  1. At long last I have buried an armoured cable to supply mains power to where the Ferret is parked on the front grass. A 24 volt electric buggy charger from ebay with an interstart socket on the end and we are in business!!! No more flat batteries
  2. I have had my Ferret 2/4 for several months now and derived much pleasure from it. Changing a fluid flywheel oil seal when it started leaking soon after I bought it, was the cause of a great couple of days in the workshop (Thanks John). Everyone I spoke to warned me about a mysterious disease called 'Ferret Finger'. Who would be daft enough to catch their fingers ina hatch???? I wasn't even in it at the time but a friend was looking at it from inside and going faster than my instructions. He dropped the hatch and I stuck my hand out as a reflex. Wrong thing to do  Note to self, let them break their fingers. I have got off lightly with a bit of blood and two sausages, fortunately no breaks. F*** me, did it hurt though.
  3. Fred, I would start (snigger) by looking at the batteries as it is the easiest job to do. Where are you? as I have a spare heavy duty 12v you can use to isolate yours. I'm in Maidstone and can pop over one evening if you are not too far away. Dave
  4. It is a thought. Getting it onto disc would make it easy to copy. The main problem is getting them from him to me......watch this space.
  5. Come on tell all, what are you planning  Something BIG with just a wood bung in the end of it :-D
  6. Thankyou Safariswing......point noted.
  7. I took the advice from an 'old soldier' on here and did a colour photocopy and laminated it. 11 out of 10 police officers would never know the difference :police:
  8. With a B licence you cannot drive anything with a plated or actual weight over 3500kg and having not more than 8 seats. It does not matter how old the vehicle is. For anything else, you need to take another DSA driving test which will include medical, theory test and practical test and get the provisional category put onto your licence. C1 will enable you to drive between 3500 - 7500kg (including any trailer not exceeding 750kg) C will enable you to drive over 7500kg If you are going to take your C1 licence, you may as well take full class C. For towing any trailer exceeding 750kg, you will need to take a trailer test. Hope this helps
  9. FMG :schocked: safariswing, you need a bigger patio.
  10. It may be good but I need new batteries and cant afford both.
  11. Thanks Chris....that explains why it does not fit
  12. Ok then, how much to get, where from and how easy is it to fit. Ta (new Ferret owner) Dave
  13. Does the Sterling SMG take the standard SLR bayonet and/or is part of the deactivation process to cleave the retaining lug so that it will not fit. As that is what looks has been done to mine.
  14. I am hoping to get i writing what Kent firearms require us to do. Word of mouth is that will not be required to carry out full deactivation and certification but that is only one persons opinion
  15. I have spoken to him and he has agreed to let me have them to copy but hey are in Oxford and he is reluctant to post them (understandably) parents will be going up sometime and then I can sort something out. Does anyone have access to a good quality colour copier??
  16. I take it then that if we remove wiring and all firing mechanism then that could suffice if all we are left with is a tube....
  17. I will try to get a copy of the directive but it seems that Firearms liason officers in Kent have been stirred up and it is being taken forward. I have been told first hand that if it can be proved 'smoke only' it will go on section 1......otherwise section 5. (personally, section 1 would be easier for me) I take your point as to obsolete caliber and can you point me in the direction of deac certs not being a legal requirement?? Dave
  18. I need some advice. There is a Home Office directive that has arrived in Kent which states that the smoke discharger tubes fitted to Ferrets etc fall under the Firearms act. Either, they are section 1 firearms if it can be proved that they were only designed to fire smoke, or They are section 5 Firearms (prohibited weapons) if they were designed to fire fragmentation or noxious substance eg CS. This is more serious. This will apply to all owners of AFV's who have these items fitted. Solution 1. Have them removed and deactivated by a section 5 RFD and certified by a proof house. 2. Have them put onto a section 1 firearm certificate, which means that you cannot sell or have your vehicle in the possession of someone who does not have a section 1 Firearm certificate. 3. Put together a case to prove that they are an obsolete caliber and as such are an obsolete weapon. This will probably mean a court case for some poor soul. I need some help in researching this people. Please contact me on david @ sandersonsgarage . co . uk (remove spaces for it to work) Regards to you all Dave
  19. I will try and get them back from him.
  20. Hi Guys, my dad was captain of an LCT on D day and landed the Americans at Omaha beach. My brother still has the original Top secret operation Overlord signal and the original maps of the landings, if anyone wants copies I am sure something can be sorted out. Dave
  21. , so about 45 seconds after arrival should be found somewhere that sells beer. Note to self......'Pack a couple of extra cases of beer'
  22. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions chaps. I have booked for The Hop Farm, so see a few there. Bloody hell, doesn't the little hole where the Browning should be, let in a lot of water when it rains (rueful grin).
  23. Right you lot! Val is my lovely wife, who has put up with me for 6 years but now has doubts about the Ferret. Sirhc - you really are talking to a novice here. What is GCP and where do you suggest breaking into the circuit to put the isolator switch. On a similar theme, where do you suggest putting an electric fuel pump and where can I get a 24 volt one from. Dave
  24. Morning All, I have just bought a Ferret 2/4; which has made Val roll her eyes a bit but she is very understanding. I have got the manual but this is a new venture for me and any advice re keeping batteries charged and gearbox healthy would be greatly appreciated. I am in Maidstone, Kent.
