  1. Well done!! I have very fond memories of driving all of those models in the 1950s...... great days, lovely memories.
  2. Well done, you should have a great deal of fun.
  3. When I was in REME in the mid 1950s, they always said that the most important nut and bolt on anything was the lose one!!...... Dont find out the the expensive way, keep looking and good luck.
  4. I joined the MVCG now the MVT in the early 1980s, my life has been considerabely enhanced by my involvement with my newley acquired circle of friends, I have found my involvement with my friends to be the nearest thing to my army service of the fifties. Any ex-soldier will tell you that his army buddies were like brothers. (I am still in regular contact with my army buddies, and we have a reunion once a year, the next one will be our 54th)

I was listening to a late night programme on the radio last night, the gist of the discussion was about the criminal record of people being a problem for people who were looking for gainful employment later in their adult life, only to find that an infringement of the law during their formative years (Teens) was proving to be a real stumbling block when it came to interviews. Most of the infringements were of a minor nature, but resulting in catostrophic results when it came to gaining employment. Some of these people had committed minor infringements during their childhood or teens, of course there was a large variety of offences, some minor, some relatively serious, but all proving equally devastating. Many of the people interviewed had let exemplary lives from their teens for as many as 25 / 30 years without further infringements, but still penalised for their earlier lapses. I reflected on my own childhood, I clearly remember that the local bobby would give you a good clip around the ear if he caught you doing anything anti-social, you certainly did not go to your parents ( In my case my grandparents, who raised myself and my sister) and tell them, you would just get another clip around the ear. I was involved with my friends (During WW2) in raiding a neighbours orchard and stealing apples from his trees. The policeman came to our home and told my grandparents that I had been involved in this terrible crime, the net result was that the policeman told my grandparents that I owed the princely sum of five shillings (25p) for the apples. I had no pocket money untill that "fine" was paid, and I had to take it personally to the neighbour concerned, all part of my punishment. Once that our own children had had gotten married and left home my wife became involved with youthwork to fill the gap that she now found in her life. Of course it was inevitable that I would become involved at some point, and I joined her until I finished at the age of 60, she continued until she was 70. I was asked many times by the authorities (Youth service) why I had not gotten into more trouble along with my friends, the only reason that I could give was that I never wanted to let my grandparents down, they had sacrificed a great deal when they took on the responsibility of my sister and myself, they were good people who led by example.
  6. I cut the steel and welded mine on in a couple of hours. Like many things it was a field modification.
  7. There you see, still learning, even at my age. Thank you.
  8. Our sons M20. When you say that you have wheel wobble, have you checked the tyre pressures, if under inflated it will roll all over the place. The M20 is a lovely bike to ride, the gear change is rather slow, does`nt like to be rushed. I always pushed through the gears slowly and held it in gear until I had released the clutch, that way I never missed any gears........ it will give you hours of fun.
  9. False ecconomics to attempt it yourself, it needs to be done as quickly as possible AND primer applied, it will attract surface rust in a matter of hours after blasting. Anything less than proffesional equipment and it will be like the 4th Bridge, by the time that you get to the end it will be going rusty at the start point. Good luck with it.
  10. Thanks a million, your timing was perfect, I have printed off the application form for tonights meeting........ thank you.
  11. I have had this plug cleaner for so many years that I have forgotten where I purchased it from, its an A/C and it works brilliant.
  12. Welcome in Jan, I hope that you manage to get a vehicle at some time.
  13. I suppose that a major criteria is the desire to glean knowledge, and share knowledge, you are not likely to gain anything by being aggressive in your manner. And I suspect that if you are going to get involved in the world of restoration a pre requisite surely must be a mild manner coupled with a large degree of patience. I have met, and continue to meet some wonderful people in this hobby that I am now happy to call my very good friends. They have certainly enriched my life, long may they continue to do so.
  14. Thanks for the pic`s, it certainly looks like a very nice location.
  15. Many, many thanks, we have our meeting on the last day of this month, I can now pass on your information to the members.
  16. The Tern Valley Show, it used to be held between Loggerheads and Eccleshall, its moved I believe to the Newport (Salop) area, can anyone confirm this, and what are the dates for 2013. Thanks in anticipation.
  17. Very good advise, I have always copied my license before sending it off ( and a lot of other important documents)
  18. The technical info was provided for this programme by a member of the Birmingham & West Midlands Area of the MVT, I understand that he provided all information for sourcing parts and was instumental in the building of the Jeep. He can be seen taking part in the programme. I have not seen the programme, I dont get National Geographic, but I do know the individual concerned very well.
  19. One of our members was travelling from the North Midlands to catch the ferry to Guernsey, he had the bad luck to breakdown with a major engine component failing. The member was given a number to ring (The member had no idea who he might be ringing, but he was in a desperate plight} A lady answered the phone, and said, my husband is out at the moment, but I will get him to ring you when he gets in. He did ring, and it turned out to be non other than Rex Ward. He immediately went to the aid of our member (His truck was a Canadian Chevrolet) I believe that it was the camshaft that had broken up. Once that Rex had established what was needed, he returned home for the spares, came out again and effected the repair. Our man was soon on his way and enjoyed a trouble free run to Guernsey and back home to the North Midlands. The man is an absolute star, and a real asset to this hobby that we enjoy so much. Cant praise the man enough.
  20. I am sure that you will love it, I have been attending these events in France and Holland since 1994, and its the best fun that I have ever had with my clothes on.
