  1. great to meet you and Marnick at the weekend, well done on the well deserved prize and see you in Normandy Nigel
  2. just got home from Beltring on sea and have to agree with mst of the previous comments and add that the staff on the gates need perhaps a little more briefing on the rules ,when we arrived with 1 van with wartime bikes and a camper for support we were quickly issued with wrist bands and to enter Kitcheners field and find a pitch however on arrival at the gate we were told "you cant drive in here until after 6.30 so go and park over there" as we were explaining we had been told to enter numerous civilian cars were entering and exiting unchallenged and we were told that there were too many chiefs and not enough Indians. The situation took a considerable amount of discussion to resolve but was at least finally sorted. As regards Jack finding the bar ,he managed Friday night as my group spent a couple of hours drinking with him on the grandstand steps and then Gingers bar
  3. easy< just all turn up at the Pathfinder Tents stall at agreed time and Jack will put the kettle on while we await the photographer
  4. also back and front wheels have a different number of spokes
  5. I think the company that supply repro everest carriers is Battledress and Bayonet,I have a feeling they may do other parts too, also google colin mac gregor stevens ,he has a website with some useful info including links to parts suppliers. When I needed handlebars for one of mine I found a close match on an old civvy bike in the local council tip
  6. Southend was probably going to be the plan but I will have a look at city as I heard you only have to be there 15 minutes before departure, which is nice
  7. its a matter of time really ,if we fly its less than an hour by condor its a 3 hour+ trip each way so for one day its not really feasible plus for me I have had some rather bad experiences with condor including a cancelled return trip from st Malo because there were only 25 people booked on the boat causing a long drive to Caen to get home plus more expense as we had to pay for an overnight cabin and finally customer services would not even reply to my emails and no phone number is available,so its flying or Brittany ferries for me every time
  8. nice link Tony, had a few good pints in the farmers over the years ,the Hedley videos are all good especially" take that Grouville",just makes me realise its well over a year since I was last over on the rock and really nee to go back
  9. I was just wondering if there would be any interest in a forum visit to Guernsey to visit Battery Mirus and other sites looked after by the festung Guernsey group, this could either be a day trip or an overnight as people wish but is obviously best out os holiday season so we would be looking at autumn /winter this year.I have visited Mirus and it is very impressive but not normally accessible so a rare opportunity and the island has many other bunkers etc to see all in a very small area Nigel
  10. got a mate in Stotfold who restores old fords for a living
  11. welcome aboard always good to have another Herts lad along ,whereabouts are you based ,Im in Rickmansworth and there are a few other members around the area Nigel
  12. great looking resto ,this was just a few miles from me and I didnt know anything about it until after the auction when a friend saw it being loaded on to a low loader, its amazing what is hiding away locally, did it come with a trailer as my mate thinks he remembers seeing one with it
  13. I shall be over doing the ww2 allied bike tour and guinness record attempt same as 2009 only bigger and will more than likely be camping at Etreham again so we will join you for a shandy or two Rosie Nigel
  14. really like these trucks ,looks like a good basis,I know what you mean about mlu ,I have been trying to join for ages but have had similar results
  15. I think the organisers are both Guernsey based and it does indeed sound interesting ,I have registered an interest in taking a bike or 2 for escort duty Nigel
  16. would this new museum be the place I passed last year with a pair of water buffaloes standing outside?
  17. I was thinking exactly the same Rich but I guess outside and with decent masks its not too bad
  18. a panzerfaust!,bet santa had trouble finding that
  19. I know what you mean about the price if thats the going rate over there I may have to export both mine Nigel
  20. the bloke who sold them the bike used to be a classic car dealer in Bournemouth,I bought a zodiac off him about 25 years ago ,seems rather strange to see him playing the English eccentric in America
  21. I will get my bike out tomorrow and take a lok at the dynamo cables to see if I can give you some idea Nigel
  22. last time a couple of lads did the recoed run on welbikes,so you could always stick on some l plates and join in,otherwise there is bound to be a spare pillion on the day
  23. we will have to try and get some of the 200 plus planned allied bikes over to see you at some stage during the anniversary
  24. have you checked out the plans for the allied bike tour in Normandy 2014? we went in 2009 for the 65th anniversry and 2014 will be the 70th anniversary ,the aim is over 200 bikes together on the road for d day
