    Yes Chris I need new head race bearings and friction discs etc before I can assemble it properly.

Would be interested in the WM20 project Ron pm me your mob please as I seem to have lost it from my phone, the grey forks were not fitted with  helper springs so I presumed the were WDC the other set is complete whichever set is WDCO I'll let go along with the WDCO tank I don't need. Will take some more pics later today 😁

Thanks for the info Chaps 😁 called in to drop off some more parts to be blasted this eve and my mate Deano had done the frame and forks etc that morning so it was a quick trip down t'shed to get some acid etch primer on them 😁 bolted the frames together and loosely fitted the fork yokes but am waiting for new head race bearings.

  4. Thanks Ron looking forward to seeing you all at Netly, is Jan's report available to access online by any chance ? Am I correct in thinking that I could paint the Enfield service Brown or khaki depicting a machine that had been through a reme rebuild / upgrade ?

Yes Ron considering it has a later engine etc, and I'd like to retain the later rack to take the panniers I'm thinking mid war khaki, will swop over the WDCO forks with the WDC ones fitted to the spare bitsa frame likewise the ribbed front mudguard, I also have the late field stand and bckt ready to fit 😁 are you going to Netly bike jumble in a couple of weeks by the way.?

  6. Thought I'd start a thread here on my Enfield project, as you may know this machine was found together with a post war wdc frame and 1936 BSA in a barn where they had lain for the best part of 50 yrs.

    Acording to Jan this WDC was dispatched on 25/06/41

    Spent yesterday breaking it down ready to start the resto, but need to decide on paint colour and wether to refit the later rear carrier or put it back to as it came off the production line.

  7. May have got carried away, WDC frame and forks is at the blasters so have collected all the other bits and pieces to see what can be used or not !

    Will probably let the WDCO forks go to help fund missing parts.

     

  8. Yes Pete my MW drivers handbook is dated Feb 1940 am going to paint a white square with red circle per description on page 26 above. I guess the blue circle represents a different year.

    Plus may paint the rad cap red too, am just starting to research what markings my vehicle would have if used by the 2nd or 5th Bat Gloucestershire Reg in France 1940 but that's another story 🙃9

    Am now considering what insignia to put on the old girl, I'm thinking 5th Bat Gloucester Reg 144th Inf Brig 61st Div but need to find some images etc first

Am searching for the whereabouts of a 1942 Bedford QL that some mates of mine used to own in gloucestershire, I have checked with the DVLA and it's on sorn the reg is KFF 428 and I think it went up north around 2003 ish I think it had a 52nd div sign on the cab would be nice to know if it is still alive, any help much appreciated.

Took the Bedford to the Welland steam rally Friday and had a great time, though with bad weather forecast for Sunday we bailed out around 8.30 am and I drove the 45 odd miles home today in the p#ssing rain. I now know that these early MW,s are character building and that even in summer can be interesting to drive ! In fact it got so interesting that I could barely see where I was going at times, must be fecking freezing in the winter no wonder they were called pneumonia wagons !

    Back in it's shed and it's all wet and muddy 😎 bit like the owner and just like an army truck should be, 250 miles in and still going strong 😁 will check brakes and wheel bearings etc before I take it out again.

  12. More fettling and have moved the truck to my parents place to help with the running in process

    Truck has now done 50 odd miles and is really starting to settle down and run sweet and I must admit I'm really enjoying driving the old thing as long as it doesn't rain ! 🙃

  13. Busy day in the sunshine getting those hoops sorted.

    Quick redesign with the angle grinder and the U clips are ready for welding.

    After welding the corner and getting them to fit over the sideboard next job was to tack weld the clips to the tubes in the correct position then take them off and weld down each side tidy up the welds and paint.

    fitting those clips really made a difference, good solid and upright, canvas next.

    Next job will be to sort the rear lights, the set I made to hook onto the taiboard are now covered by the rear canvas that hangs down below the foot holds so am experimenting with magnetic ones.

    I prefer the second pos as the lights are higher and are more in your  eye line God knows if they will stay where put, will give them a try, I don't want to have modern lights fitted permanently if pos but I do want to be safe.

    Last job was red nuts

    Think  the reds a bit too bright will see what it looks like when dry.

    Looks like both these trucks have "new" owners post Dunkirk, both sets of hoops look ersatz to me, I'm restoring my MW as used by the British Army so would like to get it as accurate as pos . Nice pics though, don't think I've seen the second one before.
