The latest news regarding the EU knee jerk gun law on the "governments" own website is that and I quote " The government cannot change EU law ". This is in answer to the petition which they have REJECTED on the above grounds. They can ask to opt out but are unlikely to do so as Cameron etc seem to agree with the EU (as always). So guys and girls it looks pretty bleak for our hobby, I notice AT LAST that Milweb has posted details on their site, better late than never I suppose. I expect it will soon become law and millions of historically important items ( I will not call them weapons as they clearly are not ) will be lost or mutilated. Sad time for our hobby. I hated the EU before, now it's personal
I can't see any details on milweb?

That side wheel arch panel looks Tilly ?
There are some jeep parts there, prop shaft, shock absorber mount, battery tray.
And at least one British Luvax shock absorber.
Not. Sure on the engine stuff.
Hope this helps, what are you doing with it ?

This is not a standard C8 GS, look at the of centre dash, so must be an Artillery Tractor, with a winch.

Just been looking to get a tin of the paint, don't suppose you know if it would be Mid or Light Brunswick Green? Both seem to look quite similar to what I have left and don't want to get it wrong!
It's Mid Brunswick green.

Happy New Year to all and hope you all have a good one. Don't forget to keep up with those New Years resolutions.:undecided:
Is that ' New Years resolutions' or should it be ' Don't forget to keep up with those New Years Restorations!'
Happy New year to you all, I promise more input on the Morris PU restoration this year!

Lots more taken off and cleaned up etc. over the past week.
Had a closer look at the radiator and it looks pretty bad at the base, not sure how repairable things like this are so any suggestions would be appreciated
Managed to remove the exhaust manifold without any damage, it seems to be pretty well seized onto the inlet manifold but that is something I will sort later along the line.
Rather than taking the whole "cab" to bits I just unbolted it from the chassis and lifted it to the rear of the body where it can remain complete for when I come to work on it.
The engine/gearbox subframe is in a very poor state and I am surprised the engine is still held by it. So next job is to remove the engine and gearbox.
Steering mechanism removed for ease of taking the engine and gearbox out which also revealed a nice bit of paint.
Also removed the engine covers and condition doesnt seem to be too bad so will have to see how it looks when I start taking it to bits.

Martyn, I might be able to help you out with the sub frame, I have one that I am currently using as an engine rebuild stand.
I'll take some photos over Christmas.

The best match for the Morris engine colour is called Brunswick Green, easily available via the net, a lot is sold to stationary engine restorers.

First thing I would check is the fuse in the regulator box, you say you can't get to it ?
That's your first job, if the fuse wire is ok, pull out the fuse and clean the contacts, had a similar problem with my MW, just needed the contacts cleaned.
Regards
Jules
Thanks for your input, guys.To update - oops, had forgotten to polarise the dynamo (in my defence, I have only ever changed one dynamo, and that was around 30 years ago!). I have now done this, but it has not made a difference. Ignition light stays on with engine running at around 1000 - 1200 revs, ammeter sits on zero (it does show a discharge if I put the headlights on), and testing the dynamo output as per the manual, it still shows an output of around 0.5 - 0.6 volts. Strangely, so far the battery does not seem to be going flat. I have checked the dynamo earth with a continuity tester, and this seems ok.
I am still tempted to think that the replacement dynamo is faulty, but obviously there are other possibilities. I can't get in to the regulator to inspect visually, as the vacuum tank for the wipers is in the way and it's now raining, so I have given up for now. Does anyone know how to test the regulator, by the way, as the manual seems rather reticent on this point? As far as I know, however, it I extremely unusual for a regulator to develop a fault.
I would welcome your thoughts.

You have a real challenge there Martyn
Glad to see you have started the strip down, don't forget to take loads of photos as you go.
Did you struggle to get the steering wheel off ?
Cheers

QUOTE=MHillyard;456162]Work has started!
Decided to spend a day getting the majority of the cab off before the bad weather sets in, also gives me something to do in the evenings as work on the Gipsy is becoming more light and weather dependent.
Surprisingly a lot of the bolts came undone with an oily residue on the thread which is promising.
Lots of little parts to store now but at least they wont spoil.

Yes that's interesting, I also doubt that Ford or Willys made Thier own canvas.
But it might be more likely that some 'Tent' maker stencilled Thier name ?

Thanks Robert
That helps

Hi
I have seen a few jeeps with the hood canvas stencilled with the canvas makers mark, usually on the inside back panel.
Is there any evidence that this is authentic? And what was the usual wording ?
Also looking at the shipping stencil, I notice that other US vehicles like dodges, half tracks etc have ' US Shipping port' above the numbers, but not on Jeeps ?
Your thoughts please

Fantastic footage, and once opened leads to more great films like the erection of an 11 set, with a very nice Humber 4x2 PU

Bedford MW Advance & Retard Pipe
in I may be stupid, but......

Richard, originally they were a small brass tube, certainly on the Humber and Morris it is brass, but they were soldered fittings at each end, probably not easy to find these days ........
