  1. Thanks for the replies useful stuff it all helps, I had a couple of hours on it tonight and checked in the side gear cases and all looks good from the filler plug view, the brake linkages are solid around the back axle area but managed to get the bolts out of the arm that goes into the back plate and then tapped the arms further towards the off position, I did have the brakes adjusted up well when I was driving it on the road but it was a long time ago, my brother thinks it has not moved for 30 years, I cannot remember to be honest. Next chance I get I will see if it will roll a bit and then cut the bramble hedge on the front!
  2. After many years I have dragged the 1943 Pioneer out of its hiding place in the hedge, the back wheels are locked solid, its in neutral, the transmission brake is loose on its drum, the footbrake levers are in the off position my guess is the weather has got in the drums and seized the shoes to the drums, any thoughts on how to free them off and get it rolling? If the engine is still ok I have someone interested in taking this major project on otherwise a couple more years of weather will finish it off. Its been so long I cannot remember when I reversed it into a clear spot and then nature took over! Murray.
  3. Hello to all on HMVF, I have posted a few times years ago and I see I should now introduce myself first! I have varied interests in the heritage sector including military items, I hope to frequent the site a bit more these days and will spend some time reading up on threads that interest me. Bye for now Vin.
  4. You are right sight not site but both of them are rough!!! LOL.
  5. Hi to all, as requested some images of it all, not a pretty site is it buy may help identify exactly.
  6. Hi to all, Thanks for the replies, unfortunately no front end as it had been converted into a trailer years ago, looking at an image of a WOT3 on this site today the R/Rear axle looks the same so I think a WOT1 sounds like a fair bet, interesting to hear about the County option, i presume these were conversions done after the war? Any links to WOT1 images appreciated as i have only found a few and mainly fire trucks. For the future, not much chance of myself doing anything with it as i have too many other projects on the go so I would gladly pass it on to anybody that needs it but looking on the net I cannot see many of them around. Regards the salvager!
  7. Hi, I saved this old ex army lorry from the gas axe last week, I saw it being dragged out of a wood where it had been a gamekeepers store for many years, it had been cut of and made into a trailer, it did have a body on the back on but it was smashed up just before I saw it so I dont know exactly what it looked like, it has 2 back axles so it was either a 6x4 or 6x6, the tyres are fairly small 10.50x16 and one has a brand which seems to be 1941, the only detail I can see is on the forward rear diff where it has cast 6 40 and NSF. I would like to identify it as it has a great design of suspension which I am still used to in oilfield trucks for desert locations and I also like the covered drive propshaft design. Surpisingly it towed ok after all the years it sat in the woods, good old engineering, I would appreciate knowing what it is and seeing an image of the original type. Thanks for any help given, regards, M.
  8. Hi to all at HMVF, I have varied interests in the world of collecting and restoring anything old but the reason I have joined up now is because I have just saved a lorry back end from the scrap mans gas axe and it is ex military around WW2 I would say and I hope some one may need it as it seemed a shame to just see it junked, I will post a thread with pictures. Happy days, Murray.
