  1. Afternoon all, I have had in my collection for some time a log book holder.

Would these have been fitted to all or just some vehicles?

(I'm assuming British / commonwealth vehicles)

Size is approximately 9 x 5.5 inches or in new money, about 23 x 14 cm

  2. I've been a couple of times and both times wanted prices for items which I was prepared to grab my lorry and come back for. He had to go and do something and would be straight back, I'm still waiting!

As with vehicles it depends when the Chorehorse was manufactured.  As with the British Army our version of Olive Drab was only introduced in May 44 with strict instructions that vehicles in previous colours were only to be repaint when due and necessary!    The same would also have been true of the colour of the canvas covers.

Makes perfect sense for the British Army! Also thanks for the pic, looks like I'll need to paint every bit of it 😄

Hi  back in 1980 I bought a NOS Canadian chorehorse in the original ww2 shipping crate. The chorehorse itself is a matt medium green. The spares box is matt brown The paint is matt flat without any shine . The kit includes tools and a can of oil ... real ww2 oil . Canvas cover too. The Maple leaf decal is on the chorehorse and spares box... spares include ammeter ig. Coil . Can post pics if your interested

Sounds like quite a purchase! If you can post pics it would be much appreciated.

  5. Many many thanks for all this info.

I have an old roll of black vinyl/leathercloth which I'm hoping may be suitable.

The seats are covered by green canvas at the moment but this is a replacement as it has not put on properly. I have looked for period pictures of the rear of a QLT but the pic above is the only one i could see the seating properly.

And going back to the mention of the side panel pressings, what's the differences between the two types?

Where did you find the copy of Vehicle Markings?  Is it a personal copy or one from a museum archive?

    abebooks.co.uk

Search for military vehicle markings and both are still available for about £25 including postage.

So is this what you are doing with your time now Colin?

Hope i get to see the finished product.

Well this and filling out tribunal paperwork ready for the case against the museum :-)

Yes i'm sure you will see her and I haven't forgotten about your bits ;-)

  8. Depending on the reference source used; either Sep 41 (Warpaint Vol 3 - Dick Taylor) or Apr 42 (British Military Markings - P Hodges & M Taylor) although it would appear that RASC troop carrying vehicles did not loose their PASS Plates until the publication of Amendment 4 to Vehicle Markings 1942 dated 2 Dec 1942.

So do I make the assumption that the footage in 'millions like us' would be stock footage?

It was released end of '43.
