  1. The FV430 AC output was 208V 400Hz if I recall correctly - not terribly useful for anything except the original power tools!Andy
  2. Arborfield is the main museum, Bordon is the reserve vehicle collection. I went to Arborfield with some friends a few months back and it took most of the morning. Well worth visiting, I'd have liked to see a few more vehicles but they just don't have the space!Andy
  3. Sounds very similar to my HGV3 back in the mid-eighties, too. Andy
  4. That's actually the awkward bit, and the higher the note the more difficult it becomes. Even soloists in the RM band have been heard to split the high notes on occasions. To be honest, I don't really think this is achievable in the timescales. (I used to play Cornet in the Test Valley Brass when in my teens). Andy
  5. I thought that too - you can't go straight to an artic test these days without experience on a rigid? Andy
  6. I reckon it'll be about this time next year before the Abbot has its pack back in! I don't have anything much related to the alternators themselves I'm afraid, just what's in the usual manuals Andy
  7. "What Land Mine" - sounds like a monthly magazine! :-) Andy
  8. What exactly are you after? Details of the alternators themselves or general electrical information about the charging system? Andy
  9. The 432 appears to be a Mk. 1 judging by its early number and lack of rear exhaust pipe. If it was in service there, it was a long time ago! Andy
  10. As you say, I suspect that's the only real reason. I got my HGV2 back in the early 1980's when driving Outside Broadcast trucks round Manchester and have wondered about the difference ever since! Andy
  11. Well done - is it much different to HGV, out of interest? I've idly wondered why the two aren't interchangeable. Andy
  12. Trimont seem to have made all sorts of pipe wrenches and other plumbing tools - there's quite a few on eBay. Andy
  13. I don't have a photo of the Mk. 2 exhaust hole to hand, but as I've been cleaning out my Abbot's engine bay this weekend here's a picture of the Abbot arrangement which is broadly similar from what I can remember. I'm standing where the pack should be, looking at the left hand hull of the vehicle. Andy
  14. Understood Robin - I was just pointing out that bent idler axles (for whatever reason) aren't unfortunately just confined to CVR(T)s. Andy
  15. It's not just the CVR(T)s, the FV430s are known to suffer from bent idler cranks as well. It's something I was advised to look for when buying one. Andy
  16. At risk of being drummed out of the Brownies for directing you elsewhere, the pictures on http://www.fv432.co.uk will answer most of these questions and more. The only thing they might not answer is the exhaust question - on a Mk 2 or Mk 2/1 there is no lozenge-shaped access plate, simply a round hole for the exhaust pipe. Andy
  17. There's a very similar picture of 87000 Hawker batteries in Kuwait. They're £300 each .... Andy
  18. ... and if you're using conventional wet lead-acid batteries, either keep them fully charged or take them out and put them somewhere warmer. The electrolyte in discharged batteries can freeze and crack the battery case. Andy
  19. And presumably the odd FV430 or two? Andy
  20. I'd go for the earth fault - I don't see how the ECU could affect the lights! Andy
