  1. I only ever recall seeing the artillery and if I recall a single aircraft used for spotting. I Can't recall seeing vehicles :? Strange how you think you saw or didn't see something, only to be told the opposite
  2. Hope you didn't get the pie and mash from the town centre! Might find you can't keep off the loo tomorrow! I only work about 1/2 mile from Firepower and haven't been there, although I have been to the old rotunder many times and thought it lacked vehicles.
  3. Oooh wow Im in love! I wish I had the money to buy it, and the money to store it, oh yes and the money to rebuild it too
  4. They are indeed whom I was referring too. They are only about 2 miles from me, and look like a nice group to be with. I'm going to wait until the show season starts again, then go take a look at them. Who knows, they might know of the perfect vehicle for me thats going cheep. The pics of the various naval vehicles was very interesting (Thanks for the link) and has opened up my mind even more! The other half is having nightmares now about me coming home with a big truck!!
  5. I'm still in two minds about what to go for. Shouldn't it be 4 P's Price, Parts, Parking and Partner? I want something that you can act the part in, that would involve the family too I'm not a jeep or land rover fan, as they seem to be far to popular (so guys if you have one!) But I do like the Navy, and last week found out that there is a Naval re-enactors group about two miles from where I am, so maybe something that could fit in with that scene?
  6. Where the hell do you find things like the Sherman? Some people are crazy, so are mad, and some just like to inflict years of sorrow onto themselves by restoring military vehicles

In my job, I get to speak to many old people. Last week I was speaking to a rear gunner on a Lanc He flew 35 trips over German forces. He told me how just as he was getting into his aircraft for a trip, his pilot wouldn't let him fly as he had an eye infection which might reduce his night vision. A relief gunner took his place. The aircraft didn't return! When you look at these old men walking down the street, I don't think any of us really know what they went though, and how much they risked. Another time while working, I met this short frail Scottish chap. I saw a brevet on his bed side cabinet. I had a quick look, and it had a SAS badge on it, so I asked him about it. He said he was in the first batch on men to get into the SAS. He recalled several stories about Sterling.
  8. Does anyone know where I could get a nice Royal Navy uniform? A repo would be good for me. Cheers Kev
  9. Over the last few years, I have been dreaming of owning an old military vehicle from the war or just after. I have no mechanical skills, and don't know much about restoring etc. So, here are my silly questions.... 1/ When is the best time to buy a vehicle? At the start of a season, towards the end, or during the winter, when people need money for xmas? 2/What is the best 'first' vehicle to own? I only have a small garden, and a private drive, so being smaller would be better. I'm not a keep jeep person! My pockets are not big, so a few thousand would be a fair starting price. I'd also like the family involved with the vehicle, so I was thinking about an Ambulance (but that's my job).
