Hi Kevin, as with everything that's very subjective depending on your point of view. The military vehicle celebrations in my opinion have always been bigger in Guernsey and well organised having been run as a cavalcade every year from 1983 by the local club. However, every five years we try and put on a bigger show and a large number of vehicles visit Guernsey from Jersey, the UK and Europe. Unfortunately in Guernsey it is restricted to Pre-1946 vehicles only for the big parades to fit in with the ear being celebrated, Jersey allow any vintage. This year did not go ahead due to Covid-19, but to answer you question Jersey had 35 vehicles planned for it's cavalcade, Guernsey had 150 military vehicles, 100 classic cars and a number of vintage tractors, vintage pedal cycles and decorated floats estimated to be a 3.5 mile long procession. The whole town is normally pedestrianised and the three main piers and the linking roads filled with entertainment, food stalls and other attractions. There is a large and spectacular fireworks display at the end of the night normally lasting 45 to 60 minutes. I would imagine if you look on Youtube there will be videos a plenty for you to review and make your own mind up. People who have been to Jersey and then come to Guernsey always comment to me on how much bigger and better it is in Guernsey, but then I suppose they are bound to say that. Why don't you come and find out? There will be an announcement soon regarding 2021.

Sadly this man received other vehicles on loan to his supposed museum, two belonged to me and were subsequently sold as the Major claimed I had gifted them to him. The costs to peruse this and him through the courts was going to be more than the worth of them some nine years ago. I would be pleased to speak to the investigation team in this current matter, to give them details of this and other incidents I am aware of, where other reputable collectors were targeted and left either without vehicles or seriously out of pocket. Others beware if it sounds to good to be true!

I'm on holiday in guernsey at the mo so i'l try and get some pictures of the airfield and the vehicles up when I get back home. Yeah it's good having the vehicles on the airfield, great for pictures!!

hi, im the new owner of an uparmoured humber pig as used in northen island. the restoration is in progress with wheels just restored. Its a non runner so tips or advice would be helpful. picture is without wheels restored Below is with the rear wheels restored

Hi Richard, I have been off line for a while. It may interest you to know that the Pig used to belong to me I obtained it from the Mallard in an attempt to save it from the scrap man. It came to Guernsey after it was used as one of the vehicles in the film "The crying Game" I also understand it was used in another wich had the name Hilton in the title. It sadly was badly vandalised and after an aproch from Jinksy he took the project on a number of years ago. Good luck with the project it would be good to see it back on the roads again. To my memory we last got it running about eight years ago.

When I came over to Guernsey on the 1990 liberation tour, there was a "local" Dingo with Malayan type modified hull, so assume that was yours?

Thats the one it was owned by Colin Best who died about 12 years ago, I got it last year and had to do a quite a bit to get it up and running again, soon I hope to paint it back into the Bronze Green it would be in for Malaya.

The show sadly is not by myself but the Guernsey Military Vehicle Group, we should have about 100 wartime and a number of post war vehicles on display at the Festival Of Transport on May 8th at Sausmarez Park and a cavalcade drive terminating in St. Peter Port on May 9th our Liberation from German Occupation, so it should be a good day had by all. Perhaps you would be interested in covering the event in your Mag?

That sounds like the Humber Scout Car from Guernsey ( I modified the gun mount to a twin ).

Yes Richard you are correct it's Martin's Humber with the twin bren mount, which if my memory serves correctly you made. Mine is a Malayan up armoured DSC.

I am a new member to the site and my name is Simon, I live in Guernsey in the Channel Islands. I have been a vehicle collector for over 20 years but military for only 15. I am limited by space but still have a 1943 Daimler Dingo, a 1941 White Scout Car, a 1941 BMW R12, 2 M38a1 Jeeps, a 1954 Daimler Ferret and a Landrover 90 (WOLF rep). Like the site and hope to be able to give you information on the Guernsey Liberation tour in May 2010 and perhaps post photos when I then work out how to do that.
