  1. I know grills where often replaces by plain steel wire ones to be used as grilles. more the case with the series 3 as the plastic ones where poor as grill plates. they made maltese crosses to replace them. there are few myths round land-rovers and not all of them are true. like the salisbury rear axle is indestructible. i know better as for grilles, they might burned them clean before use, made their own or used them as is, i was not there and stories change during the years. it's fair to say i never intended to offended you.
  2. the opel blitz we pulled out of the mud on the first day. a 1962 s2a in low box did the job and i am not worried about my welding skills anymore as the rear cross member did hold. the lovely interior of that Opel (called it a vauxhall blitz one night, ww3 nearly happened...) how much is the puppy in the window? i love them and is high on the list of vehicles i want but never be able to have. would be fun next year to have a roman battle too? an example of how my 88lw should look.mine is going to be fitted with a harvey frost crane, as i need to work with it. a hook i picked up for a nice price, might use it on my sankey, or is it war time and someone needs it for their vehicle? cheers, Arjan
  3. with the land-rover line up last sunday i think it was a single lap cos it where that many. my misses drive up front, followed by me, and after the first lap we got parked as there where still vehicles comming in the arena. for next year, can we park our 101fc ambulance with the rear to the crowd so we can open the doors and show off the internals? if the engine won't blow a conrod through.. did the war and peace crew make some pictures of the arena too? would like to see them
  4. my misses did the talk about her 109 ex RAF in the arena with the adaptions made so she can drive it. the sunday it was just one lap while we drove in, and the story about the series 2a grill as being used as a bbq sounded like porkies, i would have loved to comment that the zinc gasses that would escape from heating it up is quite toxic. i would also have done a lap with a bit of 4x4 just to play. had a guinness just after to calm my shakes as i don't like to be in the centre of attention cheers, Arjan
  5. Did that missing man got found in the end? Sounds like fun to camp in the military section next year. Civvy tents welcome?
  6. home, with a small breakdown. it was a good show, did not make it to the beertent but had fun anyway. engine failure of the 101fc and the old 109 2a landie who had to work without preparation did fine. a few mishaps on the camp ground like a grease fire in out tent kitchen and two dogs who got a lot of attention on the trade stands, fun. the arena i thought was scary, first with the missus in her 109 ex raf, sunday i dared to drive in the 109 2a. on the way back we visited a friend who supports free radio. anyone made pictures of the land-rover parade both day's it was helt in the arena? cheers, Arjan (i had my forum name on my coat, nobody saw it or meet up with me)
  7. We are at the regular camping site, got a few fun bits as a mosin nagant rifle without woodwork on it, hand full of casings for my collection , some dog treats to keep them happy and flags and poles. Old tools and fudge doughnuts etc. our dogs where fuzzed a lot as the Dane / mastiff crosses where happy too.
  8. We drove through the fields yesterday, loads of ruts but fun. It's the only way for me to go out and see the displays there. The driver was testing out her 109 that's adapted and drove slowly but good. Our dogs enjoy it too as it ain't that bad on public camping and I hope to be brave enough to appear in the arena with the misses and her 109 ex raf
  9. They are rare, but i am keeping my eyes open. might be handy to ask the series2club for information on whats still out there? we just restored a series3 ex raf, they are rare aswell. hope you find what you are looking for.
  10. going to the show proved hard aswell. as i just got a text from my little brother that the 101fc ambulance blew an engine. bugger. the have it at a dutch AA road post as they claimed it was unsafe to stay at the motorway. either they get it running or tow home and reload in the 109s2a with a trailer. all i thought was bad weather to crack the fun. cheers, Arjan
  11. We have to much invested not to go. We pack up from two locations and set off During the night. I am walking in a green orange jacket with my forum name on it. Cheers arjan
  12. i have a retired policeman as a friend. he told me he did specialice in another field then guns, so he rather have the guns separate, and called in help from a firearms officer who came and checked out the guns. sometimes it took a day but if they where legal you get them back personally. a lot of police officers just don't have the experiance we have on this forum, and i don't blame them. they are people too, who do their job to the best of their abilities.
