  1. HI all, i have just spent the winter rebulding my mk1, when the engine was on the floor i had it running for a few mins,to check everthing was ok, put the engine in. And carried on with the rebuild when it came to starting the engine when almost finished, the engine would only run when cranking,on checking i lost 24v at the distributor, the problem was a bad connection at the round multi plug under the ignition switch panel. It took me a long time to find but a few seconds to fix, i can not remember the wires concerned but if you look at a wiring diagram you should be able to work it out. Hope this helps ROB.
  2. I own a mk1 and mk2/3, Which is the better ? this is a personal choice, myself i prefer the mk2 with a bit of tube sticking out:cool2:

  5. At the bottom of the gear lever there may be 2 springs or a selector plate which on civy discos/defenders do break, very obvious if they are. normally the lever goes striaght into the box not via linkage. regards, Rob
  6. You can have them bench tested, for a fee,but they normaly say they are u/s,just to get the work:( regards rob.
  7. If a mask or blind is fitted to the glass, this will pass the test, a pass and advise. For a small fee you can ask the tester to do it for you. Rob.
  8. Forgot to say, check, replace air filter and fuel filter, these are the basics rob.
  9. For a low budget clean,if there is no problem with injectors or system, you can use diesel injection cleaner which you just add into the fuel tank or if replacing the fuel filter put in the filter housing. You can buy this from most motor factors, some makes are wynns, comma, forte. The expensive method is remove injectors send away for cleaning/recon. Hope this helps rob.
  10. Park vehicle approx 4yards from a wall or garage doors, switch on dipped beam, observe which way the 15 degree line or called kick up line points to,this kick up line needs to be straight, using a card or ruler place over the lamp, moving the card you wii make the pattern straight, once this is done use gaffer or insulation tape.this then should pass the test, the tester will note on the advice sheet headlamp masks were fitted,or buy british spec headlamps,i hope i have explained this ok. Regards rob.

  13. I understand it is a bit of a pig of a job, check battery/connections first, check voltage supply at starter motor, should be approx 12volts for a 12 volt system,24v for a 24 volt system approx, you could try tapping the starter just in case it is stuck, try the easy things first. regards rob.
