  1. Pathfinder 9x9 command tent. Must be at least 15 years old but in great condition. Canvas is almost like new with only a few dirt marks on it. Always dried before storage. One toggle missing to hold door open but otherwise looks great. Windows all good and all poppers work. Frame is good. Metal wire joining some poles together is broken and others holding by only a few threads but still goes together and hold together when up. Comes in bags. The canvas bag has a small hole and the base of pole bag is a little marked but otherwise all in good condition. £200 **SOLD**
  2. Get yourself a pair of GMC bumperettes and cut off the bottom. If I remember the mount plate is slightly longer too but chop it down and hay presto 2 Chevy bumperettes.
  3. Lupton House is a grade 2 listed building nestled in the beautiful Devon countryside just outside Brixham in Torbay. The house has a long and varied history with the first records dating back to the Doomsday survey of 1086. The 1940's weekend aims to show off the many heritage features that still remain in the house and gardens, as well as showing the important role Lupton House played in WW2 and in particular the D-Day landings of 1944. For more information visit website, or email militaryandvintage@lupton1940sweekend.co.uk
  4. The Locomotives were sat near where the explosion happened. As a result the boiler sections became separated from the rest of the engine and are now sat on the seabed, with the rest of the loco on the deck still. Thanks for your comments on the videos
  5. In September myself and my Cousin are taking part in the Motorscape Banger Rally (http://www.motoscape-rally.co.uk/). As doing it for charity was an option, we decided to raise money for SSAFA, as we have already done some fund-raising for them in the past. Our team name in Currahee and we will be taking along a 1989 Ford Sierra estate which will be painted up to resemble a C47. I have a page on Facebook that I will be updating as we start the work on the car and hopefully update it along the way too. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Currahee/52819348986?ref=share . I have also set up a Justgiving page (http://www.justgiving.com/currahee ) so that people can quickly and easily sponsor us. If you can spare anything then please log onto the site as everything helps and it is important to help our service men/women and their families as they are doing such fine work for us. http://www.justgiving.com/currahee Thanks Paul and Mark Team Currahee.
  6. For those of you that don't know the SS Thistlegorm was a 415 foot Steamship, built January 1940. She was anchored at Safe Anchorage 'F' in the Straits of Gubal when at 0120 on 6th October 1941 she was bombed by a Heinkell bomber. The resulting explosion ripped a large hole in her side and sent her to the bottom with the loss of 9 crew, and all of her cargo. This ship was full of supplies for the North Africa campaign and included BSA motorbikes, munitions of all kinds, Bren gun carriers, various supply trucks including fuel bowsers and 2 steam locomotives. Whilst on a diving holiday in March I was able to go and dive the wreck 3 times and took my video camera with me. here are the resulting videos from those dives... Enjoy! Some other videos from the trip are all on Youtube and can be found here http://www.youtube.com/BrixhamBSAC
  7. Hi Andy, welcome along. I'm in Torbay myself. Check out the Devon MVT websitehttp://www.devonmvt.co.uk for info on local events and stuff. Get in touch if you want more info (i'm the webmaster of the Devon site)
  8. If you are going to the trouble of restoring a vehicle, I think its worth doing to a standard similar to a fresh out the factory look. It may look a bit straight and shiny for the first year, but it will then start to show signs of use and have the worn in look. This is what I have done with the Chevy. I have restored her to very high standard, but will not be doing any more work (other than routine service work) in order to keep the fresh look. If the paint scratches I'll touch it up with a brush ect. After only a year on the circuit with hairy arsed re-enactors climbing in and out the back, tents being chucked in and general mud/road dirt it already looks used. Although not battle field used.
  9. If you can get yourself a copy of the "Catalog of American Army Vehicles of World War II" (its a modern re-print of the March 1944 (2nd edition) of "catalogue of standard ordanance items") it has all the technical info on almost all vehicle used by the US forces in WW2. Listed in the Ordnance Maintenance Trucks, 2 1/2-ton, 6x6 (4DT) section is a list of the workshops available. They are: Small arms repair, M7A1 Automotive repair, M8A1 Artillery repair, M9A1 Instrument repair, M10A1 Welding, M12A1 Machine shop, M16A1 Electric repair, M18A1 Instrument repair M23A1 Listed in the section is all the info regarding the type of workbenches and equipment kept on board, plus some small pictures of the interiors of each workshop
  10. http://www.southwestairfields.com/page45.html Is anybody else going to this? I will be taking the Chevy with a few 101st Airborne re-enactors. I didn't get to the last event there so looking forward to this one
  11. Devon MVT's annual military vehicle weekend, held at Buckfastleigh railway station. Camping is available from Friday 10th July until midday Monday 13th. Please book in at the command tent on arrival to receive your breakfast tickets and be shown where in the field you will be sited. This year we have decided it is no longer economical to attempt to provide breakfasts for unknown numbers. As a result if you require breakfasts on the Saturday and/or Sunday morning you MUST submit an entry form by 26th June. Late entries may be accepted but you will have to make your own meal arrangements. Entry forms available to download from the Devon MVT website http://www.devonmvt.co.uk/buckfastleigh.htm or Contact Ian Chick tsw367@aol.com or 01803 554774
  12. Yeah mine was covered in paint. The backing is made of a bakelite/plastic type material.
  13. I have got the same type swith on the Chevy, only mine has the backing that shows the positions.
  14. As a rough rule, tan stuff was ETO, with most of the green stuff going out to the Pacific with the Marines. All you need to carry as a driver/operator would be: Pistol belt with .45 side arm holster, canteen, carlisle 1st aid tin, and possibly the magazine pouch for 2 spare .45 mags. With regard the 41 jacket. You could get away with it, but when the 43 uniforms were issued all older styles were removed from circulation so have a mint 41 jacket lying around would be unlikely. Its the same with the para stuff. Once the 43 unforms came in out went the 42 jumpsuits.
