Think they are deluded if they think 2023 will happen. They have lost all support and respect and folks have found better shows to go to now.

You will still get the die hard supporters who will go.

By the MV crowd, yes... but I think they're trying to turn it into a general 'vintage' show, which might appeal to a broader public which means more visitors etc. so they don't mind losing 80% of the green participants I guess?

I said this a few years ago, and people told me I was mad!
They changed the name a few years back-'the greatest gathering of vintage living' was the sub title, and that was the clue.

The new owner would much rather charge the public £250 for the week with a caravan than have mv's paying £75.

  3. The fact that only certain people can comment on FB(the die hard supporters) and no comments at all on Twitter shows you all you need to know.

Must admit i'm tempted to go as a day visitor just to see what it's like.

  4. I did say a few years ago that the show was heading this way.
IMO, the current owner has looked at what mv's paid, and thought to himself 'I could get a caravan in that spot and charge 4 times the price'.
What he wants is a ww2 themed retro festival, with a few select mv's and loads of public campers.

Still plenty on FB defending the price hike though.

Agreed, but as an organiser of another military show, common feedback from the public is "too many Land Rovers".

    Andy

The public think any 4x4 is a 'jeep'.
As a long term landy owner, I feel limiting landy numbers is snobbish.
The land rover is the most used MV all over the world, therefor, there will be more in private hands.
There is room for all of us in this hobby.

  6. For the simple reason that a lot of the MV people come from abroad and have other things to do on monday, and so sunday's visitors were greeted by a lot of empty pitches and vehicles moving out. That's why a few years ago it has been decided to start & end the show a day earlier.

But it has made no difference what so ever, people still pull out early.

  7. I had a great week, but,

Was the quietest I have ever known w+p, even the re enactors field had spaces!
Toilets really need to be cleaned twice a day- by midday they were awful.
Severe lack of traders, was told the prices had been put up.

The living history that was there was good.

I cannot understand why the new owner does not open to the public on the sunday-it would give him more chance to take gate money if the sat is a washout.

Being a parent I take a caravan as W&P now coincides with summer holidays. If it's wet or too hot my child will happily do stuff in the caravan without me being pestered all day! Sorry if it spoils the atmosphere, but it makes things more bearable than if I were spending a week in a tent with the same child...

Must admit, I have no problems with caravans/civvie tents, but should all be in a seperate area, they did this at capel and it worked well.

Rambo. JFYI the Entry price also allows YOU to Inspect & use the toilet facilities.

As many times as you wish Sir!...….. 😁

    Good idea!
And if they are no good, I can charge w+p £250!😀

  10. I think the MV scene is still busy, just in different ways.
Facebook has taken alot of the net traffic from forums.
I started doing a few steam shows last year instead of MV shows, tbh, ive seen nearly every mv there is and steam shows make a nice change.
W+P excitement?, I know alot of people have just become fed up with the way we are treated by the people who run W+P,  Ive done 24 out of the last 25 W+P's, and overall have enjoyed them, but as many on here know it's the bloody toilets that spoil it for me.
I'm doing a week at W+P this year, have done for the last 20 odd yrs, am I excited about it?, not as much as I used to be, for me I treat it as a weeks holiday, but find the GDSF far better for a week.

  11. Yes it jolly well did, it wasn't at Folkestone for a start, plenty of winge free people had a whole lot of fun, tracked stuff drove around in the evening, there was a tank drag race, the Jive Aces played a lot, there was no helicopter, Spitfires appeared at random times presumably just passing by and some brave bloke took on all the problems of putting a show on and put his money where his mouth is. Good enough for me!

    Agree.

    Living history was excellent, imo.
