  1. Sounds like the Diamond T is going to be in need of lots of fuel this summer. If the modern day USAF are interested perhaps we should go to Lakenheath and fill up at their on-base station. If i could i would convoy all day , every day but i my wallet, which isn`t well known for it`s open-ness is already is already in a cold sweat just thinking about it. Me and Anji will be along at some point during the event. One early request from an ardent fashion statement (yes me) can we have a different colour T-shirt this time my wardrobe is still full of navy blue ones.
  2. I`ve got a Diamond T ballast box which is in the way, it was taken off an ex-italian army T. It`s complete with tailgate but this has been backed into something and bent. The ballast box itself is undamaged and would only need re-painting. stowage boxes are in good nick. It doesn`t have a pendulum fitted. i`d rather someone give me scrap value and use it rather than see it cut up. Any takers?????????? I can get some photo`s if needed.
  3. Would all vehicles participating in this event have to be covered in pink ribbons or is that just for barleylands? wish i`d taken some piccies.
  4. I had the batus foden for med man 6+7 in `92. when i first checked her over we could turn "on a dime" to the left but you needed all of alberta to turn to the right. into the workshops and a guy called jerry had it re built in a couple of days. transfer box gave up soon after that. Every time we came back into camp it was a quick wash down and into the servicing bay the batus truck really worked hard, 10,000 acres of the best off roading i`ve ever seen meant that the winch oil hardly ever ran cold. I think the foden was a fantastic machine but by god it earned its keep out there. good to see one being restored, i`ve got the ispl for it if you are interested. good luck with it
  5. I`ve seen several cab conversions but i don`t know what to make of this one. in fact the cab is the only nice bit. A lot of people use the phrase saved from the scrap yard, i think this one needs putting out of it`s misery. France eh!
  6. Why do i enjoy these events in norfolk and suffolk so much.?..... simple ,you`d get lynched if you tried it here in essex. another fantastic weekend clive, thanks to you and your team. it was good to put some names to faces at last. the weather, low-loader hire and 4 mpg might try and put us off but bring on the next bolero. thanks to everyone who was there.
  7. 10 mph , that`s about 8th or 9th gear then.
  8. Fantastic.............. Owing to a complete shut down at colchester fuel injection, the Diamond T now requires a different mix of fuel not used since the V2 last flew, approximate costs for the weekend are £20,000, Please send the cheque to the usual address.
  9. Morning Clive I`ll have an XL and a L please. Incidentally i`ve got my fuel pump back, i`m off to put it on in a minute. Fingers crossed time. see you in a fortnight Dave Griffin
  10. sorry, can you prove that you`re over 18?
  11. Already tried that, i swore at it and said "if you won`t behave then bugger off so i can get a scammell in the shed" next nut, the spanner slipped and she drew blood, (mine of course). i swear these bloody things are human, if i stick a trailer on the back it drives like a dream, take it off and it`s like a stallion on viagra. Mention a scammell or a DUKW and there are tears (normally of gear oil) Mention that her widest point is her back end and she goes absolutely loopy, give her a slap and she loves it. Hang on, am i still on the right forum???????? more positive waves man.
  12. shut up ,shut up please! one mention of a GMC with a slight head cold and my Diamond T comes up with man-flu. The lift pump is playing up , 4 little 3/8 nuts, 2 of which are so close to the bottom plate you can`t get a socket or a spanner on them means i had to take the fuel injection pump off. I ain`t doing that again so the planned pump overhaul has been brought forward 6 months. morals of this story are; just because it says Rolls Royce doesn`t mean it`s any easier to work on than a robin reliant. Big hands don`t fit into little gaps. Swearing at it and looking at it hoping it will miraculously fix itself doesn`t work. If one of your trucks breaks down don`t let the others know or they come out in sympathy for it. It`s all in hands of Colchester Fuel injection for now. knock it off with them negative waves moriarity, we`ll be there¬!
  13. Does anyone know where i can get hold of oil and fuel filters for the Rolls Royce C6 NFL in my Diamond T. I`ve tried a few numbers but not having any joy. Any help gratefully recieved.
  14. Rather than change the name and codeword so as not to offend anyone why don`t they just bleep it out? Perhaps we could have a blinged up chav labrador (or pit bull). tons of jewellery, ASBO, eminem haircut and trousers only just covering its backside. then the original name would have street cred. We`ve got a campaign for racial equality but why can`t we have a campaign for historical accuracy? I`m sticking with the old black and white film,,,, i`m sorry , am i allowed to call it that?
  15. Sorry to let the team down but i have to be realistic here. 3 days work lost (not including the weekend) + 2 for travelling + low-loader hire (roughly 180 miles each way) puts this event out of my reach, not solely on cost but work commitments as well. some might say it wouldn`t be worth attending for just the weekend and i would probably agree with them but it`s the having to attend for the whole 5 days which is killing it for me. i hope those of you who can attend have a fantastic event, i would certainly be interested in the dvd,
  16. Surely the Warrior must be a contender here, i seem to recall the early ones were fitted with the Rolls Royce CV8 but twin turbos pushing out around 830bhp, Then some spoilsport who has obviously never been on the sharp end of enemy fire decided to down rate them to 550 bhp. they were fast cross country as well, the only real problem was the plastic fuel tank through which you could watch the fuel sloshing around making the troops in the back sick as hell.
  17. Like most of us out there i`m getting a tad worried about fuel costs for the trip to Dorset. My original guesstimate of 180 miles each way at 5mpg adds up to roughly £450.00 on fuel alone. I know that low-loaders need lots of juice too but does anyone know of a low-loader with enough room for my 981 ie 1/2 his load bed empty who is likely to go over the Dartford bridge on route. Maybe i could meet him in thurrock services and hitch a ride, splitting the fuel costs. Even if it was only one way it would be a start.
  18. Someone looking at my Diamond T once asked does it run? I just looked round and said no i pushed it here actually.

  20. You aren`t being thick! don`t panic. Mod seem to have "crown immunity" from most rules regarding vehicle use. Plenty of knowledge and experience on here though. Good luck with it.
  21. I would like to put my T 22 YZ 27 / NVS 144 on the reigister but i can`t get on to your link page. What am i doing wrong? Any help gratefully recieved.
  22. I have a couple of detatchable arms which drop into sockets on the front bumper corners, this way i have some half sensible wide view mirrors for driving, 30 seconds later we are back to original spec tiny ones. I find that the bigger mirrors would need to be about 18" wider than the truck to see what is behind you but they do show what is coming up beside you. The little ones are handy as i can see over the stowage box in the ballast box and see a long way back behind me. Close up behind is a total blind spot but this is not a problem once i hit the throttle and show that i don`t have emission controls. I think i have been overtaken BY a bicycle more often than the other way round. The story of the hare and tortoise always comes to mind when i`m out in my T.
  23. Wynns obviously get credit for some serious abnormal load haulage but their workshop blokes seem to go un-noticed. As well as re Cabbing the Diamond T`s to their own spec, look what they did to the pacifics, From what i`ve read a wynns pacific was probably as good as an early constructor and no doubt a lot cheaper.
  24. Wasn`t 3630 DW an ex- wynns Diamond T? if it was there would be plenty of history.
  25. So there seems to be support from Dorset. What we could do with is some more interested owners. Perhaps they`re all waiting to see what they get for xmas!
