  1. I had a 4.6 for about 7 years and loved it. A couple of niggles. some electrical items such as wipers and Windows started to behave oddly, but after checking on the inter web I found advice to check all the earth bonding from engine to chassis etc. I went around cleaning connections and it cured it! Also had the suppension collapse after an exhaust leak melted a pipe above the rear suspension. Other than that it was pretty reliable. They can get expensive if the electronics start to give up.... Good luck with it. Iain
  2. I am sure that "multi-fuel" was to accept Civgas or Avtur as alternatives where needed not as the norm. Certainly not 100ll or any other chemical. I know of M35s and the like needing new fuel pumps etc when white spirit, thinners and other gunk has been fed through, OK maybe for a couple of miles......:undecided: And as said, then there are the adjustments needed. Iain
  3. At 1000lt to fill up I would seriously doubt it has been tried:nut:. I would stick to red diesel or stock up on fuel filters etc. But it is best surely to look after the engine and feed it with diesel. Iain
  4. A very vivid demonstration of the deadly result of a recovery tow gone wrong. I can understand your wish to get the message over but I think fair warning is due to anyone that wishes to watch. Unless this is a very good mock up someone has died and the images are very graphic and could upset!!! Iain
  5. The older LRs would have been factory painted in gloss DBG and the IRR applied on top later. A gloss undercoat would give the protection you need. Alternatively wipe the Matt paint down with Duck oil now and again, it freshens it up and protects! Iain
  6. Yes, things move on and I'm sure they will be up to speed with the technology. I can't help think though that the battery packs will not last forever and will be expensive then there are the motors etc. Can't see these on the bench in a shed getting fettled. If costs come down enough maybe the local spares shop or inter web shop will stock cheap replacements, maybe. I feel that the manufacturers will want shot of the cars, vans, trucks etc at the end of their warranty and most will then be recycled. I am not sure many will pass on to second or third users. On the bright side as Tony says alternative fuels for proper engines should be more readily available to keep our stuff on the road in a clean and healthy way that no one should find offence in. I'm sure some will though.... All food for thought. Iain
  7. What is going to become of the used (electric/hybrid) cars after the dealers stop supporting them. Will they be supportable by your local garage at reasonable cost or by self maintenance. The technology used at the moment may mean there is no longer a long term second hand market, does this mean many people will be costed out of car ownership? Iain
  8. Good to hear, I'm sure they will be able to help you. I think Rod may be at a wee show down there for the week........ Iain
  9. Hi Tim Speak to Rod at Marltrax, he has a few trucks in stock! cheers Iain
  10. You can use cellulose, it is still available and legal to use on classic vehicles. Jawel are just one of many suppliers and any colour you want is available in just about any form. You can order online without restriction. Iain
  11. Here you go! https://www.jawel.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=147&zenid=ga7kpnn6goi5u97g17hgu6np83 I have used them quite a lot, quick and helpful. Iain
  12. I found an address for my dad at BAB21 also at Heydebreck this led me to Pegasusarchive and other websites. I have found confirmation of some of the things he told me over the years, little snippets that are now making sense. He told of working at a chemical plant as he was a plumber and workers from BAB21 did indeed work at a local plant. Other things such as the long march then the camp he ended up at (Stalag VII A, Moosburg) being liberated by Patton who insisted the camp gates were closed so that they could drive a tank through them. This has also been confirmed. I am just getting started and am not an expert researcher but it's amazing what is on the inter web! This pic was most likely from BAB21, my dad is on the right. http://www.pegasusarchive.org/pow/S344/BAB21/PicBab21_Burgess53.htm Many thanks to Mark Hickman at Pegasus Archive for permissions. Iain
  13. I am going through a stack of old photos that came from my mothers house recently and came across these two. They look like postcards and the sign at the back reads " FELDPOST 19401 A", my dad is in the back row under the T I think. POW Band.pdf One of the cards has a return address to my dad although part is missing due to the piece missing off the card. It reads, as best as I can see. H H Adair AB. RN POW 14654 2.KOMP KGF B.A.B.21 Blechhammer. O.c UBER. HEYDEBRECK T1 I have made some guesses but it might make sense to someone. Ill keep on digging! Iain
  14. How about this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/British-Lanchester-Web-Sling-dated-and-marked-/371636531681?hash=item56874371e1:g:FnEAAOSw~oFXFZt6
  15. I have always believed that it is better not to run an engine in a car, bike etc unless you drive it and get it hot at least up to normal running temp. A warm engine will develop condensation and do more harm than good. A diesel will not get hot enough just running not under power. I would just leave it! Good luck with getting things sorted. Iain
  16. It would be interesting to know, too long ago for me. We did have a variety of issue kit from Canada such as Dewliners, parkas, muckluks etc and some from Norway. Also some we bought ie norgie shirts, ski goggles etc... Worst kit ever, NATO bloody planks! Iain
  17. I was with 33 (and 240 OCU) in the late 70s early 80s and was based at Odiham, Benson was Queens flight and bs central to us.... Iain
  18. It is part of standard cold weather/artic issue. As my Squadron (33Sqdn with Pumas) was part of AMF(L) helicopter force we were issued with artic clothing (as well as tropical/jungle etc.) and although most of the deputy Dowg hats were DP some would be grey/blue or OG or whatever came out the box. Not unusual to see a mix in use. Also used in the Falklands. Many units operate in the artic not just RM. cheers Iain
  19. He is listed as a trader on Milweb, all his contact details are on there. Cheers Iain
  20. Here are the parts book pages with the selectors, it should help with numbers etc. AEC gbox.pdf Not sure this will work as it is a PDF file? Iain
  21. Looks like the positive lock for the hooks was Tyewraps (other makes are of course available) with the chains wrapped in black bodge tape. Yes that's the Mob I remember...:-D So it should be easier to replicate as the "specialist" cable ties and bodge tape are available...... I remember driving a BV202 up from Odiham to Let Jate play with it and sort out the rigging, went the past the peace camp on the A38 (Sorry dear, you should have been quicker getting out the way). Were you there then Doug? (Not the peace camp). Lots of luck with it Robin! Iain
  22. If I still had a Ferret I would definitely have some, with the updates of course. They look well made and finished. Much better than paying silly money for cuts from PSP that was made by the million.... Nice one ! Iain
