  1. hi steve each tank has a specific sight or more accurately not the tank but the turret main gun and mg combination.so the firefly shown has graticules for the 17pdr plus .30 mg so can only be sherman but i also have a sight for a 2pdr with besa so could be used on several tanks ,incidentally all the sights are the same size and shape pretty much. it,s interesting that you mentioned a spg as i have the sight for an early 6pdr a/t gun which can also be used on the 25pdr so maybe your right it could possibly be used on the sexton i would assume, but as you know i'm no expert. eddy
  2. hi steve i'm not sure but i believe the king tiger from under the road in france is now at kevin wheatcroft's collection, well the back end is anyway and good luck to him i hope he can pull it off ,there's not alot to go at. and yes mate i would like churchill i don't care if i have to dig it out with my bare hands it would be worth it but i'd settle for a jagdpanzer if i had too:cool2: eddy
  3. nice one bazz, that sounds about right. cheers eddy
  4. there's one on milweb for 6.5k ,i think that's about as cheap as they come ,so i you're interested i'd be quick good luck eddy
  5. hi john thanks for taking the time to answer the cooling problems, looks like they made life a little bit harder than it needed to be. cheers eddy
  6. thought i'd better put up a shot of the firefly sight so that you can better understand what i'm getting at. why is this marked to 3600 yds and tha a/t gun has only a cross hair. eddy
  7. i think the tank is broken up,like steve said you'd be able to see the final drive and sprockets, but i'd bet a pound to a pinch of salt that the rest of the tank is in there as well,i suppose we'll just have to wait til the bridge is demolished to find out. eddy
  8. hi fella's just thought i'd post some pics of a 17 pdr gun sight it's a no.41 mk2s,there's something that i was hoping someone could clear up for me.Why does it just have a cross hair and no range markings ,i have the sight for a firefly which has the range markings upto 3600 yds and it's the same gun, seems strange to me but if anyone could enlighten me i'd be grateful. eddy
  9. hi rob i think i might be able to help you out with the ammo, can you post some pics of what you're after and give dimensions ie shell case width length any marks on the base and projectile dimensions eddy
  10. you're probably right steve but i seem to remember reading about an explosion somewhere, i can't recall where just that i had read it, but i agree with you that it's unlikely that the ammo wouldn't go up if it were destroyed by the crew. eddy
  11. thanks for the clarification steve,i've read about the stug recovery before ,it was a really difficult job which involved a river being diverted and a lot of digging about in the mud,but it was worth it ,they even found some of the crews weapons as well as ammunition. inside, the tank had suffered an internal explosion probably done by the crew to prevent it being captured there's a youtube link that makes for interesting viewing. eddy
  12. hi alistair as far as i know it's still there outside a town called glady, could you confirm if this is the same one ,no point going to glady if the tanks gone. cheers eddy
  13. i never worked on cet but was taught that they were designed with close cooperation with RE so i suppose you can blame them for some of the faults,i was also taught that the cooling system was badly designed and ran the wrong way ie hot water fed to the bottom of the rad and not the top ,not sure if they ever fixed it ,maybe someone could enlighten me ,it all sounds a bit negative but squaddies always moan about the kit they're issued no matter how good or bad it is. eddy
  14. hi fella's i came across this site last year and it's this find that rekindled my boyhood interest in afv's.It wasn't so much found as ignored by the locals since it was pushed into the stream to act as reinforcement for the road bridge when it was built in the late 40's ,personally i would have used 16mm rebar and kept the tank for myself but the poles chose to use it that way.it didn't become an issue until a few years back when someone cut the front armour off and took it to the local scrapper to be weighed in ,thankfully the police were called and the armour returned to the tank and there it still sits to the best of my knowledge.i plan on going to poland later this year to look for a sunken russian tank in a lake in northern poland ,while i'm there i'll go to the jagdpanzer and post some pics on the forum.i might even take my jack hammer.:cool2: http://www.odkrywca-online.pl/pokaz_watek.php?id=135430 all the best eddy
  15. thanks steve that makes for interesting reading ,that's a lot of kit.i doubt the russians would ever thank us, ungrateful buggars. eddy
  16. thanks west front that's an excellent site, very interesting i wonder what the germans thought of the matilda,i bet they liked the armour it afforded them. cheers eddy
  17. hi tony i'll be coming down in a l/r 130 sorry but no military vehicle yet,( but i'm working on it.) eddy
  18. just thought i'd put a link to the jagd panzer for those who are interested and yes it's still there. http://www.odkrywca-online.pl/forum_pics/picsforum16/obr16.jpg eddy
  19. will do,i'm not actually going to look for modern armour but for a ww2 russian tank sitting in a lake that i've heard about but don't tell the "jam rolls" they get touchy about that sort of thing,i'll also take a trip to the jagd panzer 4 under the road bridge so should be some goods pics to come. regards eddy
  20. thanks guys now for my next question, does anyone have a use for these parts,i don't suppose there's much demand for matilda bits but if there is and they need any help to buy them just let me know. eddy
  21. thanks adrian it's strange but you never see any pics of british armour in russian hands except for the valentines, anyone got any of the said pics to post. cheers eddy
  22. hi fella's how did it all go,was it a success or too much trouble to be viable ,i only ask because i'm thinking of doing something similar in poland this year, any help or info would be gratefully received. cheers eddy
