  1. I was given this old box a year ago by an old Soldiers son. He said his dad used this during WW2. I'm guessing an old ammo box but not sure. George
  2. Hi Mike. Your wife is right. ROF moved a mile closer to me in Washington. They build on the old Dunlop Tyres site. The good thing about Dunlop closing was that all the old seats and tables from their social club were donated to a local classic car restoration/storage club. Thanks for the regards, all our Northeast MV clubs are doing well and growing. Cheers, George
  3. Thank you people. Mike, the ROF at Birtley is 2 miles from me. I wonder if they'd mind me raking about there?
  4. Since I placed this thread, I've had a couple of very generous offers for the blue thing and the Tank transporter c/w Tank. Not being a collector, I didn't know there was such an interest.
  5. Thank you very much lads. I was thinking it must be a Star Wars sort of thing! Time to turn it green again. The Centurians have nazi cross's on them and the rest have terrible paint jobs, so a strip down and repaint will be done. I don't plan on selling them so a repaint won't affect their value to me. Cheers, George
  6. I've just been given these Dinki cars which were heading for the bin. I know what they all are except that Blue Armoured Command vehicle. Did it really exist? Whose army and what era would it have belong to? Thanks, George
  7. As an ex Ferret driver I was really interested in this Ferret. Apart from the paintwork, it looks a good straight vehicle. Here's another photo before my phone died.
  8. What part of the world would this Ferret cammo scheme be used? For those not in the know, it is ..............Gateshead! Spotted today near the Team Valley,Gateshead. I had to go and take a closer look incase I imagined it. It is soon to be painted bright yellow all over by the owners of a car leasing company. The other vehicle used to be in a field next to the A19. Please, someone rescue them or they'll never get into MV heaven.
  9. I can answer my own question now and confirm what Blackpowder44 (John) said. Yes, Corgi's were used by the Royal Signals Motorbike Display Team (The White Helmets) and were used by the Royal Marines motorbike display team too. They kept their civvy colours. This is confirmed by photographic evidence in the book "From Welbike to Corgi" by Peter Miller, an excellent book! Peter also confirms in the book and by recent e-mail to me that 10 were purchased by the Royal Navy for Aircraft Carrier and/or Naval dockyard use and that they would have been painted gray. There is also a photo of Corgi's being used by RAF and U.S Air Force personnel during a joint exercise in the 1950's. Peter has told me that they might have been supplied for evaluation only and may not have been bought. These would have kept their civvy colours also. The photo in my attachment showing a Corgi in the Canadian War Museum is wrong. The Curator/Archivist Colin Stevens confirmed to me that he took the photo but the museum should have added a note to the display that the Corgi was representing a Welbike. So, if you want to have your bike representing the army you should keep it in civvy colours. If representing the Royal Navy you can paint it gray. Or, seeing that it's your bike, paint it any bloody colour you want! Update 31/01/11 Below is a message from Geoff Fletcher of the Military Vehicle Trust. "I checked my post-1949 records and that contract did not pop up. However my records do not include Royal Navy vehicles so if they were purchased by the Admiralty I cannot help. I have checked the contract cards for Brockhouse held at the Tank Museum for other reasons recently and the card for this contract was not there." Thanks again Geoff at the MVT. Does anyone have Admiralty contracts sources?
  10. Hi. Is anyone up on contract numbers? An article I have received states that Brockhouse Corgi's were purchased by the Armed forces. The contract number is "6/Veh./6503". This request is also in another thread "Brockhouse Corgi in military service" See attached Thanks, George
  11. Just received this paper that states Corgi's were purchased by the armed forces. This may confirm what Blackpowder44 (John) wrote. Contract number 6/veh./6503. Does anyone know about these contract numbers and have more info? See attached, Thanks, George P.S. Thanks to Foxy from Yorkshire MVT for the info!
  12. Centurian (user name) used to work at Otterburn ranges. He might have some photos/info etc.
  13. Thanks John for confirming what I knew. Would you have a photo of that bike on the Carrier? So, did any Corgi's serve with the U.S. forces post WW2?
  14. Hi Guys. I need to know if Brockhouse Corgi's were used in military service either by the Brits or the U.S. As they were built after WW2 and succeeded the Welbike, did the Corgi or the U.S version (Indian Papoose) serve in the Korean war or any other war? I've only came across one site that states they were used by maintanence sections on Air bases. Does anyone have any futher evidence, photo's etc. Thanks, George
  15. Could you please tell me the official colours of the RAOC decal early 70's. Your help always appreciated. George
  16. My B vehicle data card has a section called "Unit Code." There are three seperate codes which are CA219A, CA212A and CA274A. I already know that my Landrover was with the RAOC (BAOR), I'm just trying to workout what each section means on the card. Thanks, George
  17. Hi Jasper and thanks. I'll check out those marking sites and revise my decals. Your info will be a great help to others too. Nice to know what goes on in these units. Thanks again mate! George P.S. Moderators, Does this lad deserve a stripe?
  18. Hi Jasper. No problem mate, it was a lot too ask. I'll be creative and make up some RAOC decals etc. Was this vehicle depot a vehicle workshop like a big LAD detachment, vehicle pool etc? Sorry, don't know enough about this type of unit. I've made a couple of badges that I was going to have made into decals for the vehicle. Would these be in any way accurate? See Below. Thanks George
  19. Hi Jasper, just the man I was looking for! My Lightweight (52 FL 08) was based at Bielefeld then Recklinghausen with 1st British Corp Vehicle Coy in the 70's and 80's. Asking a lot but have you any memories of it or any photos of the vehicles there? I am trying to return the vehicle to it's correct markings. Anything would help. "B" vehicle data card attached. Thanks. George
  20. Hi Steve and welcome. Do spare parts come easy for BRDM's? George
  21. Hi Matt. I was a member of the Queens Own Yeomanry for 7 years. I might even have drove (badly) your Ferret. It was/is an armoured recce regiment. Your Ferret could have served with either HQ squadron Newcastle Upon Tyne, or "D" squadron, Cramlington, Tyne and Wear, or "Y" squadron York, or "?" squadron Chester or even the Ayrshire squadron based in Scotland. Check you maps. Sorry cannot remember all the squadron prefixs. My squadron, either HQ or D squadron, always put maintenance first. Check out the Queens Own Yeomanry/Northumberland Hussars on the net. George P.S. Just seen the vehicle data card, it was passed around the QOY squadrons and lastly NH squadron. It was green when we last had it. Lugershall is Germany
