Near the start of the thread , I mentioned I had a 5l container of 'Ultra' type , purchased in error . Did not use because it is not spirit based (it is water based). This is in fact what you mention - the improved version by Thompsons , I understand it has better penetration on stone / clay bricks (abt. 10mm) However to penetrate cotton fibres esp. if there is still wax dressing contamination - then it takes a spirit carrier..
Thats very interesting, the canvas I used it on was pretty old and probably had no dressing left, which is probably why it worked. So maybe not an option on better canvases!

Dude - you really shouldn't keep your kids in a rabbit hutch! :-)
You ain't met my kids!!!

If found - peel off and stick on the nearest COSCO ISO container being returned to China..... Let the buggers track THAT!! :-D
Hahahahahha

I have used thompsons waterseal in the past and it has been effective. Try not to get it on glass or plastic Windows as it leaves marks that are a bu99er to get off.
the new "improved" version of thompsons no longer states canvas, but I put some on an old canvas that covers the kids rabbit hutch two or three years ago and it's been fine.

Both these links look dead -- they actually go to some spam-looking website that creates other ad morphing pages...
a quick google search for "Daimler ferret" brings andys site up close to top

I am fairly sure that despite the anonymous forum name that it is Andrew Baker's Challenger.
Robin
robin,
i think ink you may be right, and was probably what m109a3uk was getting at with tanks trucks and firepower coming up. Great show and I am looking forward to it even though it's a 100 mile+ drive each way in the ferret 😁

It states on the website that it is fine to just turn up and they will accomidate you,
Yes, last year I attended and my brother turned up not booked in and he was allowed in. They are a very friendly and laid back show...well worth attending.
I will be getting there Friday evening.
-
I was down to attend, all packed and then my wife fell ill so could not stay overnight.
I did attend as a punter on the Saturday and it was a great show, hopefully I will make a better effort next year!

I finally sourced the rubbers, well actually Graham at www.makanosurplus.co.uk went above and beyond to get them from one of his sources!!!
my next question is, when putting them back together, do I just snug the castelated nut at the bottom line f the ball pin up tight, or does anyone recommend a torque setting for it? I cannot find anything specific in any of my manuals.
thanks,
mick

Can I also do the same, I can scan in the entry and email to you?

I think it's the sellers placing their adverts in the military vehicle section on ebay?
-
The hop farm may be very busy and that's the only date in the show season they could get?
-
Thanks Chris, I did look at that website and they appear to have the ball listed but not the seal etc.
i will give them a call tomorrow.
have you ever replaced the seals? There must be something standard off the shelf that would do the job?

Does anyone know of another source for Ferret parts? I have tried Banister and Marcus Glenn. I know there is a guy somewhere down south that is a good source but cannot remember his name.
-
Hi trevor
it just looks like a rubber ring and metal cup washer.

Looked at boots today and don't think it will work.
anyone any idea of who would stock correct seals or complete joints, or suggest an alternative?
cheers

Although "wrong", could I just use a generic boot over the ball joints?
-
Would anyone know where I can get ball pin seals for the steering rods, or replacement ball pins with seals?
Tried banisters but he does not have them.
cheers

Hi Diana,
is it possible to get the o ring on without dismantling everything? They seem to do a good selection at Simply Bearings online....or I may try Pirtek up the road from me.
Thanks,
Mick
oh..how rude...thanks for replying

I am working my way up from the ground before starting cosmetic refresh on the ferret.
whilst looking at the wheel stations, I noticed a large O ring appears to have snapped on the outer bevel box, and there is not one at all on the left front ( both rears are intact).
i think this is item 38 in v622, at the end of paragraph 140?
"outside the flange of the locking ring a o-section ring (38) sealing the inner tracta housing is fitted."
this is a big ring, maybe 5 or 6 inches in diameter and 1/8 inch in cross-section.
can I just take it off, clean it up and superglue the ends together in situ before easing back into place, with the glued section uppermost?
I could also get some more rubber of the same cross-section and make one for the left wheel?
or can new ones be sourced and fitted without taking the drums etc off?
thanks,

Hi Phil,
you could try Byfleet Road, just off the A3 Cobham/Byfleet exit at Felton Fleet school.
Quiet no through road, not residential....I would suspect you would be fine down there.
