Martin If it helps I have two cookers No. 2 in need of refurbishment - an incomplete Mk 2 and a complete Mk 1 - neither pressurises when pumped so probably new seals needed all round. Hi I dug one out of storage this evening - it is approximately 5.5 inches wide and 6 inches high with the antenna base projecting about 2 inches above the body. The round bar at the bottom is inside the mast so does not add to the hight. The antenna element is in 3 sections of approximately 3 feet length each so a total of 9 feet - the bottom section is about an inch diameter - the top two are normal Clansman antenna rods. It looks like it is for something wider than long - the construction is of pressed or folded metal rather than cast so I would expect it to be Larkspur era rather than Clansman. Hi For a real "Mutual Conductance" valve tester (i.e. one that measures the performance of the valve rather than just saying if it is completely dead or not) I would expect to pay low hundreds - there is an I-77 on e-Bay for £170 plua P&P now (not mine) - I'd say between £200-£300 for the list you described Regards Iain

Richard Red Shoes was the future English Electric Thunderbird (all rocket propulsion, cruciform fixed wings and moving tail controls) and Red Duster was the future Bristol/Ferranti Bloodhound Mk 1 with ramjets and all-moving wings Iain

Clive From my reading there were 3 generations of test vehicles - early propulsion only JTV series (which may be a better fit to the description of this as private venture work leading to a missile) and then the XTV and XRD series which gradually evolved into Bloodhound Mk1 when all of the susbsystems were added - I believe XRD is "Experimental Red Duster" Iain

I believe the Bloodhound test vehicles were the XTV and XRD series at Aberporth and Woomera respectively so I guess this is an XRD if at Woomera ? The Thor engine was the Bristol Ramjet (so unrelated to the US LOX/Kerosene fuelled IRBM of the same name based at North Luffenham) and the eventual Bloodhound solid rocket booster was the Gosling (4 wrapped round the fuselage of the final Bloodhound) but this one seems to have a tail end nozzle on the centre fuselage for a single booster after the fashion of Bomarc) It also seems to be missing the large moving wings of the eventual Bloodhound - possibly not yet fitted on this specimen ? I left in 1987 so it seems a long time ago now - the Tornado was still new then. My dad had a small farm on the hill above the Kyle line near Auchterneed - I think they used to follow the line down to Dingwall and continue a few miles down the Cromarty Firth before turning left for Tain. I remember being really excited seeing my first Harrier around 1971 or 1972 Regards Iain

I'd be interested to see some photos of Tain - I grew up in the late 1960s and early 1970s about 10 miles away (and had an endless stream of aeroplanes on the run in to Tain fly past our farm at low level) - we were 760 feet up so often looking down on them - fond memories of things like Sea Vixens, Harriers, Jaguars, Phantoms, Vulcans and Hunters going past a few hundred yards away .. Dear All I had a pleasant afternoon at this year's show a mile or so from my home - I think a few less vehicles than last time I was able to attend, but still well worth it. I do wish the event had more publicity - it takes place on the 1st May Bank Holiday Monday every year at the Mid Suffolk Light Railway at Wethringsett Station. The event features the steam railway (of course), lots of people who make the effort to dress in correct 1940s fashions beside the military re-enactors, vehicles and displays of US and UK equipment including practical demonstrations Photos follow .. The Larkspur steel telescopic mast was 27' tall versus 8m for the RACAL Clansman mast so the guys are marginally short (so might need to leave the top section of a 27' mast retracted by a foot or so) and I think the snap-hooks may be bigger than the holes in the larkspur guy rings (so you would need shackles) but otherwise feasible to use Regards Iain 73 de G0OZS

This listing is for a lower clamp to fit 8M and 12M light duty RACAL masts (the ones with a 3 inch base tube). This one is in poor condition and lacks any hardware to attach it to anything. It was painted in desert brown but earlier green and bare metal show through scuffs and scratches. I am happy to offer it for £15 plus P&P or buyers can collect from me in IP14.
