Probably not his fault,exactly the same thing is happening in this reply and has happened to me previously.I have had to go back through the post and re-space it,this happens intermittently but only on HMVF.
Regarding the insurance side of things, check the small print in the policy. Mine states that the vehicle is not insured against theft if it doesn't have an ignition key type switch.
Ian to give you an idea of repair costs we would charge £15-£20 per journal depending on width to regrind a crankshaft plus the cost of new shells subject of course to the inevitable VAT.
If you're looking for a Disco 300Tdi auto to do a transplant I know of a good runner still on the road £650. The vehicle itself is still in test but runs out soon and would require a lot of welding to keep on the road.