  13. I know it is still on, i have not had a cancel order from the organisation yet. we bring a 101fcambulance and a 109s3 ex raf (disability adapted) to the show. boats been booked far in advance, working my ass off to have the s3 mot ready and fitted mud profiles to the misses her wheelchair. we bought extra sleepingbags, camp beds and i sleep in the 101fc as my disability won't allow camping in tents anymore. even the mastidane dogs are looking forward to go.. i hope i can pick up the 109 tomorrow with a mot. i survived the 2007 show with mud too and i plan to walk on my wooden shoes. as safety thing. cheers, Arjan (now in lincolnshire to find a job)
  14. thank you. we even had paint made to that green. i found a flake preserved under the wood that was made inside her. told the mixing guy there was 0.5% tolerance on paint shade difference and he delivered spot on. Beertender was given her name by uk customs, as we had 20+Grolsch cases in the rear she will be driven from near Amsterdam to Kent via Dunkirk, to attend this war and peace. we are missing one stretcher, a compressor and some functioning electrics: temp gauge and fuel gauge. cheers, Arjan
  15. one of our 101fc vehicles. we decided to save one by getting the equipment the previous owner kindly chucked away just before delivery of the vehicle. it was camper converted for a year, when i got told it was a shame that vitrualy non existed in original set up. it was a stupid idea, but a 3rd place price winner on our local oldtimer show. parts where used from five other vehicles. quite happy we done it. cheers, Arjan
  16. my dad lost a co worker in the early 90's thanks to a exploding tire. it was like a bomb going off and the poor man was scraped of the ceiling. i did have that in mind when i was orderd to pump up the missus her wheerchair at 10 bar. wish they had the safety cages as demonstrated back then. one life could be safed.
  17. easy job. just had to educate how it works to the dutch AA guy, and then the recovery man that i cant steer. the main steeringbox went with a bust after picking up some 101 parts, now we have put in a series3 column, with a late 2a style steeringwheel. chassis is patched now and hope to restore more wits when the new chassis can be afforded. cheers, Arjan
  18. more easy to clean, more stabile with blowing over. those four sided mini sheds "blow"over my site supervisor found out. i pushed him over and the toilet landed on its door. thats why they made them diffirent, and should be better with the smell.
  19. mine is jst nato green inside, yours might be bronze green i think.
  20. don't care what the weaters going to be like, heavy rain is dry enough to enjoy a beer. dry means dust and wet means mud. i play in both. if the tent floods i can sit with the girls at the organisation and i bring my dogs who love to jump in puddles. skull and crossbone flag is allowed to get wet and i am in the 101 with radio caroline blasting through my laptop. fun anyway
  21. i (kinda) walked round to get a poppy pin, and i asked for the price with that nice old dear, 2 pounds, and no haggle for the price. so i haggled and set the price for 3 pounds and a hug.
  22. it's a him, its called Big Yin, came from scotland and moved to lincs. i am going to loose the power steering, big wheels arches .. keeping the extra step wich indeed looks nice and the big holes where the arches used to sit. electrics are good, seats are bad and i have rhd steering set waiting. hydro winch is comming off as it was not included in the deal. the rest was scrap to her and i got to keep it. fair deal. it's registered as plg,C license needed to drive it, and keeping it on uk plates. the internals from the rear where used to complete the 101fc ambu from my dad. cheers, Arjan
  23. i think it's chopped and changed a fair bit, it's green but not by paint and has been standing near the sea side for 5 years. it did not want to go on the trailer, i was a bit under staffed at that point and had two flats on the spare 101fc wheels set. the internals are gone in the rear, same as some crossplate material, a lpg tank is fitted where the spare cabinet used to be. thinking of making a camper vehicle with military externals in sand and olive drab. atleast it's going back on the road.
  24. yes it is still a land-rover. but i wonder what those modifications are. i know many had to do with bulkheads and i know military ones could have the nato and brockhouse sockets (like the rover 8 tubs had) just wondering as nobody seems to know. and rover 8 or rover 9, what years should that be? our 109 is registerd as year of build: approx 1962.
  25. welcome fellow dutch men. if you are going to the war and peace show, i might bump in to you cheers, arjan, also known as the dutch nutter.
