  1. Andy If you need any sprockets or cross shaft pressing on-off etc get in touch. Fairbairn Sykes
  2. Here is a list of a site with a few Army Items including an 8R D8 that I was involved in a total re-build, its about as factory fresh as you can find, bostonpowercat.com will get you there with photo and video shots of some interesting iron in the owners collection, I have done plenty of work on these old D8's over the last few years as there is still a good following for the 8R-2U series tractors, I hope you find it interesting. Fairbairn Sykes
  3. Richard, you are bang on the mark regards the crates (empty that is) the now owner told me his Grandad collected the packing chests from the Camp F.O.C. with just a small drink being pressed into the hand of him that knows stuff, plus the fact that they later bought a few Jeeps as they were sold off to use around their Farm, I can recall a Farm at Strensham (near the M5 J8) using a Jeep engine to keep open the Farm Gate upto at least the mid 1990's, the engine had turned into a brown mass but it was totaly complete with Carb and plugs etc. Fairbairn Sykes
  4. Its not a Jeep in a crate I know but the other day I was working in a Barn that was lined out with Jeep crates, the markings are clear to see and there was dates etc stamped on the panels, this barn is about 2 miles from the Welland Show Ground, I did ask if there was any still with the iron bit inside?? Fairbairn Sykes
  5. I, also look forward to a few pictures of the Beast JT. Fairbairn Sykes
  6. Smithy, mike told me this morning that the old No plate is hanging up some place in his Garage, the No was kept by Praills (But never re-registered to any Vehical) so mike took an age related plate to keep things looking sweet, in the petrol sales area under the counter is a WLF service and parts manual, plus it would now seem that the "Ward" is never to be used again, mike has a Bedford TM on main line winch duty that is working a"Blinder", so now the WLF is not used for "owt" just parked snoozing??? Fairbairn Sykes p.s. I used to have a DT980 up to a few years ago, I still have odd bits for em' plus service and parts books dumped in mountains of other stuff not needed.
  7. Smithy, Mike Panes banger is the Praills of Hereford WLF, you have to agree about the best looking recovery/winch truck claim, I can ask about the No plate thing if you are interested, Praills had the Perkins dealership in the area, that would explain the V8 Perkins under the hood, there is/was some other WLF pieces snoozing in the corner of the yard as well. Fairbairn Sykes
  8. That last few pic's show a WLF that is still in constant working use winching-recovering etc, it was fitted with a V8 Perkins motor by the Hereford based Garage, but has been used by Regal Garage Upton upon Severn for a good few years, its often rated as the best looking winching outfit working in the U.K. lucky for me I live about a mile from it and class it as local Treasure, I fill my Jeep up with petrol at this Garage, it makes passing traffic think they are in ether a time warp, or in hill billy land. Fairbairn Sykes
  9. On the D6 I.D. if you cannot read the data plat on the left/rear of the engine block or the top left hand of the back case, the number is also stamped under the plate, so remove the plate located with small hit in fasteners to find No stamped in case.
  10. Leyland 690T with 419 hours on the clock for sale in Lancashire, 07773171348. it would seem to be screwed to a water pump, but can be run and tested, the asking $ is £750. its not mine I just copied the Add from a current mag, hope its of some help. Fairbairn Sykes
  11. Thank you for your info, this Scammell that is for sale looks nothing like the standard Crusader spec, I did expect the military spec to be better, but this old chariot is a fair chunk of iron, the cab has been repaired to the highest standard, and is a credit to the lad that set about it, i will be "placing the Tape" on the Chassis rail asap, again thanks for the info. Fairbairn Sykes
  12. Might I ask what the difference is Amazon V Crusader, I used to drive 2 Crusaders, 1 had an 8v71 Detroit motor the other had a 280 R/R, both trucks were double drive, also I know of another Scammell that is for sale, it has a Rotzler winch and a 3"1/2 gimble style plate, but the chassis looks a lot stronger than the Crusader set up, would it be an Amazon, its fitted with a R/R 305 motor, how can you tell the Amazon from the Crusader, as I am realy tempted to have a pop at doing a deal on the banger, I used to have a 980 T upto about 4 years ago, but the Scammell has something that draws me like a moth, with an asking price that fits well with me, I must admit to no knowledge of the Amazon, it looks a bang on bit of Hardwear. Fairbairn Sykes
  13. This tractor looks to me to be a D4C 24A, they have a side mounted donkey start motor hand pulled or a direct electric 24volt start system , they can suffer with cylinder block damage at the point the equalizer beam mounts to the under side of the engine, Birtly blade fitted. Fairbairn Sykes
  14. Big ray and papav, my jeep is not realy a classic military motor, although its covered in " battle scars" it sort of looks the part, that is jeepish??? but its an M38A1 with the standard wheels removed and some fat fandango's poked on in place, it was cheeper for me to buy new wheel and tyre sets than lash out on those hard to find 700 size bits of rubber, I do even use the banger to go to work in sometimes, credit to it its managed 140mile round trips and always performed well, it always gets an amount of people looking at it when I park it in the local high street, if they are young bloods interested I give em a good tour of all its top bits, that is its shovel and convoy lights and get the bonnet up to point at the Carter carb, that is always good to impress em, funny thing is I bought a load of WW2 (I think) bombs the other day, (Totaly safe things) they are big old dogs sort of fork lift size things, perhapse someone local might be interested in a trade/swap. back to my bunker. Fairbairn Sykes what a tag
  15. This is a very interesting site, I love green paint on metal so its just about perfect, I live handy to the M50-M5 at Upton upon Severn, have had a Diamond T 980 and use a jeep as my dust cart to transport my garden doings to the local waste facility, I work as a Heavy Equipment mechanic, also working on trucks, I have worked for myself for 34 years mainly on CAT Cummins Gardner and so on, so nuff said best I take cover. Fairbairn Sykes. p.s. whats in a Name, I think mine is Magic???
