchester so that would be a long haul for me! But thanks for the offer I will bare it in mind if im down that way.
  17. Hi Steve, Long story short my advice is don't change the brake system!! My living van was modified from standard specification by the previous owner, it had a hitch (poorly) welded on and a master cylinder bolted to a bit of angle iron and bolted to the drawbar... this was pushing fluid into the reservoir port of the air over hydraulic master cylinder so probably didn't do anything useful. For my use behind tractors it was fine as long as you stopped carefully, behind Scammells and ERFs you didnt know it was there. That being said I was stopped for an inspection and the living van has now got a GV9 prohibition on it because the brake system has been modified from standard spec and only braked on the front axle. So I am looking for the parts to put my living van back to standard spec and get the GV9 lifted so it can be used again. As for towing behind a land rover 110, its fine for shunting even without brakes but much above 25-30mph the living van tries to push the 110 side to side in and disconcerting fashion, so I would advise against that too! Sorry this isnt the reply you were looking for but after spending a lot of time and money fixing the damp/leaks and re-insulating my living van I now cant take it anywhere and I wouldnt want another enthusiast to have the same issues. Thanks Nick
  18. I know this thread is almost a decade old, but any info on the brake system of the FV2500 series trailers would be greatly received. My living van is in need of some TLC Also has anyone updated their trailer to tubeless radial tyres?
  19. KBC 116N I bought it off Dave Crouch and he said he had it when it got de-mobbed, heres when Dave had her. Will have to treat her to some better batteries and use the fuel pump cold start in future i think :rotfl: Need to try her under the lowloader when I get the ballast box off.
  20. Well we have sorted the gear linkage out so it shifts nicely now, she still kicks out of top gear like a mule though! Also seems very reluctant to start in this colder weather despite giving her a good lick of cold start... Heres a celebratory pic
  21. my low loader brakes seem more than adequate behind my 4x2 ERF so hopefully no issues behind a 6x4 Scammell heavy hauler with faster diffs lol
  22. If you do get any let me know antar What sort of speed is safe with the hub reductions? Any issues running at modern motorway speeds? My cousin is a truck fitter n every time i mention regearing my new toy to approach more comfortable cruising speeds he gives me grief n says im stupid but ive seen a couple that run quicker with no issues so would like more opinions from those that have, bearing in mind i will be towing a tandem axle king lowloader with an explorer plonked on top lol
  23. Thanks mike so 35 or 65 ton is just a matter of perspective then?
  24. the 35t and 65t business does confuse me to be honest, she is around 61t on the plate. Nice to know a little more of its history, Dave said he put a new engine in it when he had her. Looking at the earlier posts in the thread from the lad with the "RoadHaus" crusader the 5.5 ring and pinions seem to be the way to go when I have some time and money!
  25. I believe she was a 65ton tank transporter which Dave Crouch converted to take smaller 2" fifth wheel and lowered the arches and strap box to suit. She only does 40 mph and the ballast box is just sat on the fifth wheel, shes still capable of towing a trailer.
