  1. What BMC block is this? Got it with a bunch of parts and want to find out what it is before i sell. It came out of a land rover but the owner said it is better for a canal boat, as a anchor. All help is appreciated.
  2. My wife has a 1983 109 ex raf too, defender style rear lights and served all it's life at RAF Newton as a airport run around. How did your yellow stripe look? There is some variation on that.
  3. A 1962 109 ex baor to be exact. Not impressed at all...
  4. Might put all my land rover issues here... in January a scaffold fell and landed on my dad's 109. It was a aluminium one they told me and damages were a mirror and arm. The picture i got yesterday was of a Layer system scaffold, steel pipes... extra damage i found was: the left bulkhead to chassis foot snapped, so i will be prepping and welding today with gasless wire, i have old chassis steel to practice on.
  5. Just think what can happen to a vehicle not used! I got given a picture of my dad's 109 and he claimed €60 damages for a mirror and mirror arm... it needs new foor wells and all repair sections of the bulkhead. Yes, it is a steel scaffold and not as i was told a aluminium one. Drive them old ones, enjoy them static... just insure them properly!
  6. They are on scedule for London to Brighton 2019. A magnet machined in the drain plug might be a good idea, i use two hard drive magnets on the 2.25 petrol / diesel oil filter housings.
  7. Don't plan to go again. I found fun in steam shows and the driving force that really wanted to go has passed away, we got him there twice with his 101fc ambulance we lovingly restored. rest in peace dad.
  8. Indeed i have. It was fun the day he did maintenance ... my dog came to see if he was ok, had to tell my nephew her black spots might rub off this trip
  9. If i could store some spares i got asked, no problem i said... mid way through the move i was the owner of the parts minus a diesel engine and some other bits. I have enough to rebuild a 1961 109 but instead of a RHD i have a LHD 1961 steering column in the parts pile. I am impressed with my wife, she welcomed the project.
  10. Indeed they did, loved the concept of it and made me think of a excuse to keep hold of the 125cc dirtbike.
  11. (Quote) have seen a starter rigged up using a chainsaw engine and gearbox attached to two long bars and engaged in the starting dog (end quote) in ww2 a system was used powered by motorbike, powering a rod system that engaged the starter dog. Might be fun to build, i know i want one now to use a dirt bike to start the diesel! looking forward to meet you guys, ever plan closer to Lincolnshire or Northants to visit shows? Would be fun and a privilege to sit in the truck.
  12. Changes to a vehicle, if i cram a 300tdi with automatic in to a series 3 lwb as a disability adaption, including left foot accelerator for a amputee or convert a 101fc ambulance with a 3.9 V8 with automatic gearbox for the same purpose, how will that stand when they hit 40 years of age?
  13. Was interested in a light machine gun from them but the reactions of make it yourself appeals looking at the comments.
  14. I have a 101fc ambulance with a UK registration declared SORN, it is in the NL (got told a SORN is not valid in another country but i did not want to declare registrations to them because of reasons) i can import it in to holland on a 1983 registration, perhaps older if i get a herritage certificate and a tow limit of 3500kg on a braked trailer. Then after a month or two get it driving to the UK on dutch plates and i believe i have to declare it through the nova sceme, can i apply for the old registration again?
  15. I am as i stated happy for the MOT excemption, i am also for more roadside checks to make sure vehicles are up to a roadworthy standard. I have been given a 1975 s3 land rover civillian for my wedding gift, i did get it delivered by flatbed as it stood for 8 years after it was someones toy. The brake drum was 2mm thick, redone all copper plumbing aswell as new shoes, drums and the front anchor plates as they were a bit corroded. Seen a 101fc ambulance fail its MOT as a steel brake pipe failed during the brake test, the owner needed help with replacing the lines and i had the tools and next round it passed it. I have spotted a crack in my swb chassis, it will be inspected by cleaning the gunk ofd, screwdriver test and welded up, it was missed during the MOT though.
  16. Indeed interesting. I have a 80A double rcd consumer unit to wire in, the two 32A feed cables are on breakers not protected by rcd, my welder does not like them. I have a old cable that uses 4 strands of 35A cable, but used the neutral bonded to earth in the meter box. I hope i can wire things myself then certification by a qualified electrician to be safe, if it is not a bodge job type like the one that rewired the house 10 years back as he kindly forgot the earth cable between the meter and consumer unit.
  17. I have half a hand powered shaper, fitted on a cross slide i will have most function out of it. If i can find a semi ruined lathe or a cheap lathe with gearbox i will sacrifice my old one in a way it can be reversed to build what i need. The deviding head only has one plate with holes to use, but i have the option of direct deviding in 12 steps using the lock pin with the rest disengaged. It is huge, way bigger then what i saw in the ebay pictures... i shall make do with it. My lathe tools are what people throw at me, mostly old bits of HSS that needs grinding in shapes for me to use, i scrapped a set of insert holders from my wish list, hss and carbide work fine for my needs at the minute. Any forum members understand house / garage wiring rules? I got a new consumer unit for xmas.
  18. I understand the basics of metal spinning techniques and to make moulds in a way so they come apart when you are done. But nice work on the acetylene lamps. They are perfect.
  19. Interesting slotting attachment. Might need to make a plate on my lathe bed, although i hope to het a old worn lathe to use a bed and bolt my deviding head on to it. That metal spinning set you have, does the lathe need a lot of speed? Or slower and more torque? I am thinking brass land rover head light rings and brass head light bowls for the series 2a.
  20. Looking forward to the rolling 40 years MOT exemption. Just get a insurance and free road tax and no out of SORN inspection or MOT needed. Just changed the 2.25 petrol to a 2.25 diesel in my 1975 land rover and lets get rolling!
  21. A dream collection of early deacts, and now a website with pictures to honour your father. May he have found his place in heaven and you found peace with his passing. Thank you for sharing.
  22. Weird thing is, a Belgium EU spec revolver cannot be imported in to the UK as it does not meet the UK EU spec. You cannot make it up.
  23. And the little broken stud gets removed too? It is nit picking, i know but it seems the right ting to do.
  24. Once you open up the hubs, look for any bearing numbers on them.
