  1. Hello Brendan Good to hear you on here mate and good to hear of another T soon to be on the road in Essex, Did you ever have any joy with my old Hercules?. Dave Griffin Diamond T 981 Land Rover 110 gs Land Rover 101 gs
  2. Nice colour schemes Les, whether it`s dark green or bright yellow the T always seems to draw a crowd at shows. I suupose it must have been the same when they worked hard for a living. Dave Diamond T 981 Land Rover 101 GS Land Rover 110 GS
  3. If Gordon Brown is going, whats going to be on his expenses sheet? I`m glad they call him prime minister, to call him a leader implies that someone, somewhere will follow him. Wherever you go to remember the greatest invasion of all time, the only people that count are the veterans, there story told in blood and tears didn`t need a spin doctor. They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM When you go from here tell them of us and say For your tomorrow we gave our today. Respectfully Dave
  4. When i said the Bedford cab, i was referring to the red wrecker Tony spoke about. The picture posted By chevpol shows another good looking conversion though. Does anyone know about the Leyland marathon cabbed 981 in Les`s book? Dave Diamond T981 Land Rover 101GS
  5. Looks like a Bedford cab to me. Dave. Diamond T 981 Land Rover 101 GS
  6. I don`t want to see jeeps excluded from the convoys but OP BOLERO was billed as a heavy truck event, a fact i pointed out to someone who moaned about the Diamond T`s lack of speed. What about giving the jeep owners the option of a convoy of their own? especially if the distances are creeping up. Anothher observation where a jeep can go anywhere, some of the vehicles booking in are going to need a lot of help on some of the junctions, It was bad enough in the T but at least i didn`t have a trailer on. wherever we go i`m sure it will be a great event, Roll on 2010! Dave Diamond T 981 Land Rover 101 GS
  7. I`d vote for the lancaster any day, Second to that would be a Cent ARV towing uphill on the governor. Either of these will make what little hair i have left stand on end. Dave Griffin Diamond T 981 Land Rover 101
  8. Is it an emergency stop? Could it be reversing really fast? Dave 101 GS Diamond T 981
  9. Hello Clive, My wallet has just about recovered from last time, Book in 1 x Diamond T 981 for 2010 If spaces are limited to 100 vehicles you are going to be a very busy boy once word gets out! Dave Diamond T 981 Land Rover 101 gs
  10. Even with the Rolls Engine he must have been going downhill if he was doing 45 ish!
  11. You should have come and said hello, Nick. NVS 144 is my Diamond T 981 and as you can probably see has the Rolls Royce C6 under the bonnet, the Italian one hails from the Braintree area and has the supercharged Detroit diesel, If the latter ever makes it onto the road that will be the 7th roadworthy example that i know of to grace the roads in Essex. I`m sure there are probably more in hiding. Imagine a convoy of 7 of these running together! Dave
  12. I thought about doing that as my "Rolls" bonnets are a bit scruffy and i`ve a set of good "Hercules" bonnets sitting spare. It`s not just the air filters which are different, the area on the near side inner wheel arch is a completely different shape. I know anything is possible but i mistakenly thought it was just a spnanner job. As many wise men say " If it ain`t broke, don`t fix it. Dave
  13. Here`s another T for your collection Many more and Halfords will start doing a range of crap accessories for them! Dave
  14. As another Diamond T 981 driver, albeit a faster Rolls-royce engined one, i never seem to be amazed by other drivers and their habit of overtaking you on a blind bend and then slowing down to see what they have overtaken. I made up a detatchable light -board which hangs over the rear tailboard and plugs into a hidden socket, with a beacon and a "slow-moving" sign. It works really well and even on a busy road like the A12 traffic gets out from behind me with loads of space and time. As for putting a beacon on the roof i find that because so many vehicles (transits included) have them they seem to be ignored, i have a magnetic one which sits on the front bumper and that seems to slow traffic down better for me. My little round mirrors are great for show authenticity but you need some bigger things if you do many miles on the road, The spare wheel is a massive blind spot on a T. The best wisdom for road driving is pick your route and pick your times Happy T driving. Dave
  15. Hello Les

I just thought i would introduce myself to you, Having read your book on The Diamond T, We are clearly both obsessed by the things.

I haven`t written any books (yet) and i`m no expert when it comes to pc`s.

    That said i own a Diamond T 981 ( no 0974) which i`ve restored with a friends help and i`ve also got what`s left of an ex-italian 980.

I haven`t found out much history yet, that`s my next project.

As for me i`m an ex-REME Recovery mechanic who is convinced that older is usually better.

    regards

    Dave Griffin (Essex)

  16. I`ve got the book you mentioned Les. I`ve told my missus i want to be buried with it so i can finally read it in peace! two questions, 1. If you`ve got loads more Diamond T stuff will there be a second book? 2. Have you got any pictures of my 981 reg no 22YZ27? Dave
  17. A better solution for fuel economy would be to put the WLF behind the 109. Even if you had to double or even triple head it,
  18. About 5 years ago we had a gathering of 101
  19. Group H ticket or not, does does anyone know about speed limits for tracked vehicles on public roads? A Samson will belt along at well over 50 mph if you let it. The trouble is live track can fail and come apart and the consequences are truly brown -trouser stuff. I never had a track off but a rear idler cracked all the webs on the outer rim once and had i not seen it as i hooked up a scimitar i would have carried on until it fell apart. Anyone who drives a tank on the road will remember it forever but please remember it for the right reasons. Be careful!
  20. So as well as the oil change or nipping up that wheel bearing there`s going to be a real shortage of wiper motor spares in suffolk. Never mind the weather, It was only Anji`s second time camping and she`s ready for round 2. Moral of the story, if you need your missus to appreciate comfort, take her away for the weekend in a Diamond T.
