After  my friend  bought his Ferret There was no power  the previous owner had fitted a new carburetor, fuel tank etc so they must have had a problem and could not sort it

For example  we road ran it  up a long road with a small incline it would only drive in 1st gear,  the traffic was backed up and I were desperate for a place to turn and finally found one to get back to his home. After the usual points, plugs condenser. I started looking further . I then checked the inlet valve clearances .Some muppet had got them totally wrong raging 0.0015 to 25 oversise and one at ).0001 barley opening. AHA road test .

Boy it had some power for a ferret .     On my last ferret  I came upon the same problem but the clearance was over 0.5 " over adjusted 

When looking at the rockers  under the rocker cover   NOTE that they are INLET  valves only and need to be correctly adjusted

I am sure this often happens on other military vehicles when they are messed about by unskilled people

 thanks for the reply.The main thing is to be compliant with the law as £ 1000 per  defective tyre  and points on you licence is not worth your collar being felt.

I am helping a friend do up a ferret but the tyres are very poor .Are there any firms doing them at present .The size are 900 x16 I believe

Its hard for  vintage military owner with 60+  year old vehicles but there are tyres out there .Unfortunately the law does not take prisoners.  Cracked tyres can be used on prvate land or have the vehicle transported to various sites. I would encourage  tyre companies to help us , sometimes they do a run on various redundant tyres.

I was looking at a programe the other week on the police and mot failures . If a tyre is cracked with age , the driver of the vehicle could be fined  £2500 and points on their licence  per tyre

When I have seen the state of some of the vehicle tyres at shows  .  Tyre Paint will not  make it MOT legal .

Keep safe replace old tyres

thanks for that i thought thee would be a lot more than just the lubrication system.  I will pass on the info this Saturday.

Thank  for the reply Richard . I would think locating the parts would take a bit of effort finding a a sump , remote tank, pipes  and  pumps will not be easy but the HMVF may have someone that has them.

Hi I wa asked a question from a fellow ferret owner that has a wet sump B60 and want to fit it into a Ferret. Ovisaly the Ferret has a dry sump . Has anyone done the conversion, or anyone got a  dry sump and the appropriate bit. I would appreciate your views and response

Now i have sold all my foxes I have 9  titanium raden shells with dummy heads. If anyone is interested they are for sale at £9 each P+P extra  please PM me I also have the shell holder that is on the LHS of the driver that holds the nine shells .

I agree with Ammo man put in an isolator on all my military vehicles the batteries drained and was sorted with this mod

The Polecat is now sold with loads of spares

Must admit  the picture of the wings would NOT pass the test of a man on a galloping  horse passing  by it.

If its structural proper repairs  by welding   Thick plate is easier to weld but it must be very clean as alloy does not take prisoners ,Pay out the money and get a good welder

Aluminium is difficult to weld and being thin  old plate it is near impossible The best repair is to get alloy plate and rivet it on as it is not a main structure it will pass an MOT.

Thanks  Robin several people interested    as it was  ,but on reflection its worth more in parts and will be broken bit by bit over  time  I will Probably take the peak engineering turret off in the spring

There is a high demand for parts  so I will break the vehicle for parts.  Its no longer for sale as a  rolling vehicle 

Yes it is road registered & took  months to get I have it on HMVF classified, as a rolling exhibit with pictures I t will go on Ebay once they come up with a reduction in final sale fees . It has not yet been advertised but word of mouth travels at the speed of light.
