  1. If the vehicle is used privately and not in conjunction with a trade or business then no tacho is required as there is no need to record drivers hours

When the vehicle is presented for its MOT that is the point that you have to pass the exemption form to the examiner. So I was told by VOSA. The former Chairman of the MVT Preston Isaacs was fined £250 because he didn't exempt the vehicle at the time of the MOT.

Tony whatever you do get in writing from VOSA if you can

  3. Quick update on the continuing DVLA saga regarding getting a V5c for my tractor , after 5 months and several forms I still have no log book, rang them today to be told there is a "discrepancy" and they have written to me with MORE bloody forms ! I have up to now lost 5 months insurance over this and it's needed to do a job. They have my mobile and landline numbers which they insisted on yet couldn't use them to contact me, they say they posted a letter to me yesterday despite having the last form for well over a month :banghead: This tractor has been on the same farm for years and is as far as I can tell all original this will probably turn out to be someone misread the chassis number years ago when registering it yet there is nowhere you can go anymore to get a real human being to come out and look at it as you could when the regional offices were open. This does not inspire me with confidence when I come to register my Dodge WC52 in the next week or two :( I have sent them pictures, rubbings of the engine and chassis number etc but now they want a list of any modifications since 1968 ! I've only owned it 5 months how the hell do I know ? Looks like the scrap yard and a huge loss of cash

Bloody hell don't let the bastartds grind ya down and certainly don't let them win!

Modifications none is the answer its a standard tractor as supplied by the company. I think the answer is to provide them with short and concise information and nothing but facts no suggestive or suggestions should be implied when dealing with them.

  4. I remember a First World War veteran talking on TV about his experiences of living in the trenches and seeing dead bodies: shattered limbs, skulls in trench walls, fingers or hands being used as coat hangers, walking on bodies to him it became the norm something to endure till he went home to his family. Most of the things that he said have now passed from my memory circa 1980 but certain things did stay and took all the fun out of war. I suspect that most of the things that he said then would never see the light of day on TV now. Pity though, sometimes the gruesome bits need to be shown or heard about just to remind people that war isn't a money making exercise nor is it fun. Wall to wall 24 hour news has made war unreal and computer war games oh mama what a heap of trouble thats going to become.

  5. Hello everyone,

Firstly thanks for taking the time to read my rambling's, I am often described as many uncomplimentary things, so my choice in green machines may well suit me, but what I am looking to find out is how many RB44's are in use today , I actually think they are overshadowed by a bad reputation , and before the hellfire starts , no mine has good brakes ! Maybe a case of book judged by cover ? But comments and feedback welcomed .

Loads still in use I was out in mine today.

A lot have gone abroad to some of what would be considered third world countries as they are a basic vehicle no ecu's drum brakes chunky tyres perfect for off road use and rough roads.

  6. After spending most of the day with Mr Terry Brooks yesterday undertaking driving instruction and passing the tracked vehicle test 1st time I am pleased to say that I can highly recommend Terry for anyone who wishes to learn to drive a CVRT or other armoured vehicle.

I also learnt that in his opinion diesel Spartans, which I learnt on, are noisy, unresponsive and use more fuel than a petrol version besides which diesel costs more. Terry said that in future he will be reverting to petrol. He also said of course they are heavier.

    Diana

How much did the package cost test and instruction

    Congrats

  7. As someone who's visited the island at least once a year for the past few years (since 2004 I think), I was gutted to hear about the closure of the museum. Every trip I made to the island, I dropped in to have a wander around, chat with some of the staff and it was a fantastic opportunity to get up close to one of my favourite AFV's of all time; the Churchill tank.

Their facebook page confirmed that they officially closed as a business on 18th of October 2013 (or that's when the message was posted anyway).

My other main interest in the museum was the small number of vintage machinery they were using there, two 1970's JCB's and a couple of cranes. I was always hoping to get better pictures of these but now I guess they've gone as well?

Does anyone have any contact with a former member of staff maybe? I've tried searching for any contact details available and have come up with nothing so far. Hopefully someone else has had more luck than I have!

    Thanks.

    Best regards

    Gavin

    Look on Milweb.net Sexton Tank

  8. This kit was sold to Mark, but it never made it further than the Lincoln Hermes depot. I won't go into details, but there is no way I am ever using them, or Parcel2Go again.

If you see this on ebay, at a car boot sale or even in a skip please let me know!

    Thanks.

I use p2go but I won't use Hermes as I have had problems with them in the past like not turning up on the day you want the item collecting not just once mind you. I use UPS in conjunction with p2go up to now I haven't lost anything.... wheres the wood to touch.
