  1. Guy, I have got those brackets on the back of my PU cab, I wondered what they were for too, thank you, now I know !
  2. Hi Ivor Yes, you may be right, but I did close it as much as it would and even spraying quick start up the air intake it still refused. So I have started to strip the timing cover off and have a look for those elusive bright links ! I'm hoping that I can do all this without having to take the head off ? Cheers Jules
  3. Thanks Guy Yes your right, I looked for the bright links before and could not be sure there were any! Yes, I think I will have to start again from the book Jules
  4. Yes Jerry I'll consult it later Thanks Jules
  5. Thanks Richard, I hoped you would give a good clear explanation. I thought I marked the sprockets as well but when it came back it was very hard to see. Like you say, sadly I'll have to go back to the beginning. Cheers Jules
  6. So, I thought I was at the stage where i might attempt to fire up the Morris 6 cylinder PU engine. The background, the engine had not run in 50 years, but was free and turned on the crank handle, I removed the head, and the water pump and timing chain cover, I noted where the chain position was and recorded it then removed the generator thus slackening and removing the chain. Next the engine went off to be rebuilt, and came back ready for me to put back together, again I could just see the marks on the chain and hoped I had it right, everything back together and installed back in the chassis. 5 months later brings us to now, so, I have an engine turning on the starter, I have the firing order right and a good spark at each plug. I have fuel & the carb was rebuilt a while a go, it's an updraft soles carb, I have fuel in the carb, but it's not being sucked up into the cylinders, or at least there is no wet plugs, nor have I got the slightest signs of ignition ? So presuming that for some reason that the fuel is not getting to the inlet, tonight I thought I would just try to spray quick start up the air intake, still nothing ! How can this be? I know the basics of how it should work, but the dark art of valve timing baffles me, I almost think I have to start from scratch, Presuming I have the chain on right after all it's like it's not sucking when it should, but even with plenty of quick start and prolonged turning over, still not even a shudder ! I have tried turning the distributor 180 too. Any thoughts ? Jules
  7. Thanks Guys i actually have the gauge and sensor, but someone chopped the tube ! so i'm wondering if someone out there can rebuild it ? Cheers Jules
  8. Lovely job Ian, well done mate, I'll look forward to parking up beside you ! Would be interesting to compare the drive between your Box and my PU.............. Jules
  9. Thanks Ivor I was sure it would be a capillary tube type, but thanks for confirming. I suppose that means that the gauge, tube and thurmostat are one unit? Cheers Jules
  10. Hi I need a wartime Temp gauge or at least the thurmostat end that goes in the rad header tank ? See photo, it appears to need a female threaded fitting, but I presume it has the electrical connections for the wires, or is it a tube ? Any help gratefully apreachated Cheers Jules
  11. Fantastic work Guy, very much the same as my PU and CS8............ Trevor, the reason is that the mounting post protrudes through is that there was the scope to mount a thin rod and ball on it sometimes painted red or white, to help the driver see where the wing was, as vision is very poor, this is also the reason that in most cases the passenger wings are damaged. Jules
  12. Actually I have just realised that I not only need the brass elbow, but I need the long pickup tube that reaches to the bottom of the tank, Maybe this is all one unit ? I have tried Pauk Beck but no good....."... Any help gratefully received Jules
  13. Hi i'm looking for a brass elbow for my drivers fuel tank like the one i have in the photo................. i am wondering if it would be a standard British fitting ? cheers Jules
  14. More progress on the PU One fuel tank repaired and fitted, both tank trays made and fitted. I bought from Frosts the Pur fuel tank sealer, good stuff, it sets like stone, though I have not filled with fuel yet. Just got the passenger side to do. Next I need to make new handbrake rods and fit. Then I can start to refit the cab, which is mostly done. Things I'm still looking for:- Radiator thermostat and capillary ( screws into top of rad) Period Rad temp gauge Exhaust Jules
  15. Larry i think you will find if you dig deep enough through the past threads on here that a few of us have strived to research the right colours, i think 10 years ago, you may be right, but there is so much more knowledge on the subject these days that it is possible to pick out a year date between 1939 - 1945 and find the correct colours and camo scheme to apply. Mike Starmers excellent booklet is a gold mine of info, i have certainly been grateful for Mike's help in finding the right colours for my vehicles. Jules
