  4. went ahead and posted jeffords numbers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_War_II_North_Africa_Airfields if anyone needs a number I didnt post give me a shout . BB
  5. the mount looks like the periscope mount for the M8 tank periscope. but that lists the M39 and M46 unfortunatly the M45 is not listed in the TM 9-2300s for standard artillery and fire control material. BB
  6. my knee jerk reaction is mine detector case. but really cant tell for sure with it being so torn up.
  7. ok; so I tracked down jeffords book. and I guess the british didnt know how to navagate. or its a MI-6 misdirect. cuz most of the stuff aint even close. tried to put up this chart on the wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Brian_in_denver/World_War_II_North_Africa_Airfields Iv run accross some gamer forums. but thay give no source for there info. any ideas? :nut: BB
  8. OK heres what the germans are calling Bir el zimla http://wikimapia.org/#lat=31.0805774&lon=27.4308014&z=11&l=0&m=b&search=31.05N.%2027.42E Iv already plotted a couple of other airfields around it. BB
  9. heres my problem. in "stirlings desert raiders" he makes absolutly no mention of crossing the highwy or railroad tracks. coming or going. whitch makes me think it was south. BB
  10. I didnt have any problem locating and marking the train station. http://wikimapia.org/#lat=31.1646161&lon=27.6283622&z=16&l=0&m=b same thing down the line at fuka. and was able to mark the airfield there. if anyone knows that number. if you click on the marked outline it will bring up a data page. and that page has a link to the german target photo. this is the first I'v herd of LG-15 tho. BB
  11. oh that it were that simple :undecided: so to save time. retracing my steps read this thread JEEP raid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Special_Air_Service BB
  12. and for our next quiz.:cool2: wheres Sidi Haneish airfield LG-12 located? or did David Stirling take that to his grave with him? I find it hard to believe the most famous jeep raid in history, is so undocumented. BB
  13. as near as I can tell the power lines follow the Trigh Capuzzo all the way to the Fort area, at the Egyptian border crossing. any clues as to where fort madelnia is/ was. on the southern end of the border? maybe here http://wikimapia.org/#lat=31.4002148&lon=24.8702037&z=17&l=0&m=b&v=8 BB
  14. unfortunatly I cant seem to zoom on your map? guess I dont have the right program. looking at the NZ website, I think this must be the blockhouse. http://wikimapia.org/#lat=31.8134689&lon=24.2023551&z=17&l=0&m=b&search=Latitude%3A%2031.8667%20longitude%3A24.13611 I noticed on the wikimapia site theres imbeded pics on another level. but there way to the west. OK were looking at the same pics. Yah when you turn off the pics you dont see any bldgs. I think the guy laid em out perty randomly. I marked what I think must be the blockhouse. and measured 5 miles from the mosque to the block house. I see a white spot halfway in between that must be the stone airport tower. http://wikimapia.org/#lat=31.8087644&lon=24.1680658&z=17&l=0&m=b&v=8 I do notice another east west track running past the last (southern) gun emplacment you think this could be the Trigh capuzzo? BB BB
