  1. SNAP! Just come in from my workshop, after spending 4 hours assembling my C8 screen & I know just what you are talking about Simon ! I will post some pics soon. Jules
  2. Rick When I rebuilt my spare MB engine last year, that block was slightly pitted, so I used a good covering of 'RED' gasket sealer both sides of the gasket. Your an Engineer, is that a bad thing to do ? Jules
  3. Yes, Simon you are right, the one I am (was) after would have to have a female thread as the Rad fitting has the screw thread on the outside, not like the MW/C8 internal thread. However this is all academic now as having just come in from a cold workshop, I have discovered that neither of my rads hold water! so of the rebuild shop & a big bill! Jules
  4. Hi Guys Any one help ? I am well on the way with my second C8 Rebuild, I have two Radiators, one from a C8 and one from a FAT, you would expect them to be the same? well the only differance is the caps. The C8 Rad I was going to use has its cap, but will need re coreing, at £400! So I want to use the FAT one, but it has a different cap, which I do not have, does anyone have a spare ? I will post some pics if that helps. I also have the cowling and surround from the FAT if is of use to anyone. Jules
  5. Thanks Simon, that would be great. I have my metal GS body on my Desert C8, so can get overall measurements from that, but it is the details I am in need of, plank sizes etc. Cheers all Jules
  6. Hi Simon I too will be building a wooden GS body for my 2nd C8, so any info you could give would be greatly appreciated. What about all the metal fittings? Jules
  7. I have been involved in Aviation Archaeology since the early 1980's, in those days it was quite easy to get permission from the MoD, and we dug many sites in Kent with friends and in our local area of Oxfordshire. Things have got more complicated, it is true, but the MoD will only recognise dedicated groups on thier lists, and so are very reluctant to give into individuals. The whole 'searching' for a site has changed over the years, 20 years ago we were able to speek to eye witnesses who were old chaps working on the land during the war, now they have mostly gone and we are having to rely on children of the time with oftain woolly memories. Still it is all good interesting stuff, not knowing what youwill find, if anything! Jules
  8. Hi Rick Well done sounds like you have been busy. I have just finished rebuilding my second engine, and about to blast the chassis, windscreen nearly finished as is cab, so once the engine goes in it should all be pretty quick, I might even catch up with you! Anyway going back to the master cylinder problem, mine on my first one weeps slightly although i fitted a new overhaul kit, the bore was very slightly pitted, it is not too much of a problem, i keep the cylinder full and it losses very little. however I expect this would be an MoT fail? My second Master Cylinder for this project is also pited, a rebore by Powertrack would cost £180 ! So I thought I would buy one of those new old stock later Morris MC's from John Walker. all very nice but a real head scratcher to fit, not to mention getting the right male fittings to go on the pipe ends! The MC that you and I have & are original to our 1944 C8's are the same as the 3 1/2 Ltr Blower Bentleys, so hence the cost! By the way after blasting my Radiator hose, I to have holes in it so am also faced with making that odd pipe! Jules
  9. Thanks John, that would be great. Thats the trouble with stripping things down years before you come to restore them!
  10. Hi Guys Can anyone help me with a second 'Pin for oil pipe connection', it is the bolt that goes through the oil pipe banjo, one for the inlet and one outlet, they are both the same. It goes on the Oil Filter Pot at the back of the Engine I seem to have lost one! Here's a photo of one. Cheers Jules
  11. The Whole 'MoT Exemption' issue is very misleading, I have a 15cwt Morris C8 which I was led to believe was MoT Exempt until I went to tax it, only to be told at the post Office 'that no road going vehicle is mot exempt'! I know this is the wrong forum, but what about a list of MV's that would be exempt ? could someone do this? Jules
  12. Why are you selling your C8 ? I might be interested, what state is it in ? Jules
  13. Rick, My Rad was sat on several 1/4 inch rubber pads to lift it to the right height. J.
  14. Thanks for the re cap. I got my Driving Licence in 1982, so should be alright then, also with it being Historic & not totally tracked should clear me?
  15. No, it was sold to the first visitor within a week! He had a bargin there I think. If you do the Desert thing next year, let me know and I will bring my C8. Jules
  16. Hi Simon, not 'of the time' but I took these photos at Trucks & Troops. Jules
  17. I have recently been told that I should not be driving my M3 on a car licence. I understand that the permitted weight limit is 7.5 tons, but my M3 is near 9 tons, Am I able to drive it as it is 'Historical' ? Any suggestions ? Cheers Jules
  18. Having re read the act, there is a loop hole, under 'permitted activities', 'If it is shown that the purpose of making the imitation firearm in question available for one or more of the purposes specified paragraph 2 , ' THE PURPOSE OF DISPLAY AT A PERMITTED EVENT'.......................................... There we are, however I did try to contact the guys at Relics.com this morning to ask their opinion, only to find their web site was not available? Jules
  19. In reply to the MV debate, I was very proud this year to be asked by our local RBL organiser if I would drive my GPW in the Parade, I was very pleased to help a 90 year old D Day Vet into the dicky seat, where he sat, medals polished and very pleased to be leading the parade. If It wasn't for my little GP he would not have been able to walk the course. It was an honour for me to help. Jules
  20. Today, I was in a department store in Oxford, and saw a damn good toy Colt 45 @ £4.99 OK, it was plastic, but a coat of realistic paint and..................now thats a replica! OK, I am getting deep here, Surely to be a replica of something, it has got to be the same as the original, so it should fire if that is what the original or pattern does................so if it is made from wood and can not do what the original does, it can not be a REPLICA ? I know I do not need to convince you guys, but any thoughts? Jules
  21. Can anyone tell me why is ok to sell REAL weapons but not Replica (toy) ones? I was very supprised recently to be told that I can not advertise for sale, a cluster of MDF & steel tubing made to look slightly like a .30 Cal machine gun, yet it is ok to sell the real thing live, (if you hold a ticket) or a Deact. to anyone? Surely if you can only hit someone over the head with a replica or a deact, I know which I would prefer! Jules
