Good luck with your extraction Mat777 ,if I was local to you assistance would be easy, jacking on that soft stuff will just cause you frustration and at the worst case a slipped jack , which is potentially dangerous. as others have mentioned , whip her out at an angle backwards on a chain , if there is a concrete floor somewhere below and it is already bellied out there is little risk of overturning . The thread has made me have a chuckle , but sorry at your expense for having a bogged forklift, it also makes you realise that those of us who work and come across this scenario regularly , take it as second nature what to do , and have at hand the tools to extract this and far larger items are lucky buggers . For me when my computer crashes I then feel like our member stuck !

That's probably what it could be Richard , but unlikely if it's still 6 volt ! Mike we had a dumper come back to base last week with exactly the same fault , tight bolts and shuttle gearbox , so you can't start on the key , we put that down to an angry ground worker and a pick axe !

It's a bit of a grey area to be honest , especially since DVLA lumped many previously separate classes into the 'special vehicles' class , not to be confused with special types which is a very different class ! showman's vehicles also now come under the special vehicles category along with certain steam vehicles. Two trailers are permitted under this class , but limitations on length and vehicle speed are imposed. My advice to anyone looking to register a rigid heavy truck not in the historic category for hobby use is go for the special category , road tax is the same as private HGV , but the limitations set down are less stringent.

Well done Paul, that's a nice 353 you have bought, I know the last two owners well , and both have looked after it and kept it up together. I remember picking it up from up the M1 many years ago and double manning it home in the pouring rain. enjoy your purchase.

I was quite amazed when I did a little research that Westinghouse patented the single line air system for trains in 1868 , that's far earlier than I would of guessed.

Red line is the emergency supply , on proper lorries which had air taps before suzies , the connector at the cab end is female, the red suzie to connect a trailer is female ended at the trailer end. The yellow line is the service line ( brake pedal operated ) this is the opposite so has a male connector fitted on the lorry , with the suzie being male ended to the trailer side.. with that configuration you will be compatible to all trailers new and old. So from your initial description , yes the connectors on the unit pre suzie need swapping round.

Very wise words that I agree with , have saved what you intend to spend , so when you do find what you are looking for you can shake hands and put down a deposit on the spot.

I don't know of any service offered for tracked vehicles as an insurance where you will be picked up and magically taken home , my advice is to do some research on local haulage operators or heavy recovery firms to the area you run in, to find out who has the right bit of kit to move you in the event of breakdown, if it's a non driver many normal low loader operators won't want the hassle, so worth asking if they would entertain such a job. They will all want big £££ , best get buddy with a local preservationist who runs his own kit about to know you have a mate to assist in the event of a breakdown.

In the situation you describe with close proximity to neighbours , you can buy a hand applied zinc phosphate etch primer , I use HMG Coatings who will ship within mainland , all colours available out of interest, but when I have ordered a green in the past it is harder to see where you are painting , especially in awkward areas. You should them be fine to apply any of the stock enamel finishes offered for sale from either C&C military or Marcus Glenn , which are also brush or roller applied , being enamel based the paint smell is fairly low, so should help your situation. You won't need to remove all the paint to use the primer , just make sure everything that is loose is removed , the longer you spend though sanding/smoothing the old paint edge , the better the job will look.

Cadman did a REXIT ...... brilliant. At least that made me laugh at the end of reading what now seems a very sad situation with the show. It amazes me that you buy the title and goodwill of a potential winner which has been streamlined over many years with a known record of profit and loss , yet make such drastic changes in winding up so many to prevent so many core exhibitors from not even booking in to come ! A good businessman should of read the feedback long before the start , it may of been embarrassing but they could of changed route to rekindle exhibitor support. Of course now there is as expected mixed feedback from those who attended , I am told that the social media sites from the joe public point of view is far more negative than the normal moans about WC facilities and walking too far ! Where it goes from here is anyones guess , but for us in the South East the MV show circuit looks for a change with two shows all under new management and a fresh show upcoming... It will be a case of wait and see how they all pan out and are run me thinks, as to their potential future success.

Quite interesting viewpoints to be read , all I can add is that in my 30 years of driving , 20 plus of that Scammells , in the south east it's the volume of traffic and lack of any patience by general road users that's the largest problem , last year I experienced road rage against me twice beyond anything gestured before, we are often running close to 65' in length with the old tackle so finding suitable places to stop to let traffic past can be awkward , if you know the route I plan where to pull over, where good visibility for overtaking traffic is essential. These dangerous experiences have made me think long and hard about the future of travelling distances at slower speeds safely ! I am very fortunate not to have been phased by this but others I know will only low loader their toys for fear of modern day road sense. To make you chuckle I have been blue lighted twice in this time , once in the Explorer and the other in the Constructor , heart pounding and both times checking my mirrors to see if I had a trailer blowout I pulled in behind them , one wanted a photo and the other's father drove for Pickfords thinking it was his fathers old lorry !

Well the tracked dept is loaded tonight, just got to book room service for the 5* hotel I have to steer and stay in for the weekend Safe trip to all attending , looking forward to seeing you all there 😀👍🏻

Hi Ian , that licence you have is a road haulage C licence , in the mid 1940's , nationalisation was brought in for the road haulage industry , the C licence was for small operators who carried their own goods , so an early version of the restricted licence in force today.
