  1. I don't doubt the Russians have a million gazillion tanks, but exactly how many of those are 21st century-spec? They won't risk all of those for an invasion I think?
  2. Indeed, and the signs are not good at the moment... But there used to be 3 forms of camping; as a participant with a military vehicle, as a (military) re-enactor or the public camping. All allowed you to stay the whole week but prices vary greatly per category.
  3. Maybe those new reflectors and fittings will fit into the original buckets? But if the original reflectors are still good I would just try those first.
  4. I haven't tried it on the frame yet, it would be a pity if indeed 26".
  5. I managed to get this rear fender in great condition. The tire is post-war but of the correct type, used but usable so I grabbed it. Now only 2 complete wheels and a front fender to go.... easypeasy!

  8. Maybe take one of the wheelnuts to a few (truck) tire places/garages? You never know what they might have.
  9. Someone in the US is making repro shells of an original WW2-era jeep battery, in which you can put an Optima battery. Check the G503 forum for more info. That being said, I think proper earth connections and the original gauge cables should go a long way with making 6V to start reliable.

Maybe it's an option?

  12. If you have the storage space for it, I think you'll be able to recover your money if you decide not to keep it, and you can take your time deciding... It looks more or less complete

  15. Interesting, thanks! I've started stripping my frame and although there are many layers of paint on it, all were some variant of green so it most likely was British OD from factory.
  16. Did some sanding on the frame today, and uncovered this marking at the underside, under the crank. Maybe the initials of the person who assembled it at the factory?
  17. Thanks, that will give me a guide at least as I don't have the original fenders so I have to fabricate something from some old civilian ones I do have, like shaping the ends and fabricating those support rods and their brackets.
  18. Would anyone know the diameter of the metal rods used for the fenders?
  19. I agree this is the best way, although you can use the kitchen sieve first to get rid of the bigger lumps that will block the funnel strainer.

  21. The restored examples I've seen seem to be the British OD green rather than Service Brown, indeed. I think this is the shade used from 1944 onwards?
  22. Thanks, it seems SCC 2 which was apparently re-named BS381 colour 499 Service Brown after WW2 is in the right direction. I know there are many variants but I would like to avoid using the standard US OD ('Mat 1') even though I really like this shade. I'm restoring a Mk.V now and I will probably use a 2K spray can.
