  1. Judging by the paint scheme, my guess is Greece. H.
  2. Hi Rick, your back axle differential would have had a white patch for the light to shine on. Regards, Hanno
  3. Great to see this piece of kit being restored, keep up the good work! Here's a pic of the sole surviving Canadian Military Pattern Ford truck with triple Polsten mounting: http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/802/imm011_12.jpg[/img] Regards, Hanno
  4. Most of the stuff is available, but at a price. The world's scrap yard and battle fields are scrounged these days. AFAIK, the collection is privately funded. Good to see that that sort of money is spent on Old Army Trucks, rather than on booze and women :-D H.
  5. Here's one advertised on MilWeb, but you have to quit dreaming, jack ...
  6. His name is Andreas Mehlhorn, you can contact him through his website at http://www.kettenkrad.de/index_e.htm
  7. Hi Dave, I can understand you want to swap the thirsty Hercules petrol engine for a diesel, and although it can be done I understand it is not a straight swap over. If it is the fuel bills you are concerned about, you might want to consider fitting an LPG fuel kit. This conversion is quite popular in the Netherlands and typically lowers the fuel bill by 50%. I've read about specialists offering LPG conversion kits in the UK, so you might want to contact some of them to see if this could be the way to go. Good luck, Hanno from Holland
  8. Dr. Ulrich von Pidoll's in his book "Kaefer: Ein Auto schreibt Geschichte" (Hamburg: Nikol, 1996, ISBN 3-930656-36-1) quotes a 1986 SAE technical paper. A number of SAE tests (incl. one on Army vehicles) proved that the wear on valve seats and valves with unleaded petrol is not noticeably higher (compared with leaded petrol) if the engine is operated under 3,000 rpm.
  9. It's a free website, so when traffic is high (lots of people having a look at the same time) it it temporarily unavailable. Just bookmark the page and check it out later - it's well worth a look! Hanno
  10. I notice the Jeep has lift rings on the front bumper - is it a Canadian contract Jeep? Hanno
  11. Looks great  Here's an alternative method: http://www.goatpark.force9.co.uk/tempsite/steerep.htm
  12. What about this picture from Wheels & Tracks magazine? http://bcoy1cpb.pacdat.net/MB_CDLV_505_in_MME_camo_in_UK_WT_1.jpg[/img] linked from: http://bcoy1cpb.pacdat.net/jeeps.htm
  13. Nothing wrong with British Standards, except for the fact Jeeps were painted in Lusterless Olive Drab, QMC spec 1-173, ES-474b or ORD ES-680 - see http://members.aol.com/brimiljeep/WebPages/JeepNamePage.html#G503ODJeepPaint Cheers, Hanno
  14. Marco, Read it on your favourite forum  http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5358&highlight=WWII+Jeep+Paint Hanno
  15. Great pictures and story. What an excellent family outing (reminds me very much of my pelgrimage to Eglinton Airfield). Get well soon, Jack! Hanno
  16. Nice?!?! I cannot think ofan uglier British vehicle than the C8 ... :-D Kidding aside, it's good to see it nicely restored and on the show scene! Hanno (owner of an ugly Canadian truck)
  17. Congrats on a job well done! As for some better stencils, why not mark it up as a British GMC? See http://www.hmvf.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=220.0 The No.7 lot in the CCKW-352 was post-war French practice, it was designed for use in the CCKW-353. Regards, Hanno
  18. Heard this morning Top Gear's Richard Hammond was seriously injured in a crash with a rocket powered car... :-o
  19. Tony, the pics I have seen of the Disney M2-4 did not show anything resembling a rocket launcher (wouldn't fit in with the happy familiy theme, would it?) As far as I know the rocket lancher was an item that was fitted into a standard GS body. Hanno
  20. Yeah sure... Please explain why it seems only Chevrolets are camouflaged. Maybe Fords can be driven standing proudly from the crowds?!? :-D Subject matter related: see more pics here. http://www.amv-lilliput.org/modelli/Docum/C8A_2/PIC/Image1.jpg[/img]
  21. Here's a better example (hey! it's a CMP!) http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/802/linkcmpmme.jpg[/img] And yes, it is correct to do it with a brush.... Regards, Hanno
  22. Great idea! Let's say I'll do some scouting in August first, shall we? Hanno
  23. Mid-August I will be spending a week with the family 40 km north of Dieppe in France. I was wondering, just in case the weather is bad ( ) where are the worthwile military museums in this region? Any info welcome, thanks! Hanno
  24. Hi Matt, As fas as we know, only the rear chassis of a truck with partially sectioned Trado conversion survives in the DAF museum in Eindhoven (don't know if it is actually on display). I'd be interested to hear what details you have come across, as as always there is never enough information about these sort of rare conversions. Hanno (your Dutch friend  ) P.S. also see http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/ and http://www.network54.com/Forum/330333/ and search for "Trado"
  25. At the last minute, I did managed to free up enough time to make it to Beltring this year! I'll be arriving Wednesday afternoon, and I'll be leaving Sunday afternoon. I'll be riding my unrestored pre-WW2 Dutch Army bike and I'll be staying in a "Canadian Brown" two-man tent near a Ford CMP 4x4 15-cwt and a Humber Armoured Car. Regards, Hanno from Holland
