  1. I'd appreciate that. I'm hoping to try and rouse interest in a couple of vehicle owners to do a display that's a little different than your usual living history scenarios. I'd imagine that the Ferrets and jeeps would all be generic with no markings on them. I know they used civillian trucks to transport personnel, evacuees and supplies. Paul
  2. Technically we're testing the living history waters with a generic Freelance Unit. We're looking to do a Congo Crisis display in 2010 but didn't have time to collect the kit and equipment for it in half a year. So we asked the organisers at W&P if we could portray a generic unit for 2009 to see what the general reaction would be. In short, we're portraying mercenaries. Sorry if some don't like the idea. I discussed this with Rex and Greg and there is a 16 page thread on mercs on the UK WWII forum. It's not my intention to upset anyone. I'm interested in the subject and it is part of our history. It mean's I'm rather a shallow person for thinking no one would pick that up. I'm sorry if you thought I was talking behind anybody's back. It was more of what I thought was a light hearted crack as I know everyone would want to know about what someone is doing before making any type of decision. Please accept my apologies. PMd, safariswing. Paul
  3. Great pictures. Looking forward to War and Peace this year so I can see a few more. I wish I had the time and money to get one for an up and coming project that's a little off the beaten track. Keep up the good work. Paul
  4. We're portraying mercenaries for the West in Africa. There will be five of us and we're situated at the end of the post-WWII section. You know, it may sound bad but it's not my intention to insult any former or current serving member of the armed forces. I find it an interesting yet dark subject in history. We're not portraying anything to do with Angola in '76 or the Balkans. This is a test to see how the public reacts. It's a one off anyway and we wre lucky to have the W&P organisers agree to letting us display. Hopefully if it works out we'll be portraying members of 5 Commando during the Congo Crisis of 1964/65. Getting back on track with the artillery. I know you don't know me from Jack but I'd like to state that if we were lucky to have someone let us look after some equipment, we'd work to their rules. We have an ex-member of the Royal Artillery attending so we'd be drilling according to the book. Again, this display is not trying to disrespect anyone, although I know it will do. We're trying to show that it is part of history whether people like it or not. Like the X Factor... Kindest Regards, Paul
  5. We're portraying a unit during the Cold War. We're subcontractors for the West against subcontractors for the Soviet Union. Paul
  6. Hi there, I'm currently researching into Mike Hoare's 5 Commando and their operations against the Simba rebels in 1964/65 and I found that 5 Commando used jeeps and Ferret scout cars to name but a few. Does anybody have any information regarding nomaclature of the two, above, vehicles? Regards, Paul
  7. Anyone need their artillery babysat? We need something on our Living History display to make it a bit more intersting. PM me for details and beer compensation. Paul
  8. Hello chaps, I was at the site meeting for the War & Peace Show yesterday and overheard that there is quite a lot of armour booked in. Anybody on here going Paul
